ORECK ORBITER - HOW WELL DOES IT REALLY CLEAN CARPET?

  • I decided to test how well the Oreck Orbiter would clean carpets compared to the Challenger OP. This was the first time that I used it as a stand alone cleaner since I primarily use it to pre-scrub heavily soiled carpets prior to HWE (steam cleaning) and to scrub tile and grout.

    I have seen others pre soak the pads before using them. Not sure why that is maybe it glides easier on carpets or easier to wash the soil off easier. What are your thoughts on this.

    • @AllAmericanMack
      @AllAmericanMack  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've heard pros and cons for doing it both ways so I did a lot of testing to see what works better for me. My conclusion is that I prefer to start off with a damp pad. Even with laying down a good layer of prespray, I don't think there's enough moisture without a damp/wet pad. Plus, when I used a dry pad, it collects *A LOT* of fuzzies from the carpet which I believe is due to the pad not being wet enough and "pulling" on the fibers which could lead to damge like tip blooming. They are also a major pain to try to remove them all. I also tried just spraying the pad with some prespray but I don't feel that's enough either so it's only wet pads for me now.

      I’ve done hwe for 20 plus years,( portable) I’m going to start VLM this month. I will be using a 175 to start. ( I do have an Oreck orbiter) I have heard that using a 175 is slower. What are your thoughts?

    • @AllAmericanMack
      @AllAmericanMack  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm guessing your response was directed at Bill but I'll throw in my 2 cents also. I've never used a 175 so I don't have any experience with them but the reason I chose an OP over a 175 is I believe it cleans faster. OP's are spinning just like a 175 but they are also oscillating so they are scrubbing the fiber in every direction, a 175 can't do that without manually manipulating the machine in every direction. I'm not saying a 175 can't do a good job, but I firmly believe a wheels up machine like the Challenger cleans better and faster. I might be willing to say a 175 does clean faster than an a wheels down OP because of all the front and back nonsense you have to do which is again, why I love a wheels up machine like the Challenger. It can easily go in any direction I want with almost no effort.

      BTW, I'm now officially VLM only after many years of HWE and a few years of offering both. I kept steam cleaning for customers that just insisted on seeing me use the hoses and wand and for tile and grout. But, VLM has consistently produced amazing results, even on jobs where HWE struggled.

    • @AllAmericanMack
      @AllAmericanMack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a commercial model that's about 16 years old. I've mostly used it for pre-scrubbing either tile & grout or trashed carpet before steam cleaning but it's held up great. I'm not sure if the newer models are as durable as the old ones though.

      @AllAmericanMack  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can buy it directly from Challenger at challengerop.com but I would *HIGHLY* recommend buying it through Corey Thibodeaux who is a Challenger dealer. You won't pay any extra going through him but he will help you get setup and can answer any questions you have, even more than the company itself and was a lot of help when I bought mine. His number is 512-350-1129.

    I bought the oreck, and with bonet pads, it vibrates like crazy. Any ideas? Why would be the reason?

    • @AllAmericanMack
      @AllAmericanMack  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only time I've gotten any bad vibration is when using cotton pads on commercial carpet and sometimes just a little vibration with cotton pads on berber or other low level carpet. I use microfiber pads on commercial and on berber I'll switch to microfiber if it's too bad. I prefer to use cotton when I can because it's so aggressive and I like the way it cleans but that same aggressiveness is what causes the machine to dance and vibrate. What pads were you using? The Oreck pads? And what kind of carpet was it?

    • @NotTooExtreme
      @NotTooExtreme ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AllAmericanMack So I have used the black oreck brush and there was some vibration pushing forward but it was smooth pulling back on a low pile carpet, however the green brush worked smoothly. I have tried the cotton pad on the same carpet and it really was hard to control it extreme vibration, yes it very aggressive. I have also tried a white and a green scrubbing pads and both were vibrating like crazy. So all I can use comfortably is the oreck green brush for carpet and tiles.

    How many oz/gallon did you use for the prespray?

    • @AllAmericanMack
      @AllAmericanMack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are referring to the concentrate that I make, most jobs including this one I use 4oz per gallon and I'll go to 6 oz per gallon for the nastier places. If you are talking about how many ounces straight out of a gallon of Purely Green 25, it would be around 1.3 ounces per gallon.

    Which one do you find yourself using more as of today

    • @AllAmericanMack
      @AllAmericanMack  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm using the Oreck more *but* it's only because I'm doing very little VLM. I'll bring in the Orbiter when I need to prescrub carpets or tile and grout. VLM is a hard sell here to begin with so that's why I'm not doing much of it, plus I'm getting past Oxy Fresh customers who were not happy with their process and want "steam" so it's just easier to do HWE most of the time. I still like the Challenger for residential though and if I were doing more VLM it would get used more.

    I would lose that giant glider. If you must use a glider, I would use a cd. I never use them…maybe it’s the kind of pad you use if you do need one. I scrub with a microthin and follow with microfiber.

    • @AllAmericanMack
      @AllAmericanMack  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ironically enough, I did actually lose it by leaving it at a customers house. I do use cd gliders most of the time though but occasionally there are carpets that cause me to have to fight the machine and the larger glider came in handy for that. My preferred pad for residential is 100% cotton so I find using a glider makes the machine considerably easier to maneuver. I don't mind the cd gliders but I break them pretty regularly so I need to order some of the new 6" Challenger ones.

    the intent seem reasonable and honest, but the execution appears not well executed..
    this pad cleaning process on carpet doesn't make sense. the pad will only hold so much dirt. after that, the dirty pad is simply going over the same dirty carpet and NOT pickup more dirt as intended. if the operator doesn't clean the pad after saturation, then what's the point of comparing two machines. either will do the job. the weak link here is the dirty pad.
    The customer needs the best return on their money. So find a better solution to actually cleaning the carpet vs demonstration two machines. Using a wet vac system may prove better.
    BTW, put plastic bags over those sneakers so as NOT to track outside dirt into the house.
