To avoid noticing how thick the ribbing is on the sides of the camper body ,and they are THICK, detailing it with color stripes does wonders. That and the truck
rusty spots and roof details on the top really helps in improving this model. Well done Danny!

A very excellent custom restoration. The amount of work to make it look in urgent need of restoration was a real eye opener. I would normally have no time for a rusty heap of bolts but the work is so skillfully executed that I think it looks very appealing. Full of great ideas and creativity. Keep up the good work.

Really nice model. I was not aware Matchbox made a version of the Courier, let alone one with s camper.
So the Courier was basically a rebadged Mazda. If you are not familiar the Mazda is about the same size as a Toyota Hilux. The camper "mod" is not a mod but a slide in unit that usually just sits in the back and is not permanently attached. They typically made these campers to fit in 3/4 ton pickups. A half ton pickup is usually not strong enough to carry a "slide in" as we like to call them here in the states. They did make these for mini trucks but they were made very light and stripped of ammenities so it did not overburden the truck.

Very nice customizing, with i think a little to much rust on the car. The camper looks great with all the details, additional stuff, the roofrack and of course the windows! With them the camper look so much better. Now you need a little "Camping-Diorama" ! somewhere in the forests or desertplains of the USA.

I just noticed that you happen to paint the stripe over the spare tire unfortunately.
You _could_ say that it had a $299.99 MAACO paint job, done sometime in the early 90s, and they over sprayed.
However Grandpa liked it so much that he kept it, cuz a little lipstick on a pig don't hurt none...

One rather important piece to note for this style of bed camper would be for crank Jack's on each corner of the box, that raised the bed while the truck slides in it, that you could add using toothpick or gauge wire bar, there could even be one missing because Grandpa never took it out once he put it in the truck.
also the rear axles could be bent upwards slightly to simulate the heavy load on the bed, as was common with large camper boxes meant for full size trucks placed on compact Imports.

Cut it off down to about 2mm and then use a bastard file to cleanly remove the rest, then put tape on the inside of the roof and fill the hole with JB Weld or Steel Putty, then sand off smooth when dry. It isn't perfect, but with a good coat of primer it will turn out 98%. Your best bet is to start out with a Mazda Repu truck, and avoid this casting altogether. 😄
