Maurice said In an interview that after Andy died....and they went back to their studio to record....he was playing notes on the keyboard and Robin and Barry and himself just started crying and they couldn't record for a while....but they really wanted to do this song for Andy because he was their brother and they loved him and they missed him. He was going to join them. Maurice said he called to wish Andy a happy 30th birthday and he was staying with Robin at his house and Robin told him he can't come to the phone...because he had gotten high. Maurice said he was very mad about that because he had been doing so well and everyone was trying to help him. Robin said people kept saying he needs tough love and that's what he tried to do with Andy....it was not what he wanted to do. Barry was disappointed that Andy had undone all he had worked so hard for over the year. When Andy passed away they all said that was guilt and hurt they had to live with.
Robin also said some people need to feel and be told they're loved more than others to feel good about themselves. Barry said in an interview after Robin died....,"I would give up all the music and the songs and the fame just to have my brothers back here with me again. The quarrels we had that seemed so important at the time mean nothing. I have to keep going to honor our dream as kids and to keep their memory and presence alive ." ..Robin once said in an interview " If you think someone has done something good....tell them..if you love someone....tell them because that could make all the difference in their life.... don't take anyone you are friends with or family or a relationship you're in for granted because you will regret it Don't be afraid to show how you feel.'". They said after they wrote this song....they had to do it several times to get through it without crying.
    Thanks Chad for your reaction..
Sorry this comment is so long.

@@cynthiadaves1933 - Andy was living in a cottage on Rob's estate so he felt partly responsible but should not have. He tried to keep him in check but simply couldn't. If someone is determined and addicted enough nobody can stop them. They said for all of his cheerful demeanor Andy was insecure and terrified he would fail his brothers. What a burden to try to live up to them.

Maurice mentioned that but Andy was not high but drunk, because alcohol was the drug he could find in a little town like Thame. Andy kicked the drugs but was not able to get rid of alcohol and his heart was so weak already - he did not tell anybody he had a heart condition, nobody expects a young man of 30 to die

I live in Miami and I will never forget one late afternoon in 1986 when I & a group of friends were on a yacht & we sailed behind Andy’s home. The windows were open and we could see a large screen tv playing. The captain told us that Andy lived there & suddenly Andy ran out to the dock, waving & smiling at us, as if he were genuinely happy to see his fans and interact with us. That’s a day I will never forget. He had moved here to Miami from LA to be close to his brothers & was set to join his brothers in 1988 as the official fourth Bee Gee. He passed away before it happened. His genuine smile & happiness to interact with us is a memory I will never forget. I wish I could’ve gotten to know him and his brothers. They have always been so humble & truly appreciative of their fans. I get emotional, even cry sometimes, when hear this and a few other songs. Thank you Chad, for sharing their wonderful music with all of us.

Chad, your words at the end were so wonderful and I hope that everyone heeds your advice and patches things up with a loved one that they're not on good terms with before it's too late and the opportunity has passed them by. Even at Robin's funeral, Barry, in his beautiful eulogy to his brother, said this about their sometimes turbulent relationship with each other. "We were laughing all the way. Sometimes crying. God knows how much we argued. Even right up to the end we found conflict with each other, which now means nothing. It just means nothing. If there's conflict in your lives - get rid of it." Wise words from two very wise men. Loved your reactions this weekend and will be waiting all week for what you have in store for us next weekend.Thank you, Chad.

He was not getting on with Andy at the time of his death. Barry has said the last time he spoke with Andy he was giving him “tough love” to try stop his drug use and drinking. He said he still feels terrible about that.

      @gloriamaryhaywood2217 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@katie-didellis2437 Tough love *might* have helped Andy had it been implemented years earlier. But that's only a guess. Like their mom Barbara stated; "Yes, Andy died clean, but it Was the drugs that killed him. It just took 10 years to do it."
I was pretty surprised to hear Barbara acknowledge that. That had to be a hard realisation for her.
I think all the brothers felt guilty that they could not save their kid brother. Probably Barry felt the weight of it the most, being the eldest and being so close to Andy. Very Sad.

@@katie-didellis2437 Oh, I've seen that episode with Lynn Redgrave several years ago. Like Barry said, when Mo came to see him he was met with a brick-wall. It was like "Nobody's smiling at your drinking anymore more, Mo!, Oh, and by the way You're Fired!" Barry said that was a very painful but necessary thing to do.
I know that both Barry and Robin Had to have been asked to participate in that interview by Mo himself. No way would they otherwise have spoken out against their brother.
They tried the same kind of tough-love thing with Andy, but it was just too little too late.💔

Yeah this is such a beautiful sad song that the brothers wrote for their brother Andy and Maurice said in the interview that it was hard for them to perform Wish You Were Here cuz they would think of Andy passing away so they instead would perform Our Love Don’t Throw It All Away cuz they would feel Andy’s presence in a happy feeling 😭

Beautiful song.. Song writers, performers, and a brother. This was the brother's way of going through their grief. When Andy died at Robin's house in England, Robin said he was in bad shape. Each brother tried to call Andy. Maurice was told by Robin that he was not able to even take the call. When Barry called later, he was angry with Andy and told him to get himself together, practicing tough love. Barry said it was the last time he talked to Andy and he has to live with that. From Larry King Weekend in 2002 interview.

I just got home from church, worked the sound booth for a viewing of a very good man who passed on. And here are Chad's selections for the afternoon. Unique coincidence, beautiful song. And, tomorrow is the funeral service, so I'll be running audio/visual in the booth for that, but I watch people interact warmly over fond memories as they listen to the music and watch the visual slide show that was prepared. It is much better to remember the good things and to enjoy one another's company in times when someone has passed. Remember, they aren't suffering the ills of this world anymore and we'll see them again eventually, provided your faith. Our loved ones never truly leave us, they are always within us, in our hearts.

Heartbreaking song for anyone to relate to by the brothers. The pain is definitely heard and felt in this tribute to Andy. They wanted to remember the true Andy as we all should, no matter how he passed, what he battled or what has been said will not bring him back. The brothers lost one of their own and the world lost a great talent, an amazing and gentle soul.

I'm older now (64) and I am losing friends, family and favourite celebs (that I of course didn't know). Songs such as this one brings back the memories of when we were together. Once gone, the memories are all we have. If we are talented enough to put it into song and verse then it becomes somehow immortal. Songs like this makes one think. Good reaction.

Barry said that the falling out he had with Robin was that Robin took this song and performed it on a solo album "Magnet". He deeply regretted the argument I think I identify with this song and the family conflicts when it comes to addiction. I also am from a family that siblings were caught in the cycle of addiction ultimately causing death. You can never control other people's behavior, and the guilt you feel over it is very sad. I used their music to help me through some tough times. Thanks for showing the humanity of the Bee Gees

My sister took her own life 31 years ago and it feels like it was today. We were close so it was a major shock to me and I still don't know what I could have done to stop her. To this day I rack my heart and brain. It's like they say that when a person takes their own life they aren't thinking about those left behind and those left behind are often left with guilt because you just wish you could have done something or in the case of those who were not getting along you wished there was no fiction. In my case I was close with her but evidently I was too close to see the forest for the trees. I love her and miss her daily every day and I'm so grateful she was my sister Terry Lee.

Didn't ever they play it live? I'll tellya, they did. But only twotimes, so it's been very hard for them emotionally. First time was in Kiel, Northern-Germany, to find on YT. Second time was in Salzburg, Austria and I was there. Open air event, roundabout 20000 visitors to their One For All-tour on that evening. The brothers had tears in their eyes, at the end of that song. The crowd was calm about 10 seconds, followed by standing ovations, lasting for nearly two minutes. That was great and a deep running experiance.

Out of the most excruciating pain comes often the most beautiful of creations...
As I listen to this tribute, my heart aches for Sir Barry Gibb, and his older sister, Leslie Evans (nee Gibb...) - pain is the price we pay for having Loved...
Over the years, the fact that the three brothers weren't able to perform this musical eulogy to baby brother Andy in public, only made me admire them even more...

Andy's death was tragic. Out of control, too much too soon as often happens. A shame people didn't seem to learn from what the older boys encountered but he was an adult and they could only do so much. His siblings were close in age and had each other in tough times. In the ambulance he asked his mother "Can I die from this?" Andy collapsed at Robin's home in Thame where he was living and where they tried to make him behave. When Robin was told Andy was gone he thought they meant he had left the hospital, but he was dead.
Robin said perhaps it was karma for their success. His later songs "Days of Wine and Roses" and "All we have is Now" no doubt reflect the losses they endured, especially the loss of Mo who everybody loved. His own death was horrific and dragged on for at least two years. I saw an awful photo of him skeletal and wrapped in a blanket. Mercifully Mo went quickly but too young. We can all learn from Barry's eulogy at Rob's funeral...Robin and I fought all the time but it all means nothing now. Get rid of it.

Now this one always makes me want to cry, written for Andy, he died so young & I was so crazy for him. We were around same age. This one hurts, at their concerts they would show videos of Andy, first couple times I saw it I cried. Is it odd to cry for someone I never really met but feel like it after following them all for years. 😢💔

They tried one time to do this song live and broke down and couldn't do it, it hurt them so bad when Andy died , i remember Mo said in an interview it took them so long to get through the recording in the studio because they just kept crying , and finally Mo said they just pulled it together on the last try and that was this you are hearing . Andy was supposed to join them in the group for this album and become the fourth Bee Gee but it wasn't meant to be :(

Beautiful song but so painful. I read Mo went to the studio after Andy passed and started the musical part. The brothers became so emotional and had to wait a few weeks to complete the song. Also heard this song was so emotional for the brothers that they could never perform this live. Not sure if true but what I heard. Melts my heart. Definitely hits home after losing several of my family members.

They actually performed this live at the beginning of the 1989 World Tour but it was too emotional and they chose "How Deep Is Your Love" as their dedication to Andy for the rest of the tour. That entire album was so polished and smooth (Barry pretty much abandoned the falsetto for the entire album). Barry should do a remix, though, like he did with the concert audio from that tour. The new sound has a much warmer feel than the 80's mix which tends to sound a bit cold.
Try "End of the Rainbow" from Barry 2016's solo album. That was his tribute to Robin.
