"We aim to make an Electric Ladyland every time we record." The original lineup of Spiritualized (Jason Pierce, Mark Refoy, Kate Radley, Will Carruthers, Jonny Mattock) created an Electric Ladyland for the 1990s with Lazer Guided Melodies. (So did Nick McCabe, Richard Ashcroft, Simon Jones, Peter Salisbury of Verve with Storm in Heaven.)
My man! I dig it! Those 2 albums are still (in my mind) indescribably way past fantastic! Saw them both back in those days, man... the 90s are where it's at!
Sorry, I love Storm In Heaven, but if you look at the amazing live iterations of the songs on Lazer, seems Jason’s in a different league…
“Sitting around toasting muffins…” to a guy that has made some of the most radical music of the time. No wonder u see old videos of musicians just clowning these ridiculous questions. I see someone at the record company saying, “ now come on, you’ve got to do this, it’ll help us sell some records, get more people at your shows…

I hope you're joking. This used to be a segment on MTV mostly videos of more alternative type music with snippets of interview spliced in between.
A nice way for Jason to talk about Jon Mattock and Mark Refoy. But then, he has a history of treating former bandmates like shit: Will Carruthers, Sonic, Sean Cook....
The guy was so strung-out during the recording of Pure Phase that Jon and Mark left the band.

Yeah I just finished reading Will Carruthers Book & the very few times Spaceman is mentioned I did not like what I read, especially when he said to them all “it’s not gonna be a S3 Band, everybody gets the same we all have input etc, then it’s I DONT TRUST Mark Refoy/Jon Mattock I think they should be on a Wage but youll be ok Will but that changed too, really pissed at that, JP the Dictator.
It must be a very hard living cos most have been on later SPRTLZD lps. But yeah I’d always thought there’s something not right here cos of the constant Replacement of Musicians. Big shame!!! ✌️
Daniel Field idk about treating Sonic bad according to Will Carruthers he took the huff with Kate joining the Group. I love Sonic but he’d his Gear JP had Radley, tbh the 2 sounded the same, Sonic was basically in charge of Sound “KISS(keep it simple stupid)”telling the others what he wanted n where n 1/2 chords no more.
Dunno if JP was like that he’s hardly mentioned but great fucking band though !! ✌️

Jason seems to perk up when the interviewer begins a question by referring to Brian Wilson, then looks disappointed as the question concludes idiotically.
Where the other 114 minutes of this interview ?
I love everything that J spaceman has made, but he's never paid his bandmates properly.. Here he admits that he wanted people that would commit their own imput. But after 'ladies...' the engine of the band were forsed to leave him after they got tierd of not getting paid properly for their input. When Sean Cook (epic bassist) was sacked because he raised questions about the fact that he realised no royalties were ever gunna come to him and the three core members including Damon Reese (mentioned here) walked. Together they started the cult band Lupine Howl (worth checking out) but still had to convince the dole office that although they were on the front cover of N. M. E. they were skint because of this man.. In an interview Sean gave after (leaving) he said they were all unaware of the release of the new live album and would see no profits, because they were STILL only paid as session musicians.. Dark shit.. And shameful on Jason... Its always left a hollow taste.. Especially when he admits in interviews like this how much his bandmates made inputs to the burgeoning sound that would make his millions...

Katzenfreundin recording the new lp which for the 3rd year in a row is out this year & in JP’s words it’s the equal or better than L&GWAFIS but haven’t they all been, but to me the last great SPRTLZD LP was “Amazing Grace” ✌️
