Lived in Memphis over 30+ years. Finally ESCAPED a year ago. Whoever told you that if you stay in the good neighborhoods you’re safe is a liar or willfully ignorant. My brother was beaten within an inch of his life. Blood everywhere. Hog tied. Robbed. Had to replace all the carpet in the whole house. That was in Germantown. “Do you know someone who’s been victimized?”The better question is…do you know someone who hasn’t? I was personally assaulted on Beale back when you could still go. I won’t mention the women I know who have been sexually assaulted and have to live with that every day. A good citizen went to catch a man that hit a tourist in the head with a brick last year downtown. Well the good guy got stabbed to death inside an empty warehouse. Everyone in Sunday school who knew him was visibly upset. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve been burglarized. And that old man is spot on right. There’s a pecking order and you best know your place in it. And the only time you hear about victim women on national news is when the Orgill heiress gets raped, murdered, and thrown behind an abandoned house. I think 2 weeks ago a kid I sang in choir with got arrested bc he had a girl in a dog kennel inside his house raping, beating and choking her until she passed out. I could literally write a book about how depraved that place has become. As far as the new mayor, bless his heart. Do you think negotiating with what is essentially domestic terror organizations is the right thing to do? More of the same kind of thinking in local power. Good luck to you, Memphis.

Born and raised in the Memphis area. You can live a great life here, but you have to be careful. Tyler went to some of the roughest parts of the city, but the disturbing thing is how some of the youth are terrorizing citizens with armed robberies, carjackings, etc. We can talk all we want to about it being a poverty problem, but we've had poverty in these communities for decades. It's a poverty of morality and parental guidance (namely a lack of fathers). 2 things have to happen: 1. We need to quit pretending that enforcing the law doesn't help. It absolutely does. We have a revolving door at the county jail and juvenile facilities. 2. Folks in these communities have to start giving a damn about what their kids are up to.

For the people who say Memphis, Chicago, Detroit, etc, aren't that bad, of course the downtown area will be comparable to any major city (which is still dangerous honestly). The thing is, if you cannot visit half the city, use an ATM, or get gas after 12am, then you're city is not safe. That's where I draw the line.
@@Walter-Doddscomplete and utter bullshit lmfao. Every corner of Chicago today is bad. Chicago is terrible everywhere, point blank. And especially now, it is getting infested with homeless and/or migrants. Such a sad sight honestly, soon to be the next Seattle.
Nobody believes crime has dropped 6% across America. The way crime is reported has been changed and they made it such a pain that most people don't bother reporting petty crime anymore.
Normal people report crimes, because you can’t get an insurance payout without a police report. Crazy people, or people with something to hide, don’t report crime. On average , American crime rates have gone down. You might think there’s more crime because in the 1990s news reporters started to follow the “If it bleeds it leads” mantra and overreport crime. It’s not a conspiracy, it’s just reporting.
Let's just do what mexico does and just let the gangs run the country for us, then we don't have to invest in any programs. It starts with petty crime, and then before you know it all hell breaks loose
Careful with your grammar there. Most people believe it has dropped, since most people don't think that government statistics like that lie. But, it has only dropped in the past year. It's still way up from 3 years ago, which is what I'm assuming you are trying to talk about. You're accidentally misunderstanding the stats in a very similar way to the people who forget that stats existed more than a year ago (and that those stats are very important). Yea, everyone is too scared to speak the reality of the situation out of fear of being called whatever flavor of buzzwords they can find to fit the topic at hand when certain subjects are being discussed. People would rather dismiss the issues and refuse to have honest conversations. They’re content being in denial and ignoring the reality of the situation. They would rather take the easy route of letting their emotions take control so they can ignore it all and let the problems persist (and worsen) just so they can avoid certain topics they deem as a little too controversial so it’s best to just ignore reality. I live in the Nashville suburbs. I've studied Memphis from an anthropological, sociological, and economic perspective for years. It's derelict, destitute, decrepit, and depressing. The city's leaders are corrupt - looking to fatten their own pockets with extortion/bribery/racketeering. The schools are the absolute worst in Tennessee with so much fraud/incompetence. The amount of raw violence and fatalistic nihilism so pervasive among the city's majority population is the direct byproduct of the absence of fathers, glorification of gangster hoodlum culture, and proliferation of single mothers. Are all of them like that, no? But 90-95% of violent crime comes from one demographic and that's something no one can deny. Ever since MLK+Loeb 1968, the city has been headed downhill, rather precipitously. They have lost 5 seats in the state legislature since 1980 because to be blunt - most folks in their right mind dont want to live there. I can't count the number of escapees here because there are so many. I hope and pray it doesn't become the Southern version of Gary IN, but I'm not clutching my pearls.
As someone who lives in Memphis stay far away from here. If you're not trying to vacation. There's no reason for you to live here once I graduate from high school. I'm out of this place. Do not come here. FYI everything is the interview is true.
As a black woman watching this from another country. I am not from America, I have noticed the high rate of young black boys involved in crime. It's very disgraceful.

Nobody believes crime has dropped 6% across America. The way crime is reported has been changed and they made it such a pain that most people don't bother reporting petty crime anymore.
Facts
@TylerOliveira nice work with what you’re doing shedding light on rising matters especially in our country.
I would love to see some exposure on standard procedure for emergency/medical/ rehabilitations services when dealing with repeat bi-polar/mental illness people who have no support systems
In my opinion it’s a big part to the addition of the homeless epidemic spreading through the country
I have plenty to say on the matter from doing my part in my area of Maine. I lost the love of my life from this situation, and I have gone to all necessary locations and asked to meet with anyone who cares to hear out and standard procedure seems to be the underlying issue sending clearly intoxicated people, a danger to themselves, out into the cold to freeze and die and not own up to their end of the responsibility after the billing and becoming involved in the situation.
I would appreciate your help on this issue.
Keep up the good work brotha

The sad reality is the violence happens in black neighborhoods.
the country became GTA V at this point.
GTA games are a satirical take on the USA.

@@nautgamingnautgaming9949 so basically, gta is a game adaptation for the USA .
@@jbiliHacker it's a fictional adaptation meaning it isn't exactly what went down
But it is based off stories like this
They do dramatize it a bit to sell the game
But alot of former high end thieves n mobsters DO game development on the gta series to give it a realistic look of a real fictional mob boss or gang member
I'm real glad there were subtitles.

Violence in America isn't trending down. The requirements to report violent crime has been changed so it's under reported. 0:30 0:39
Plus like who actually reports anything? Half the time the victims don't. Maybe a witness that wasn't involved and doesn't have to fear for their life? Hard to find one of those.
