More dad's should include thier kids and teach them the skills they have. I love working on stuff with my dad and I'm 28 lol don't let anyone tell you your a bad parent for having your kids in the shop with you. Thanks for the great video.
Hands down...by far the best video build I have seen. No annoying music and chattering about woulda, coulda, shouldas. Great seeing something built from scratch. Love it when my kids hangout with me in the garage as yours do. Great job and thanks for sharing. If I only had the knowledge & tools you have the make something like you did.
I m in the middle of building one of these right now, seeing your boy in the background so much brought a smile to my face. I have of 1 year old boy and he too is constantly out in the garage watching and trying to help! all day long when hes in the house, he is bring his shoes to his mom and wanting to go outside with dad and work... so fun. thanks for sharing I love the ideas and designs you have!
Love watching this kind of things. Nice build by a single person and not a commercial video from some outfit trying to push business. Great video from the start to the Finnish of the build.
I can't stop watching. You are a Genius and a Master Craftsman! There's just one thing I hate! That I don't own it! Much RESPECT my friend. I love that your kids (I'm guessing) were part of the build. Freakin' WOW!
Why i never met a friend like you, sucks to grow up in the hood Paterson NJ, cause i’m like a kid watching this saying if god had given me 25% of that gift, amazing
Wow that is truly impressive. I bet you could sell these as fast as you can make these. Overlanding is on fire right now and you have something special that no one else has. Well almost no one.
mixflip thanks man. I looked at the Teton X website last night and it looks like they are planning on a full pop top like mine as opposed to the hinges version they had at they show. If they would entertain the idea of bunk beds like I did then I think they would have a whole new market!
I have my kid with me and I make sure he always wears ear protection when I use any machinery. I suffer from tinnitus and I hope he never will. nice job. I will be building something similar soon. Thanks for the ideas. JD
God damn dude, you are a talented builder. If there were plans you worked from, you would never know it. It looked like the only helpers were the "Little ones". Keep broadcasting!!
Thanks! It's my design, and I am currently making plans. It amazing how much it helps to have even a set of small hands to hold on to something every now and then!
Very interested in the final weight. Plywood seemed kinda thick for this application but you did cut a ton of holes in it so it's probably not as bad as it seems.
Great job! Plus I really loved the fact that you let your kids be around you as you build it and didn't make them leave as they played their game or tried to help or just watch what you were doing.. My Dad was like that with me even though I asked him many of questions. Great job in both areas😇😇God bless you and your family! 🙏
I want to say thank you for the parts list. Im about to start building an offroad camper and the windows and door was one of the items I couldn't decide on. great job, keep up the good work.
Wild Man Jones it’s been holding up great. On each of the interior corners I put a 1x1 screwed and glued into the plywood in both directions, I also wrapped the fiberglass around the corners to add strength. It has held up great, I took it on a 19 day, 4000+ mile trip off-roading across Colorado, Utah, South Dakota, Wyoming and more!
I just finished a tear drop but now I am looking at building something different like yours which I like, a little more beefy and wider. Way to go and a great Dad
My name is warren brumfield owner operater of custom tiny campers in lucasville ohio if your interested in having an off road tiny camper built for you you can give me a call at 740 821 5445 we can start on your off road tiny camper today
Bud, you are my hero... :) Job well down, truly honest thumbs up!!! Watched the whole thing in one strike... Seeing that you know how to weld obviously, any thoughts on making it aluminum frame/exterior cover due to weight reasons? But I'm guessing this ply version isnt too heavy either? Thanks for sharing...
BudNixon I considered aluminum frame and skin for the body, but would still do steel for the trailer frame. The plywood body weighs under 500lbs, but I'm sure aluminum would be lighter. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
the interior build and a one year walkaround video are now on my channel. You can get to them both form my website www.shawneehillsworkshop.com/offroad-overland-camper
Nice build. The only suggestion I would make is wear a mask when cutting plywoof/insulation board, spraying, spreading epoxy, working with fiberglass in general.. The chemicals and fine particulates will build up in your lungs over time resulting in nasty stuff in 20 or 30 years.
I've made six plans and the one I am building is an aluminum skin on aluminum frame. Welded seams, watertight, lighter, stronger and cheaper than wood. I just could not source the right materials in the part of Canada where I live. Your saw skills are top notch fella!
Awesome video. I'm looking at building one this year on a 5x10 trailer. The one thing I want to add in mine is a side wall slide out so our kids have sleeping space.
Gary Klassen wait until you see the next video with the pop up. It may give you some ideas. Mine has a queen bed and one bed that is 30” wide and another that is around 48” wide if I remember correct
Effin Brilliant M8! Take a bow for superlative conception, execution, and completion.I wouldn't be suprised if ur architectural/woodworking/ metalsmithing, engineers heart, sprayed the exterior with Line-X.What a guy! Happy Trails to u , and your children, and the Mrs.Be safe always, phil
nice work , i am thinking about doing something like this as well , for my fishing trips . for the people that disliked this video , i bet they can´t even put up a shelf let alone build something this cool . great jobb
I am currently finishing the trailer and have several videos that will be coming out soon. For now you can watch the trailer top popping up and a sneak peak of the inside on Revere Overland's video here th-cam.com/video/4g9v-YRg7wY/w-d-xo.htmlm2s

I am glad you asked. I charge for the plans because I put many hours into making 58 pages worth of detailed plans, laying it out step by step, this didn't just take hours, it took days. I gave you two free build videos and a free parts list which also took many days to put together. You could build the camper from just that, but with my plans it will take out a lot of the headache away and save a lot of time researching. I am not forcing anyone one to buy them, although many already have, several have even bought the gold pack! Look down through the comments at all the people asking for plans. I am curious though, would you want to do all that work and then give it away for free?
Thanks for the information, I do not see badly the sale of plans, personally I will not buy them since I have my own design exposed on facebook as a photo album, but you are absolutely right, they are not design hours, if not days, and thousands of changes that arise as the project evolves.
@jrg10332 Why not just keep those comments to yourself? What good did they serve? Great video! Mama used to tell us as kids if you cant say anything nice then dont say anything at all. Still holds true today.
@Cody Bowman thank god for you tube and the will to do better than loser parents.... you're already a million times better because you have the motivation not be like them. Goodluck.
This is the first one I've seen built out over the fenders - most stay inside of them. I would love the extra space but wonder how that holds up over time. I will check your other video! Thanks for this!
Awesome job, and not just the craftsmanship and quality but the aggressive style as well! All that capability yet you have enough class to sport a classic, aggressive CHEROKEE! nice...
stevet47 I'm glad you noticed the biscuit jointer, that was a first for me as well, I was just being lazy and didn't want to set my slot cutter up in my router. Now that I've done it I can't believe I never thought of it before!

thank you so much!
You sir are a true craftsman! And a cool dad!
There is no camper out there built as well as you built this one. As a builder I’m impressed!
Soooooo impressed with the amount of talent you have, and the fact that you include your children in this.... they will remember that moment forever.
I m in the middle of building one of these right now, seeing your boy in the background so much brought a smile to my face. Impressive build! There are advantages to having a full shop and the skills to utilize all of the tools and supplies in it. Well done! 😎
Jack of all trades, carpenter and metal fabrication. nice!!
This is great! Not just the camper but building it with the kids there.
This is the real superman.
I hope the boys grow up
With the hands like these.
Appreciate from Thailand.
This is exactly what I've been searching for. Thank You for making the plans available and putting these videos online.
Practically it was a One-man show with skillful & fine workmanship..... well done......
I would’ve been completely happy with the trailer but then you make it into a dang pop top too....mind blown! Nicely done sir
Love watching this kind of things. Nice build by a single person and not a commercial video from some outfit trying to push business.
Great video from the start to the Finnish of the build.
crusher j thanks, I appreciate it!
SHAWИEE HILLS The process I am not sure about was when you were laminating that fabric on. What was that and for what?
crusher j it was fiberglass. I added it for strength and waterproofing
SHAWИEE HILLS OK thanks I was pretty sure that was fiberglass but wasn't 100%. Thanks for the response. Got a new subscriber.
Incredible brother. I’m not even qualified to clean up after you...great work.
I can't stop watching. You are a Genius and a Master Craftsman! There's just one thing I hate! That I don't own it! Much RESPECT my friend. I love that your kids (I'm guessing) were part of the build. Freakin' WOW!
You sir are a great craftsman! I too just built my own camp trailer, but your's is much much nicer.
Kellyn Davidson thank you so much. It really does mean a lot!
My daughter and I just watched this entire video in aw. This is definitely the most impressive thing I have seen recently. Awesome job!
wow, thank you so much!
Beautiful clean work and design. What a beautiful record and resource you've made. Thank you so much, and you are very talented.
If I wasn't impressed before you nailed it when you brought the frame under the box. Very well done.
Wow this is well built. Quality. Very nice work.
Glad to see your son watching and learning. Great Work!
I love that he is interested. It is amazing how much a child absorbs just watching!
You are a Legacy. You must be tripping over those curious kids like a cold extension cord. Your woman must be proud, Thanks.
Why i never met a friend like you, sucks to grow up in the hood Paterson NJ, cause i’m like a kid watching this saying if god had given me 25% of that gift, amazing

So awesome to include your son on this build 👍
Nicely done. Great design. Doesn't look like a janky wood crate on a harbor freight trailer.
Hey that's a nice trailer. Good thing your kids were able to help. Your so blessed.
Ken Kozma I couldn’t have done it without them!
Keep your kids when they are small with you in your shop and the World will be the better place...
I couldn’t agree more!!!
I have my kid with me and I make sure he always wears ear protection when I use any machinery. I suffer from tinnitus and I hope he never will. nice job. I will be building something similar soon. Thanks for the ideas. JD
@@shaweehillsworkshop4226 just try not mistaking them for a 2x4 and sending them through the tablesaw :z
Real men build their own trailer! Looks awesome!!
That's the most unusual use of a biscuit joiner I've ever seen. Awesome -- neat trick!
Thank you, it worked really well.
I agree... definitely caught my eye...
This has really sparked (again) my interest in building a off road camper.
I have plans available on my website if your interest is really sparked www.shawneehillsworkshop.com/offroad-overland-camper

Awesome. Just awesome!! When I saw you loose tongue and glue the ply together I knew I had to watch the whole video.
Very interested in the final weight. Plywood seemed kinda thick for this application but you did cut a ton of holes in it so it's probably not as bad as it seems.
Parallel I don't know the final weight as it's not finished yet, but the total weight of the plywood is around 350lbs
Jack of all trades. Awesome work .looks bad ass
Wow.. you're talented man..
Love from Indonesia
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words!
Great job! Plus I really loved the fact that you let your kids be around you as you build it and didn't make them leave as they played their game or tried to help or just watch what you were doing.. Awesome trailer. I love the XJ too!
Thanks man! I love my XJ!
J
Excuse my language but this is bad freaking ass man. Definitely pays off having the skills and shop space/tools
Thank you, man! Great job! Your video is inspiring for building!! )))
This is what has made TH-cam great 👍
Obrigado por postar esse vídeo, Agora tenho mais motivos para sonhar! Obrigado
I firstly thought that wood was not the best material for this build, but seeing the way you used, is just fantastic! Love the video!
Miguel duran lopez thanks for watching. I agree that unless you are fiberglassing wood probably would not be the best option.
SHAWИEE HILLS waiting to see the interior!
Looks awesome, good job 😎 my respect!
Love that your kids took a great interest in what you were building. Sign of an awesome Dad.......nice video
morgan roberts sr thank you so much for the kind words. That means more to me than any compliment about the project itself. Thank you very much.
Excellent build and video

I've never heard of a track saw, but you've given me inspiration for using my 20 year old saw. Have an upvote.
Great job, mate, Cheers!
One man; multiple skills. Bravo!
Great video
Cool off-road camper
SCHY MARK thanks man, I appreciate it!
Dadgum sir. That is something to be proud of. Nice freaking job.
thanks!
Interesting build, I am curious, how has it "held up" off roading, without a skeleton frame?
Wild Man Jones it’s been holding up great. On each of the interior corners I put a 1x1 screwed and glued into the plywood in both directions, I also wrapped the fiberglass around the corners to add strength. It has held up great, I took it on a 19 day, 4000+ mile trip off-roading across Colorado, Utah, South Dakota, Wyoming and more!

Great movie about craftmanship. I wish there were many more like these too see. Great trailer also!
Extremely satisfying to watch it come together, good build
Building a camper has been one of my lifelong dreams. That s amazing man.
Thanks for the comment! No time like the present ;o)
Still can't believe he built this whole camper alone in just under 12 minutes! Way to go bud

You sir, are a true master craftsman.
Just built me one and now I will have go burn it so I can build one like yours. Lol. Mine works for now. Good job brother.
I just saw a man use a biscuit in a way I never even thought about. This opens up so many possibilities.
Clayton Malcom I’m glad you caught that. It was one of my proudest moments and almost no one even realizes it
Thought the same thing - Never seen one used like that.
this is by far my favorite build video! As a woodworker , i have a remarkably similar approach to building. Great work! I am further inspired.
Thanks 👍
Great job..I hope you and your family is bless with this
Trish King thank you!
SHAWИEE HILLS you are so very welcome hun
Very impressive!! I didn't make the winter ETO ride but would love to check this out sometime
I will have it on the winter ETO trip this year!
I’ve never seen a biscuit jointer used to cut splines like that, brilliant!
Great build!

So proud of this persons ability. Simply amazing . Great job, thank you for sharing.
I love the help from the kids.
Mad skills there! Awesome project and video!
Jeff Swal thank you very much!
Nice job. Good luck cleaning the fiberglass in your workshop.
It was a few years ago now and I’m pretty sure there is still fiberglass in the nooks and crannies
Incredible. Such skill and talents. Thanks for sharing
