This is a very important video. I can agree that as an MD/PhD student even some of our medical student classmates think we are so amazing not realizing that we have a whole bunch of failures. A few of my failures are: 1) got rejected from A LOT of scholarship applications before college 2) almost burned down one of my labs that I interned in using sterile technique (that's a whole story in itself that I may share if I make a youtube channel) 😂 3) I've failed soooo many exams in my academic career both leading up to college and up to being in MD/PhD program and still even in med school (like low 20's %) 😂 4) got rejected from medical spanish course 5) got rejected from Hopkins MD/PhD program (so many others, but the important thing is to realize that you learn from each failure and you learn how to bounce back). Great video!

Almost burned down a lab? That must be an awesome story! 😂 I see you started your TH-cam channel btw. That's awesome! Congrats!

@@MDPhDandMe Yep, it's a super funny story. Not my proudest moment😅. My PI still doesn't know to this day 🤣🤣. I may tell that story on my youtube channel one day. But thanks. I just decided to take the plunge and do it. I talk about being an MD/PHD student all of the time and am always on panels, so I just decided to put some of that content out there. Thanks for the congrats! Keep producing the content. Glad you are feeling better! Kudos to balancing the channel and consistent uploads with med school classes.

I'm a current pre-med freshman and I've binge-watched most of your videos. I want to say your videos are so insightful about the md/phd path , and they motivate me to keep going on the path to becoming an md/phd student. I also really like the videos where you just talk about your experiences because they give me more perspective. I hope you keep on making videos!

It’s crazy how much I relate to so many of the failures you talked about and I love how you’re able to look at how they set you up for success instead! That’s definitely something I’m working on now

Yeah, I really owe a lot to my UChicago rejection. It wasn't fun, but it certainly got me in a go-hard-or-go-home mindset. Now I just try to do my personal best and not compare myself to others. It's always a work in progress, but I'm enjoying the journey!
