I worked at a record store in Memphis for 4 years when I was a teenager and singers/bands would come in off and on promoting a new album or a tour. Most were personable, but Linda rose to the top. She was friendly and gracious- just a stellar human being over and above her tremendous talent. Even more beautiful in person. Keep listening to her Saeed- she never disappoints.
Fun, isn’t it? No longer, and not for many years. I was no one memorable to the “stars” I met, working as a bartender in a huge night club. We could hold over 2,000, and I always volunteered for “concert nights”. The day started early, usually around 2 pm. The club an empty cavern, just house lights on. A cook, and maybe 2 other bartenders. The busses pull in, and the roadies start their jobs. All together, a fun bunch, working hard, doing the impossible, while joshing and pranking. Keep the ice water and soda coming, these kids are knocking it out of the park. I seem to remember them eating like they might not get food again. Lighting checks, then the instruments, sound checks started. Sounded like throwing pots and pans in the floor. All done, maybe 3 hours before opening, and maybe much more before the concert. Some “stars” were on the ball, involved, stayed with their people, and looked out for them. Charlie Daniels comes to mind. Kind, polite, and smiled at the antics his roadies were up to. Some were aloof. Only seen them during the show, and then disappeared onto the bus after. A very few were down right mean and rude. The day ended around 5 am, and on breaks, the roadies would spend the concert time (the ones who didn’t work the show) playing. Anything from riding the bull, to playing football in the back lot. Sometimes we were invited to the busses, just to hang out, have a drink, and talk. I spent 20 years in the business, and it was a magical time.
*Saeed, you would LOVE the documentary, "Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice." Captivating film, covering her extraordinary career, and available via many platforms.*
Don Henley Said Desperado Wasn't am Truly A Success until Linda Ronstadt Dod This Cover While She Toured With The Eagles. Ghis Song Is Best Sung by Female Vocalist they Will Make Cry instead of Just Sad. Suzi Quattro also Did Great Cover 😢😢
Linda is the best, and this was a live performance. So powerful and emotional. She was a phenomenal talent and a class act - a beautiful soul. She could sing any genre and captivate you. The 70's were a decade of incredible music. Linda reigned!
New subscriber loving your response to MY FAVORITE singer ❤❤❤ Because my friend you have a discerning mind and ear, and a rare appreciation for the nuances of Artistry in song. I had just escaped high school in 1967 when her first hit Different Drum came out and she captured my ❤ forever. I encourage you to explore her full, legendary catalog that produced over 100 million album sales, 11 Grammys, hundreds of collaborations with other artists, and finally, for me her towering masterpiece album Canciones De Mi Padre her tribute to her Mexican heritage. If you want to know Linda Ronstadt, you won't without her Mexican mariachi roots.😅
I've loved LInda through her entire career. So glad to see her talent introduced to today's generation. Don't forget to react to her Latin music from 'Conciones de Mi Padre" albums
Don Henley specifically asked Linda to sing Desperado because they didn’t sell enough records and he felt she would sell them and she did. Mick Jagger did the same thing with “Tumbling Dice”. He changed some of the words for her version and she made a hit out of it too. Her voice is her instrument. Absolutely beautiful.
I saw Linda and the Stone Ponies with Glen and Don (before the Eagles) at Fillmore East in the late 1960's. Sweet show. Loved your reaction. English may not be your first language but you have a wonderful way with words.
Some great writing always loved the lines in the song "Now it seems to me some fine things Have been laid upon your table But you only want the ones that you can't get". Many of us are searching for something elusive but you already have so much and should be satisfied with it. I can't say if Linda's version was more popular but the original version by Eagles is great too IMHO.
Saeed, I'm shocked that English is your second language. Honestly you have better enunciation than many of my friends. And any song that Linda covered, she made it her own. that's greatness!
They recorded it and the album it was on did not sell much, until after she recorded it. You should also listen to her singing: You're No Good, La Charreada, some of her recordings with Nelson Riddle, and her performance in Gilbert & Sullivan's Pirates of Pnezance.
One of the most powerful, beautiful voices ever. Yes, she can pretty much take credit for the Eagles finding each other. And unfortunately the Eagles are holy terrors on reactors. I thought you had covered this, and more of her music already…ooppps! Well, you’re in for some real treats! Next you *MUST* react to her song, *”Blue Bayou”* (one of my favorites) you won’t regret it, I promise!
In the 80s she released 3 albums of Big Band music/torch songs that are lovely but often overlooked. Check out “What's New“ the title track on the first of the three.
Linda is and will always be one of the greatest voices of generations, Amazing artist it didn’t matter what genre it was live or in the studio she could sing it all with beauty and grace, pure authentic talent there’s only one Linda Ronstadt ❤🎶
No matter the genre, Linda spread pure joy with the powerful, clear timbre of her vocals. Certainly an icon, definitely a gift to all who have found the time to listen. ❤️🎶🎤
Linda’s voice is the most beautiful sound I have ever heard! The perfect blend of sweetness, vulnerability, control and power is exquisite! More please from this amazingly talented woman. 🌸💐✌️

I've always been a fan of Linda Ronstadt and her beautiful voice. This is my favorite song that she performs. I miss her singing. Hope you do some more of her songs. Thanks, Saeed. Love your comments ❤️
Many songs have certain lines that shine like gems for their clarity and sparkle. This song is the whole treasure chest. Line after line just strikes poetic and true. Linda Ronstadt's rendition is about the best in my opinion.
Definitely. Two other singers in my experience seemed better live than recorded: Steve Perry and Chrissie Hynde. I always hoped Linda would do a duet with either of them, but, as far as I know, it never happened.
Boy, Linda's dynamic range really does contribute to emotional performing. I see that today in Alison Krauss and Brandi Carlisle! It's hard for me to realize English is not your first language, Saeed, as your witty and articulate with it. It's been fun hearing your great reactions to my favorite music from the early 1970s, all those singer-songwriters and top-notch vocalists like Linda Rondstadt. I'll attest to the fact I'm trying to live "73 years old is the new 23!"❤ Thanks for reinforcing my conviction that I've always had great taste in music!
It was so simple then to call out someone who was missing out on love....there was love out here waiting for all of us...there is love out here for all of us but it's complicated now.... now there are shaking pools of identity and shimmering ideas of belonging. I want to be loved but I really don't know how I can ever let it happen.
You make me so happy Saeed, the most beautiful rendition of this Eagles song, gives me shivers. Pure pitch control before pitch correction and autotune were invented.
Linda actually made this song popular even though the Eagles wrote and released it first! Here are two suggestions, Lose Again and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
The interconnections of the LA music scene border on incestuous. Frey and Henley claim they learned how to write songs from their time renting a room from Jackson Browne. Linda hired Frey and Henley for one of her early tours, and they shared a room on the road where they started writing songs together. When The Eagles' sales started slumping, they hired Joe Walsh to juice up their sound, who previously fronted the James Gang. And Linda often sang background vocals for James Taylor, who dated Joni Mitchell before she got involved with Graham Nash, who in turn was introduced to future bandmates Stills and Crosby at a party thrown by Mama Cass, where they discovered their magical three part harmony that they used to such great effect in CS&N.
All of the above, and Joe Walsh is Ringo Starr’s brother-in-law. Most of the aforementioned were at some time produced or managed by Peter Asher who moved to LA with James Taylor, whom he discovered in London, where he and Paul McCartney were once housemates.
You want breathe control listen to her Spanish songs,La Charreada, La Cigarra with Mariachi playing with her just amazing how she can hold those notes for so long.
Thanks for this one, Saeed. I was lucky enough to score a last minute front row center seat to one of her shows, which was great until I found out the opening act was the comedian Gallagher. If anybody remembers him and his Sledge-O-Matic routine, you know what I'm talking about lol There was a loooong break to clean up the stage before Linda could start, but both performers made it a very memorable show. Few singers can combine power and intimacy like Linda can.
Yes it was on their second album also called Desperado and did little for 18 months Linda's cover was a big hit and the Eagle's version later became popular.
Peter Asher, who produced most of Linda's albums in the 70s, was half of the duo Peter and Gordon. Peter was the brother of Paul McCartney's girlfriend and he wrote a couple of their hits.
She could melt your heart with that voice. Such a beautiful person inside and out. Others have already given you the background on the Linda and the Eagles. All true. She made this song the hit that it became. Much love to you and your family 😅🫂
The 4 original Eagles played in her backup group, but not all at the same time. Frey and Henley were there together and interested in going on their own. She hooked them up with Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner who she already knew. The Eagles were born.
I've seen Linda live about 15 times and Desperado was always the last song of the set. She did an American Standard version when she was touring with Nelson Riddle; and a Spanish-language version when she was out promoting Canciones de Mi Padre.
I first saw her on the Johnny Cash show when she was with the Stone Ponies and she was 21 years old. Years later I landscaped her parents house in Tucson Arizona and met her as she was there visiting. She was kind and friendly.
Henley and Frey wrote this song and Linda recorded it first. If I remember correctly Linda's back-up band became the Eagles after she was gaining popularity. Desparado and Tequila Sunrise were the first 2 tunes Don Henley and Glenn Frey co-wrote, not a bad start, if you ask me. They recorded a concept-album called Desperado that has both songs on it, which is my favorite Eagles album. Now listen to J.D. Southard's Faithless Love by Linda.
Linda sings EVERYTHING Check out LA CIGARRA spanish mariachi music,, What's New with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra live...big band....POOR WANDERING one OPERA....a year on broadway...coloratura soprano.....ADIOS...arrranged by Brian Wilson of the Beach boys....Tumbling DiCE ROCK arranged for her by Mick Jagger, Your're no Good ROCK...Blue Bayou....ballad...all different genre's of music sung to perfection...these will show you the range of her voice and the power and delicate beauty of her voice
Why is it that every time I look at her I fall in love all over with her??? What a beautiful woman and person with such a gift..??? She blows my mind every time I look at her even after all these years.
Desperado remains my favorite Eagles album; it was the Eagles with Bernie Leadon before Don Felder. While Don Henley sings a superb version, Linda Ronstadt put the Desperado album on the map with her version.
@@alfredgiuliani8253 The Eagles version came out first, and really wasn't selling that well until Linda's version came out a few months later, when it got a bump.
@@markmurphy558 The Eagles version wasn't released as a single, so it was only played on progressive FM stations in certain markets where they played album cuts. Linda's version was a single, albeit the b side of the less popular Colorado, which is also a great song.
Look her up on Wikipedia if you haven't already. Her accolades don't stop from anyone in the profession. From the late 1960's to the end of her voice, just recently, she crossed so many genres from rock 'n' roll, country, blues, opera, folk, and her last big album smash hit "La Cantas Por Me Padre" with the Mariachi bands, you will not believe it. The best accolades come from none other than Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson. He said "if there is any man who doesn't have a crush on Linda, they haven't heard her sing," She is just as nice in person as what you see on stage. I can go on and on but I won't. For me, her doing Desperado changes the song from a guy giving an errant friend or relative advice to a woman in love with this guy who is chasing after dreams and a woman who will only hurt him in the end. She is advising him but he doesn't see what he's got sitting right there next to him. I've read the comments so far and they say much of all the same things. Of all the great singers of the 20th Century, she is right at the top. Her Grammys prove it. It's like the whole music industry is the Desperado forgetting what real talent is. She didn't need all the glitz and glitter but when it came to the Mariachi music she did. There is a natural shyness about her our modern stars lack. It's the difference between the glitter and the gold. The only thing I wish she did was to write her own songs. What she has done was to take other's hits and with her magic improve on them. She is a true artist.
I think it's fruitless to try and name the GOAT - that will always result in endless argument. But hey, every one if us has our favorites ❤ It so happens Linda is mine yours might be Ann Wilson, Bonnie Raitt, Karen Carpenter ( ADORE THEM ALL) but they are all in the same conversation. The GOAT is plural, not singular. ❤🎉
Saaed: listen to Linda rock your socks off with "Tumblin' Dice".......or.......Linda enchanting us in Spanish with "La Charreada". Either choice (or both) will leave you loving Linda even more! N.B. You haven't seen breath control until you've heard & seen the video for "La Charreada". Thanks & cheers from Canada!
She is amazing ❤ Just pure talent hands down! Im older and I think everyone has there favs from there generation but I don't like auto tune or music made on a computer. A musician is a master of there instruments and there voice. To write and perform comes from years of practice and there is no short cut to either. 😊
this cis girl had a crush on her and still does. desperado is my favorite song of hers because of a personal connection. linda has always been a national treasure.
I never see anyone asking for Mack Davis songs. Since you love stories, I think you would really like Mack singing "Lubbock Texas in My Rearview Mirror".
Yes, The Eagles, or more exactly Don Henley, is a notorious blocker. He said he has a team of 60 people whose job is to block unlicensed use of their music.
You should watch the many documentaries on laural canyon in California lots of the artists your reacting to were all neighbors in th 60s. It will give you lots more incite into the early music scene in America. 😊

YES!! Thank you for giving Linda credit for basically being responsible for the existence of of the Eagles, one of the greatest bands ever.
Amazing artist. Such a great voice! Thanks for watching.
Linda Ronstadt and Karen Carpenter. Voices you never forget.
No autotune!
@@SMtWalkerS Linda Ronstadt has no one to compare to her. She's simply the best. Karen is okay, but Linda Ronstadt could do ANYTHING.
Linda was actually the one who pushed for the Eagles to be picked up as artists on their own merit. Gracious and kind.
After playing in her band Glenn Frey and Don Henley wanted to go out on their own and told her and she gave them her blessing.
One pass, LIVE, no excuses. PERFECTION.
Glen and Don were in her band before they formed the Eagles. Linda is just a worldly TREASURE!! Every time I hear Linda it gets me.
Watch her in The Pirates of Penzance. You won't believe it's the same singer. She sings the part of Mabel, which is a coloratura soprano role.
She could sing any genre, opera to zydeco.
This woman could sing anything. ❤❤❤❤❤
She could sing the phone book, and I would love it. ;^}
She sang everything.
*Her standards (with Nelson Riddle Orchestra) and Spanish language songs with Mariachi Vargas ("La Charreada," "La Cigarra,") are EXTRAORDINARY!*
THE greatest voice of the 70s and 80s.

Linda at full bore reminds me of that other great singer Jennifer Warnes who also had great clarity and wonderful control from soft to loud.
I saw her in concert back in 1977. Yeah, I’m old. Simply, an amazing voice‼️♥️

From the late 1960's to the end
of her voice, just recently, she crossed so many genres from rock 'n' roll, country, blues, opera,
folk, and her last big album smash hit "La Cantas Por Me Padre" with the Mariachi bands, you
will not believe it. The best accolades come from none other than Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson.
He said "if there is any man who doesn't have a crush on Linda, they haven't heard her sing,"
She is just as nice in person as what you see on stage.
I can go on and on but I won't.
For me, her doing Desperado changes the song from a guy giving an errant friend or relative
advice to a woman in love with this guy who is chasing after dreams and a woman who will
only hurt him in the end. She is advising him but he doesn't see what he's got sitting right there
next to him.
I've read the comments so far and they say much of all the same things. Of all the great
singers of the 20th Century, she is right at the top. Her Grammys prove it.
It's like the whole music industry is the Desperado forgetting what real talent is. She
didn't need all the glitz and glitter but when it came to the Mariachi music she did.
There is a natural shyness about her our modern stars lack. It's the difference between
the glitter and the gold.
The only thing I wish she did was to write her own songs. What she has done was to take
other's hits and with her magic improve on them.
She is amazing ❤
Just pure talent hands down!
Im older and I think everyone has there favs from there generation but I don't like auto tune or music made on a computer. A musician is a master of there instruments and there voice. To write and perform comes from years of practice and there is no short cut to either. 😊
Was so waiting for this. TX Saeed. You are so appreciated. She is absolutely amazing. Greetings from South Africa
Beautiful! Thanks for watching. Greetings from Belgium.
One of my favorite LR songs ❤
I'm sure I was the only guy in the country with a crush on that girl.
this cis girl had a crush on her and still does. desperado is my favorite song of hers because of a personal connection. linda has always been a national treasure.
I never see anyone asking for Mack Davis songs. Since you love stories, I think you would really like Mack singing "Lubbock Texas in My Rearview Mirror".
Yes, The Eagles, or more exactly Don Henley, is a notorious blocker. He said he has a team of 60 people whose job is to block unlicensed use of their music.
listen to La Charreada ccn Mariachi Vargas for breath control and a real change of genre. Anything she does live is great.
You should watch the many documentaries on laural canyon in California lots of the artists your reacting to were all neighbors in th 60s. It will give you lots more incite into the early music scene in America. 😊
❤❤❤❤
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Home Free has a video of them doing 7 Bridges Road by the Eagles !
Glen Frey's last name is pronounced "fry".
Please do TUMBLING DICE and HHEATWAVE Live from this same concert 1977 Atlanta by Linda Rondtadt
I think it was glen frye who said that desperado was dong nothing until Linda sang it
"Freedom's is Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose". A Kris Kristofferson song from around this time.
My husband rode fence for a ranch when he was young. Hard work.
Im 60 & was told many tines this was my theme song .. I was pushin 40 before I settled down with my wife & her 5 kids LOL
Karen Carpenter did a cover of this, too....also very beautiful...both women are worth a listen or two or three or😊
Gotta hear “Blue Bayou” 🩷🩷🩷🩷
As a die hard Don Henley fan ... Nothing compares to his version. This may be lovely, but I can't compare it
Linda's voice was just beautiful. Such a shame that in the last few years she lost her voice due to a degenerative brain condition.
