I’m watching this episode on Christmas Day with an afternoon cuppa and a biscuit. The more you show us the surrounding area you and Sue live in, it seems to get more beautiful and how exciting to watch the seasons unfold. Bye for now.
That wee tree next to the leylandi is a very old Kilmarnock Willow. A dwarf form of willow tree. In the spring it will be covered in pussy willow and new leaves. It is a weeping willow. They are lovely 😊
The tree looks like a weeping cherry to me but then what do I know I live on the other side of the world...🤭🤭..btw I keep meaning to ask..how did the pheasant fair? Did it go in the pot for revenge...I mean dinner????😅
Good morning! We are new subscribers after seeing you on Escape to the Country. We have now watched 2 episodes and are really enjoying the content. As we live in South Africa we cannot advise on planting as our climate is very different but I have some advice for you …. use the soil from the molehills in your garden beds , pots and even lawn dressing where you may have bad patches on the lawnIt is usually very good topsoil. Your new home is gorgeous!.
I have. Came across his channel just a few months ago. Love watching him. He is so creative and inspirational. I’m sure I’ll get some tips from watching him. 🙏🤗❤️
@ I’ve just sold my house and I’m moving to Scotland. May need to travel around first though to get a feel for places, im hoping for something to come up on Orkney. I’ve only a tiny budget. Do get house envy when I watch your channel. Happy Christmas both. Xx
I’m so happy to see you have your own channel. I fell in love with both of you when I saw you on escape to the country and was overjoyed when I found you bought the beautiful home. Thanks for sharing your life with me and others. Much love, Carmela
Brilliant scenery and such a peaceful area, Keep the soil and put in a compost bin ready for your planting of bulbs and planting seeds😂❤ Hope Christmas went well.
I’ve just discovered a New Life in the Highlands. I had an Old Life in the Highlands where I was born and brought up. I am now happily retired and live in the glorious sunshine of the Algarve. Your vlogs though - talk about nostalgia. I love it. The feeling of being so cold I thought my fingers had dropped off and the race to sit nearest the radiator in the classroom which was a complete waste of time as it never gave out enough heat to thaw a thumb never mind a whole hand. However the cold withstanding, my heart is definitely still in the Highlands so thank you very much for bringing me home xxxx
Oh how lovely to think we’ve given you that homely feeling. Thank you for watching and hope we can give you some more glimpses of home over the months to come. 🙏🤗❤️
The low clipped tree could be a wisteria tree? What a great property. The herb garden is actually a cold frame and you can grow fresh lettuces in that. Greenhouse would be perfect for tomatoes and certainly in the springtime for seedlings. The big bird house is for Martins, who like to nest together a la condominiums!
Half the world’s population of moles lived in my yard, once upon a time. We tried everything to get rid of them, to no avail. An elderly gentleman told me the method he used was this… Moles eat grubs, kill the grubs and the moles move on. My husband went to the garden store and bought grub killer and spread it around… sure enough, the moles disappeared and never returned. 🕺🏻💃🏻 True story!
The little nook you have as your favourite spot , not just you whole gorgeous ,lovely ,brilliant house but where you like your tea and toast. I would be then whenever at home . Such a great choice you made , lovely country .🫶❤️🐾
Such beautiful views from your walk Kath. I wonder if the little tree in your garden is a Kilmarnock Willow. I had one years ago. I suppose you'll find out in the spring. Wishing you, Sue and Fudge a very happy Christmas in your new home.
What an absolutely wonderful video Kath. Loved every bit of your magnificent walk...those views ❤️. I wish I enjoyed running like Sue but its just too darn hard so Ill stick to a walk like you. Loved the garden tour too. Start watching Gardeners World as Monty Don will give you plenty of inspiration....plus he has lovely poochies helping him too. Have a wonderful Christmas (you've got the best present already ie A Highland Home). Take care Gav
Just a thought - I don’t know much about the Scottish climate as I live in West Wales which has fairly mild but very wet weather! If there’s a local gardening club near you that might be a good place to get to know about what grows best in your area. You’ll often find the members sell their surplus plants too, or swap them!
Thank you Kath sue and fudge for a lovely vlog it is beautiful where you live enjoy all what is there for you all hope you all have a brilliant Christmas keep safe take care best wishes Sheila and family
Yes everyone who commented about the “mole hill soil” is correct, lovely stuff to put back in your borders and/or your planters. Tomatoes would be great for your greenhouse, a few plants 🌱 bought or grown by you from seed, maybe Gardeners Delight, cherry sized tomatoes 🍅 if you don’t like tomatoes many young and delicate plants benefit from the protection of a greenhouse. ❤
Really enjoying your videos. Found them after watching your episode of ETTC and youtube suggested one of your videos. I love the workspace you have. Maybe the previous owner would be interested in teaching you some carpentry skills in exchange for use of the work space - he may be wishing he had more room for projects. As for what to do with the greenhouse - search youtube for Charles Dowding. He's in Somerset and has an excellent gardening channel on youtube. You could use the greenhouse initially just for a small container garden inside, but you may get the bug and find yourself doing more! He can teach you everything you need to know about making compost - you can compost all your food waste (minus meat scraps and dairy) and use it to enrich your soil. He has been perfecting a no-dig approach since the 1980s which works exceptionally well and saves a lot of the backbreaking work.
Thank you so much. I’ll look him up as that sounds like the perfect starting point for us novice gardeners. As for the workspace, the previous owner has popped back a few times he is a lovely man and has given me tips already. Sue dreads it as he suggests new tools I ‘need’. 😂 we are in league together to kit out the workshop. He is very well known around this area and respected for his skillls, although now retired, so I’m hoping some of that rubs off. 🙏🤗❤️
Lovely video as always Kath and Sue, seemless transition to your new normal, really enjoyed seeing the whole garden, have a great Christmas and new year, love ya ❤️👍🏴🚌
Hi Kath & Sue lovely tour of your ranch 😁 You can start your seedlings off in the greenhouse and then transfer them to the cold frame (herb garden) before planting out Start with something small in the spring / summer like tomatoes you don’t need to buy seeds just use the shop bought tomatoes scrape out some seeds and dry them ready for planting 😁 You work great together as a team more Sue air time & Fudge🐾😁 Merry Christmas & Happy New Year Karen & Natalie Tay🐾 & Sanna🐾 xx
Lovely tour of the garden… beautiful! Try using google lens to find out what type of tree/bush that was. Google lens can be very helpful. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
Go on a long distance drive to Glendoick garden Centre , it’s a superb nursery between Dundee and Perth, excellent books , in particular Kenneth Coxs , Best plants for Scotland. Great restaurant with award winning soups . It ‘ might have’ kennels for your labie. Can’t quite remember! , really good staff that will steer you in the right direction. Greetings from Zimbabwe and Happy Christmas 🎄
It is so lovely. We feel very lucky. I’m glad you’re enjoying our walks. Never sure if it’s interesting for other so nice to hear it’s good for you. 🙏🤗❤️
Just saw your episode of Escape to the country it was on here YT on UK TV 4 which is channel 4 on YT - great episode and 3 great houses but the one you chose is by far the best one ❤ hope once spring arrives you will be able to do more around the garden and get some plants in and hope the moles also reduce ❤❤
Hello Ladies. Great videos. New sub here. Welcome to the area. I'm also relatively new here, within walking distance of the Pine Martin. Your joy of the area reflects my own. Just a privilege to live here.
I wonder if you’ll get other visitors to the dovecot? Often called a doocot, the Scots name for wood pigeons are cushie doos 😊 Love the natural way your channel has grown and what a beautiful place to settle down. Thanks for sharing your journey 🙏🏽Have a Merry Christmas 🎄and best wishes for a healthy happy New year 🫶
Thank you so much. I love that name, cushie doos. I do hope we have some come to visit. As for the channel growth, we can’t believe how much it’s grown over the last year. We regularly get contact from people offering their services to help us grow and to improve our thumbnails and things like that but we always turn this down as this is a hobby and has been fun learning at our own pace.
Get some spring bulbs and put into the planters now for some colour in the spring, then take it slowly with spring summer planting bedding flowers, if you want to try some veg in the green house wait till June and plant some easy veg , use this first year to watch the garden and see what comes up etc and give your time to plan for the year after.
Your hedges look like conifers, you need to ensure when you trim them don’t cut into the brown they won’t re green, but you do need to keep them in check during the growing season they can get to large if left
Thank you. That is such detailed advice. I’ve written this down so I don’t forget it. As soon as Christmas is done I’m going to follow this advice. 🙏🤗❤️
@MotorhomeMums Your welcome. My husband and I spent many happy days in the Cairngorms, starting with skiing in the 70's with Karl Fuchs who started the whole skiing thing off, then when we got older it was golf (husband) and me fly fishing. Unfortunately I'm now a widow and although still driving it's just not the same, so watching you enjoying a place dear to me is lovely. Best wishes Frances
Lovely video again. If you have moles it's likely you will have rabbits too. They will love anything you plant in your borders. I plant begonias in our raised planters and they do well and give lots of colour. Happy Christmas to you all. X😊
Lovely video... amazing drone footage... first time I have seen the green loch frozen. That's quite a walk home.. thank you for taking us with you. 🤗 merry Christmas to you both 🎄
Thank you. I have wanted to get drone footage of the Green Loch for so long but there has been too many people, too much wind or I’ve not had it with me, so it was good to finally see it from the air. Merry Christmas to you too. 🙏🤗❤️🎄
Happy Christmas to you both and fudge thank you for showing us around your garden, next year you could grow a load of tomatoes in your greenhouse, lots of potential in there ❤
Beautiful garden. I wonder if that is a dead weeping willow, I'm not too sure sorry. We have a greenhouse but we just grow tomatoes and cucumbers in it once a year , we don't use it to it's full potential. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you both ❤❤ xx
Maybe you and Sue could join a gardening club Kath..your green house..keep the door shut to keep the heat in. You could easily grow lettuce, silverbeet, tomatoes, capsicums, peas, beans depending on the season..just follow the instructions on the packets. That herb garden looks a bit like a worm farm to me, especially with the bits of poly pipes..might be wrong there too as I live in Western Australia..do you know definately that its a herb garden ? Live and learn ladies..as you know you're never too old to learn something new 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🙂minus 8°C..lovely..I used to garden in Tasmania at that temp...enjoyed it more than the 40°C these days in Western Australia..take care on those frozen tracks Kath have you a hiking pole?
I think a gardening club could be a good idea. We’ve had some advice so I think we will start with the easy stuff and see what we can learn from that. I do have hiking poles. Find them really useful especially for coming down. Really helps my knees. 🙏🤗❤️
@@MotorhomeMums did notice one sticking out of your back pack and wondered why you didnt use it..bit late after you've fallen on the ice Kath..better safe than sorry..
Since i do not have a garden i cannot advice you, but if i were in your place with all the new things to discover i would look for tutorials on youtube. And there must be books on how to start gardening. It was so nice to accompany you on your walk, i love the scenery. I'll be back for more!
We are coming up from Spey Bay in our Moho for Hogmanay in Grantown-On-Spey, it’s a really lovely event with great street party dancing and fireworks. Great content, love Speyside and Cairngorms. Thanks for sharing your adventure so far.
Brilliant loved your video and I love the area so much and Motorhome life - I have an Autotrail Apache. There is a lovely walk from Boat of Garten over to Aviemore incase you don’t know it yet. Head along Kinchurdy Road and follow the signs.
Looks like the mole has moved on for Christmas 🤞when you showed the river/stream at the end of your walk to get through to me it didn't even look passable, gald you got through and didn't have to turn back. Wishing you both a Happy Christmas 🎄🎁 and New Year🥂see you in 2025🎉 x
Hi, lovely video I bet your garden will look great come summer. Interested to know how long your beautiful walk was? I meant to say on last video, I watched the BBC programme and had to laugh as I’ve never heard Sue speak so much, it was lovely to hear her. It would be great if you could entice her to do more talking when you’re together 🤞. Hopefully the moles will stay away ❤❤❤
😂😂😂I’m doing my best. Lovely comments like these help. The walk was 8.5 miles. Lovely walk and mostly fairly easy walking. Update on the moles… as soon as I turn my back the pop up again. I think they are having a little party. 🎉 🙏🤗❤️
Your planters at the front I would wait until next year put bedding plants in about may time for some colour though the summer then in September put a few bulbs in the bottom for some colour in the spring these will come up every year xx
@@MotorhomeMums Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and garden also taking us along on your hikes. There’s so many beautiful hardy perennial plants that you would only have to plant once and they would last for years, but I’d advise waiting until the spring that way you’ll see what has been planted by the previous owner and go from there, whatever you decide I’m sure your garden will be beautiful. Merry Christmas and all the best for 2025 ❤
Kath what are you doing? Thats fantastic soil it came out from under your lawn, maybe one day when your lawn collapses you might need it to refill or top dress it or toss it under your trees. Make a vege patch out back, top up your planters, fill your pots in your greenhouse ready for seeds..real waste just tossing over the fence, soon it will bank up and the moles or rabbits/hares can jump the fence🤭🤭🤭🐇 or the cows will be able to step up and over🐂🐂🐄🤭🤭😊..I was reading up on moles as we dont have them here, they can dig 100 feet a day and you might only have 1 mole not lots but I also read that people poison them, how horrid but beware when you have dogs as the baits are very toxic..Im wondering if the previous owners might have left any around..might pay to check in your sheds etc..good luck..apparently you can trap and relocate them too, but Im sure you have read up onall of this too😊 happy new year...ah the joys of country living🤭🤗 thanks for a great video..loved it🙏
Thank you for the tip. I’ve had lots of people saying soil is good so I’m now saving it as top soil. The sonic things didn’t work. The moles just doing the highland fling all around them. 😂 I’m not into killing them so am resigned to just removing the hills until they naturally move on the better places. 🙏🤗❤️
The soil from th mole hills will be excellent for you planters. Just as good as compost. 😊
Or could just rake it into the grass it will grow through
yes,please don`t throw it away
The soul from mole hills would have been great for your planters or saved as compost, alternative use just rake it into the grass.
Thank you. So many people have said this so I’ve started doing this. 🙏🤗❤️
Also great for adding to soil for cordon tomatoes which you can easily grow in your greenhouse.
I’m watching this episode on Christmas Day with an afternoon cuppa and a biscuit. The more you show us the surrounding area you and Sue live in, it seems to get more beautiful and how exciting to watch the seasons unfold. Bye for now.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the programme. We just love it here. 🙏🤗❤️

That wee tree next to the leylandi is a very old Kilmarnock Willow. A dwarf form of willow tree. In the spring it will be covered in pussy willow and new leaves. It is a weeping willow. They are lovely 😊
Ahhh!! That is so spooky as we have family in Kilmarnock. Can’t wait to see it in full leaf. Thank you. 🙏🤗❤️
The tree looks like a weeping cherry to me but then what do I know I live on the other side of the world...🤭🤭..btw I keep meaning to ask..how did the pheasant fair? Did it go in the pot for revenge...I mean dinner????😅

Hi, A blank canvas fo r the garden. I've just started watching "Rewilding Jude" he has recently moved to the highlands and beginning gardens. =-)
Funny. I have recently started watching him too. I love his creativity so I’m sure I’ll get some inspiration from him.
Ahhh!! Thank you. It would be lovely to get some Martins nesting in the spring. 🙏🤗❤️
Half the world’s population of moles lived in my yard, once upon a time. We tried everything to get rid of them, to no avail. Oh wow!! I may be resorting to that. 🙏🤗❤️

Hi Kath & Sue lovely tour of your ranch 😁
You can start your seedlings off in the greenhouse and then transfer them to the cold frame (herb garden) before planting out
Start with something small in the spring / summer like tomatoes you don’t need to buy seeds just use the shop bought tomatoes scrape out some seeds and dry them ready for planting 😁
You work great together as a team more Sue air time & Fudge🐾😁
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
Karen & Natalie Tay🐾 & Sanna🐾 xx

Thank you… and for the top tip. I think we will try tomatoes 🙏🤗❤️
Oh no!! I hope not. Tomatoes sounds like a plan for us beginners. Merry Christmas to you too. 🙏🤗❤️
Great video. Definitely keep the mole hill soil for planters.
Thank you. I think the moles will be keeping me busy. 😂🙏❤️
Thank you. Hope to do lots more exploring so would love you to keep watching. I’m hoping Santa might bring me a gardening book. 🤞🙏🤗❤️
We are coming up from Spey Bay in our Moho for Hogmanay in Grantown-On-Spey, it’s a really lovely event with great street party dancing and fireworks. Great content, love Speyside and Cairngorms. Thanks for sharing your adventure so far.
Ooooo that sounds lovely. We may well end up there too. 🙏🤗❤️
Brilliant loved your video and I love the area so much and Motorhome life - I have an Autotrail Apache. There is a lovely walk from Boat of Garten over to Aviemore incase you don’t know it yet. Head along Kinchurdy Road and follow the signs.
Ah. Thank you. We haven’t found that one yet. One for the future. 🙏🤗❤️
Another great video thank you . Wishing you both a very merry Christmas 🎄 in your beautiful new home and not forgetting fudge🐶
Thank you so much. Merry Christmas to you too. 🙏🤗❤️
Oh gosh me too!! I was in the latter part of the walk so I think I would have swam across if needed. 😂 Merry Christmas to you too. 🙏🤗❤️🎄
Oh thank you. Someone else mentioned bulbs so we definitely need to follow that advice. 🙏🤗❤️
Wishing you both a happy Christmas. 😊
Thank you very much. You too. 🙏🤗❤️🎄
Amazing!!
Thank you. 🙏🤗❤️
Employ a gardener would be my advice! I do as I need gardening that's it !!
😂😂😂we may well end up doing that. 🙏🤗❤️
@@MotorhomeMums ahhh it did say on Google that they didnt really work.. the trapping/relocating seemed to be the most logical...
