    I’ve only been watching basketball for a few years so maybe this isn’t true but I feel like the awards and the mvp especially are more difficult to hand out simply because the talent across the league has grown and now it feels like half the teams have a qualifying superstar for such an award, at least under the right circumstances

      that is a bit of recency bias, maybe not in your case because you became a watcher only years ago, but if you look the mvp races for 10-15 years ago, there is the same amount of high caliber superstars that could have won then compared to now. Its more of the definition of mvp has changed over the years, from who is the most important part of their team in all facets, to who has the best stats. I still believe that a decade ago, if the same situation happened where a player joins a team that was almost last in their conference and they turn into one of the best teams in the league and make the finals, that player would win mvp. But in 2020, Chris Paul was not even in the conversation for it.

    • @zafiruzoma6234

Válasszák ki a 2x8 csapatot pofára, úgy is csak azokkal foglalkoznak. Maga a rájátszás felesleges!!!! Nyugat és Kelet nyertesei mérkőzzenek meg egymással, és meg van a győztes!!!! A rájátszás a csókosok miatt van, hogy a középszer érvényesüljön. Így kell szarból várat építeni.

      It's really a combination of things, Chris Paul is the main thing. The Suns also just happen to have the most insane depth of any team right now. I think the reason why Booker isn’t in the top 5 is because all the voters know he ain’t the guy. Back when Lebron and Giannis were the top 2 in the MVP race most of the votes went to Giannis. People including Lebron had to realize there isn’t just one guy giving some points to one player and a lot to the other, it’s multiple voters putting in one vote

    For anyone who can't see past the BLATANT offensive bias now, I don't have words for them. Thing is, everything started off AWESOME, no more flop calls or bullshit 'contact', physical basketball was back boys! Then... some Ja Morant charge where he threw down the hammer afterwards was called. All these casual Twitter and Reddit NBA were offended, ESPN called it a horrible a call, did the refs RAELLY surely just deny one of 'the dunks of the year', with a charge call!? Yes, it was outside the restricted areal, yes his feet had been planted, his arms crossed, looking straight at the attacker for almost two seconds, BUT DID YOU SEE HIM BULLDOZE THAT DUDE, INCREDIBLE! It's like, in their minds, there's a rule in section 69, rule 420: 'Refer to Section 7, Rule 28: The rule referenced, penalizing charges as offensive fouls, is voided under the following circumstances: The official deduces that the 'poster' in question is capable of generating positive revenue for the NBA, player, and franchise respectively by going 'viral' via social media platforms, and/or will be featured on Sportscenter's Top 10. This is explicitly true for dank drunks from NBA superstars, who will be given the benefit of the doubt in all circumstances. If the 'poster' is delivered by LeBron James specifically, the charge becomes a blocking foul, and LeBron James will shoot a free throw in addition to his two points.'
    People LITERALLY think this way. You could have the most blatant offensive foul possible, but if it's done by a superstar, it's a no-call. I seriously remember a rookie was in his PED enhanced prime, can't remember the name, but he's legit good now, setting a textbook charge stance, right before getting bulldozed by LeBron. Poor kid didn't know about rule 420, it never existed in college or high school. But seriously, it disgusted me reading the Twitter and Reddit nerds who have never played competitive ball in their life giving you negative internet points and insulting you for your ignorance.
    Since that charge call, it seems the NBA officiating has become SUPER inconsistent. You never know if they are going to call it how they said they were and have an under 100 point game from two top offensives, or start calling shootings fouls for EVERYTHING and after a quarter both teams will be close to 50. We are NOT witnessing the greatest officiating in history, we are witnessing the most offense friendly officiating in history. The NBA has become a glorified all-star game, where some games devolve into 3pt, free throw, and dunk contests, because players literally aren't allowed to play defense. Just keep the NBA court, fire 90% of the NBA refs and dismantle the union, and bring over the best Euro refs and just start playing FIBA rules. The game will immediately become 10x better, and there shouldn't be a fucking refs union. The players union exists to make sure they, not the owners get paid, but if you aren't good enough to get a contract you are OUT. For refs though, it's not just there for them to get paid, but 100% guaranteed job security. You have to royally fuck up and the union abandon you to get fired. We know how that turned out for the NFL, but no one plays the NFL outside America. For basketball, there's TONS of amazing refs overseas, and they would LOVE a quadruple increase in pay raise.
    Let's start a hashtag, #NoMoreRefUnion and #BringOverFIBArefs. Do it after every bad play, especially if it's Scott Foster. If you have Twitter clout, start doing it.

      What you see from him now, everybody already knew what would happen other than Russ himself and his fans. Now it's hard for them to look in the mirror

I know he’s one of the best players in the world, but I don’t think u can teach being a leader. Now if they win this year my take on him not leading will be shit, but until then idk. Also being a leader doesn’t mean the best player on the team.

    The NBA definitely felt weird after the 2015-2016 season. Stats are inflated compared back in the early 2010s (maybe because of players shooting more 3s and more fast paced games i guess). Superstars like harden, westbrook, kyrie etc. changes teams every season what it felt like. Awards dont really make sense just like you said in the video, it felt like they change or at least consider other more factors in awarding players. Players miss a lot of games due to injury or any valid reasons and so on and so forth. After the likes of kobe, duncan and kg retired it definitely was an end of an era with this new type of culture and changes going on in the NBA. Personally ive kinda miss the old NBA but it is what it is you know. At the end of the day I still enjoy a good basketball game.

    I’ll tell you exactly why the MVP race feels different this year and why Book isn’t in the conversation, the toll of the short breaks between seasons these past few years has really shown itself this season. The suns are doing all of that in a conference where MANY max players have missed a significant amount of time like PG13, Kawhi, AD, Jamal Murray, MPJ, Dame, Zion, Klay, Draymond and that’s just the West. If you look at the difference between who’s at the top of the MVP voting and book, this year in particular it’s been more about who is having the biggest individual impact on their team as opposed to who’s the best player on the best team. Embiid has had to deal with the Ben Simmons drama and lead his team to success, Jokic is basically playing with the bench as his starters and the only reason they’re not a lottery team, Giannis and the Bucks got off to a rough start and he’s battled back to have them in contention, etc. It’s really that simple, the award this year more than any year is REALLY an individual award.

    The MVP criteria has always been consistent and I'm sick of people acting like it isn't. The MVP of the league ever since the merger has always been given to the player with the best combination of win totals and amazing individual stats, the ONLY exception being Westbrook in 2017. If we wanted to stay consistent with that, then the MVP should either go to Embiid or Giannis since Jokic doesn't have the necessary win totals and D Book has good individual numbers but not eye popping ones. Comparing D Book's MVP case this season to Shaq in 2000 was really fucking dumb to do, because Shaq averaged 30-14-4 with 3 blocks on 57% shooting and was by a country mile seen as the best player in the league that year.

    • @Anton1oSainz
      @Anton1oSainz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Jokic's the MVP in my eyes and it's not even close, so there should be another exception to the "criteria". He's the Nuggets whole offense and is doing things at his position we didn't know were even possible to achieve.
      Jokic is leading the league in total rebounds, defensive rebounds, PER, win shares, offensive win shares, win shares per 48, bpm, offensive/defensive bpm and vorp, and those are not misleading stats like guys with 9 ppg leading the offensive rating category, those are legit.
      And on top of that he's 2nd in fgs while being 12th in attemps, 2nd in defensive win shares, 2nd in rpg, has the same defensive rating as Embiid, and is like the "real" true shooting pct leader since all the guys above him doesn't even come close to attempt a 3pointer.
      The only things both Giannis and Embiid lead or come close to lead? Ppg and free throws, and you know what's funny? The Joker would lead the league in those categories too if he would get the calls he deserves, because he's technically averaging half the attempts of those 2 and you can't tell me with a straight face that he doesn't get fouled at least 85% as much. And who knows, maybe with more fta the Nuggets would have a couple of more wins and you wouldn't disqualify him for their seeding (;

    • @Moersfreak
      @Moersfreak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I agree with you completely, with one caveat. The Nuggets have won three games less than the Sixers and Bucks. Are those three games really relevant enough to eliminate Jokic from MVP contention? The Nuggets are only this low in the standings because the western conference is, as most years, more competitive than the eastern conference. The eastern top seed Miami would be fourth in west.
