Here was my perspective watching this movie as a 6 year old. Spiderman was one of the very first superheroes I was introduced to as a kid and I legitimately thought he was invincible. All of the sudden, this terrifying and devilish looking goblin comes in and gives Spiderman a good ass whooping throughout the movie. That was terrifying through a 6 year old's perspective and that's what made Goblin an amazing villain to me.

Even younger, back when I was a fetus inside my mother about 36 weeks in, I could feel my mother's fear towards the green goblin. That was terrifying through a 36 weeks old fetus perspective and that's what made the Goblin an amazing villain to me.

I loved Goblin's introduction in this scene, the fact none of the civilians knew what the goblin's intentions were and thought he was there to show off on his glider and then his attack, a terrifying and menacing way to introduce a villain!
What’s even more chilling is how far away the goblin was and peters spider sense went off showing how much of a danger the goblin was. Like the goblin was blocks NYC blocks away not even in sight yet.

I love how Sam Raimi understood the campiness of the early Spiderman comics and translated it perfectly to the big screen while still doing something completely new and fresh to the superhero movie universe.
I wish the MCU was under Raimi instead of whoever filmmakers are under Fox and Disney.
I would love to see what he would do with the other Marvel Super Heroes.
A cinematic genius he didn’t get there by accident he fought his way into getting the movie off james cameroon who would’ve ruined Spiderman and he used his passion to make 3 epic movies that’ll be remembered for generations

Another thing that messed up the sequels: The redemption and demise of Doc Ock (Alfredo Molina), because it's way too soon for that.
Ock could've returned in Spider-Man 3 breaking out of prison to form a SINISTER SIX to recruit New Goblin (James Franco), Vulture (John Malkovich), Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Kraven (Jemaine Clement), and Electro (Sam Raimi never revealed his casting candidate for this villain).

This is such an amazingly campy scene.
The acting of the kid, the rough CGI, the fact he can take a chunk out of his glider that does just make the goblin fly away somehow, MJ not being able to move away from danger in minutes, Harry getting knocked out and American cops not even trying to shoot someone who committed murder in front of their eyes.
If an attack on a festival like this really happened in NYC post-9/11, the FBI would be on the Green Goblin pretty quickly. I don't imagine it would be hard to trace the Goblin weapons back to Oscorp and Norman.
not to mention the Goblin grenade vaporizing those people while Harry and Mary Jane, just feet away, are perfectly fine
The modern day movies still feel pretty campy and the cgi surprisingly still holds up. That’s my opinion though

Not gonna lie, I always loved Mary Jane's dress in this scene. The print, the folds, and the color really bring out the best in her. I know, she is a damsel in distress, but I still liked her as a character as well because I related to her struggles in earning her own way in life, and building close relationships. Even when she made mistakes in her relationships, she taught me to always be honest about how I feel about my life and what is/isn't working in it.
A lot of people hate Mary Jane in the original trilogy because, she's screams a lot, is literally a damsel in distress, cheats on Peter and fans prefer Gwen Stacy and Michelle they're not damsels in distress.

I've always loved Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson too. I actually liked how nuanced she was as a character and that she had her own frustrations in making it on her own, while still being emotionally vulnerable and comfortable in her feminity.

@@SlasherIncorporated And Tom Holland's character development at the end of Homecoming was completely thrown out. In both sequels he was made to be a stupid kid again, and was the cause of his own problems (again).
Each movie was exactly the same, and leaned too hard into the "Iron Man Jr." plots. It took a nostalgia crossover just to make it less stale. MCU's spider-kid is simply not a good character, but instead just cheap fanservice for Marvel lovers looking for any semblance of the Sony and FOX characters. It took 4 films, a memory wipe, and the final cliffhanger just to set him up as the Spider-man he should have been.

Man I go to school for filming and etc and I will tell you that it takes alot of work to make a scene look good and it's just added work trying to prevent being seen and sometimes heard behind the camera

I love how he swings onto the rooftop garden all casually and friendly like a real superhero would. Then does that front flip off the balcony. Love that scene

This one of the best scenes in spiderman, the build up, the mixed feelings about his identity w spiderman, his relationship w peter and mj, while you slowly gathering where norman is and why he wants to ruin the celebration
Boy, it was special seeing Green Goblin as a kid when this movie released. How into this character younger me was at the time, I'm so glad I'll get to experience this character again.
I always crack up when he punches Spidey into the light pole that clearly kills the random guy behind him!

This was almost my favorite scene as a kid spidey was killing it after battling with green goblin in order to save Mary Jane and everyone else it was phenomenal back then and I still loved it now,Tobey always brings inspiration to our hearts....he's badass, he's a warrior and he's powerful I respect him for that.
This film does a GREAT job at showcasing minimal life experience clashing with an abundance of life experience.
Peter was very naive in Spider-Man 2002.
He let Jameson lie about him. He allowed MJ to be 'stolen' by multiple guys, and he never let his good nature waver (until 3, of course)... that's what makes him a hero. When everything goes awry and nobody is on his side, he still chooses to do the right thing, which was the theme of the trilogy as a whole.
Norman, on the other hand... spent his entire life working. Earned a PhD, started his own company ("I-I STARTED this company..."), and made it successful enough to secure US military contracts for weapons/checmical manufacture. Hell of a success story. And then that's all ripped away when his rival offered to buy out the company, and the board is only obligated to be 'loyal' to the shareholders, not the CEO. He didn't own 51% of the shares of his company, so they were able to oust him.
His solution? Kill them in the worst of ways, and make it a very widely viewed spectacle.
That speaks volumes about HIS character, and why he's a villain. He can't shake things off even if they're intentional slights against him, he immediately retaliates and in a disproportional way.
There is an argument that he was put under immense pressure seeing as Slocum threatened to cut governmental funding from Oscorp and give it to Quest, and there's no denying that guy was corrupt, he even said himself that he wanted to put Norman 'out of business', so that's a shitty viewpoint to have, where your job functions are being fueled by your disdain for somebody.
Norman killing Slocum and blowing up Quest's test facility is ultimately what 'ruined him', seeing as Quest retaliated by buying his company out from under him (they didn't know he was the one who attacked them, but it's not a far fetched theory that some assumptions were made seeing as a 'super soldier' on a glider showed up to their test site, and that's precisely what Oscorp had been publicly working on. One thing I did find humorous in a very dark way was how right after Norman blew up Quest's testing facility, when Peter returns to he and Harry's apartment, Norman is there doing a weekly living-space inspection, and he's on the phone w/ what sounds like military officials, because he says, "Yes! 5 new contracts, it'll be great. (Joyful laughter)". He's laughing about securing more military contracts because he literally killed his competition
This is one of my favorite parts in this movie. Cant wait to see GG again in NWH
