Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest - Battle 2 (metal remix)

- One out of two down, and one I'm really happy with too. Next up is Sting Chameleon for those of you who've been waiting for it. Felt appropriate with all the Terminal Montage fans running around here lately!
I'm going to try to calm down and work on other things before I run out of vacation time, especielly considering I've placed a hunk-a-junk car in the company garage while everyone's on vacation that definitely can't still be there when people get back. I'll still push for one more release before I get back to work though, but that definitely won't be this month.

The people who hate on Mystic Quest never played it, how could one look at the rapper goblins and dislike the game?
Right? This game was my childhood
Was it as good as ff4 or ff6? No, was it still an amazing game with badass music? Absolutely
@@shad0ws0rr0w86 As good as ff6 no, but as good as ff4? Yeah, better even.
Mystic Quest is, in my opinion, the perfect game to ease someone who's never played a JRPG into the genre.
Let's not forget beating on Shadow...
This game has possibly some of the best battle tunes ever made for RPGs. They were soooo metal. All three of the battle themes are just that good.
HYPE!!!
Holy fucking shit its The 8bit Drummer
@@The8BitDrummer drum cover coming up?
TH-cam didn't even exist when I last played this game and heard this theme. Now, 30 years later, it popped into my head, so I searched for it. MY GOD! Such a masterpiece! That's so well done; I instantly got tears in my eyes.
not even the slightest nostalgia,... you sure got 30?
@@blacklabel130 Oui el cave! En passant "got tears in my eyes" = expression de nostalgie, épas! Contente d'être célibataire, a voir le genre de troll caves qu'on a comme hommes au Québec de nos jours.
Same thing happened to me when I built my first PC. Right away started looking up video game music covers
The game was simple, but thr sountrack went HARD AF!
your music and musicality are amazing! keep doing what you do, brother bear! I came here originally for the MMX music a couple years back, but everything on your channel is just dripping with talent!
This song is a huge part of my childhood. I remember sitting down with my best friend and hitting the final boss so hard we healed it. Of course we would start the fight just to let this music play. Hearing it like this brings it to life.
Holy shit someone actually made this, I didn't think people even cared about this game enough to make music remixes lol
There's more ppl than you think that love this game 😊
Ah yes, a song so great it was held back by its SNES origin. Now I can finally say I've heard it at its full potential!
SMcK is full potential.
Maybe one day we will get a remaster or remake but a man can only dream
This theme always made ME feel like the boss, and the enemies had to beat me. 12 year old me never forgot this. This remix is fantastic.
This is such a great remix. Hits you like a damn truck it goes so hard 🤘
Really feeling blessed with all these awesome remixes lately ! I could already keep listening to this one for ages, so don't worry about keeping time for yourself
Also...
STING CHAMELEON !!!
I keep listening to this on loop. Such an amazing rendition, especially that finale!
Beating every enemy and beating every battle ground became like a thing you had to do
A rare remix where I like the remix even more than the original! In fact, this may be the first time I've ever liked the remix more!
Been listening to your stuff for a bit and you never fail to impress. These reimagined remixes are great! Keep it going!
What a surprise banger out of nowhere. Amazing job!
It's so awesome to see one of my favorite video game tracks to be remixed to it's full potential, and I'd never would have imagined that the talented Stone Mcknuckle would do it. It's a pleasure this song graced my ears
Oh man I was just talking about this song the other day with my friend and then I found this version... Chef's kiss*. Thanks for making this.
I’m so glad someone made this. I’ve listened to the soundtrack to the game so many times and thought man, I would love to hear these songs played out on actual instruments.
MAXIMOOO POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODER !!
sacré bob lenon !!
Les boss qui se font - il n'y a d'autres mots - INFINISEEEEER
j'suis un poil triste qu'il ai finis le jeu.
Ces passage de baston tellement craqué du cul quand il en avait ras le bol .
Would love to hear an extended version of this
Most legendary version of this masterpiece!
Thanks Stone. This made my night, and looking fwd to that Sting Chameleon rendition! Cheers to you.
I was like "Ok this is crazy. I need to sub." then realized that this has happened before - I am already subbed!
First time I ever felt like "hitting the bell icon" is long overdue.
MAXIMO PODERE!!!!!
@Lonk Mc Fly yup, la pénélopolice est là.
This game had such good music. Thank you for this.
A beautiful gem from the past, great version
Fantastic. Thank you for making this.
Hooooo that intro into the song is AMAZING. Man I'm so glad MQ still gets love. It is SUCH a killer soundtrack. One of the best.
This was one of my favorite games growing up. The song popped up and I felt a wave of nostalgia wash over me. This jam is even tastier than the original. Well done/
I spent hours on this game growing up, beating every battle ground and every monster became a mission 💪
Even though he only work on 5 games while at square back in the day, Ruyji Sasai knew how to rock. despite it's much derided position, MQ knew how to bring intensity to every encounter ;and this is just something that feels so natural for you to mix in hindsight, just taking it to 11 Stone. Now i need to hear battle 1, doom castle and battle 3 from ya. Keep on rocking stone
P.s Terminal montage should've used your mix for spark mandrill, it would have melted faces off.
preach it bro
I might do more from this soundtrack but there are like 3 good arranges of battle 1 already :I
Jesus Christ, can't stop listening. These synths are f****ng amazing.
This song slaps so fucking hard
My favorite Final Fantasy. It's how i discovered the series as a kid in SNES. Screw haters.
@KungFuAndrewTV The game isn't garbage at all, especially compared to the SNES standards. Play Mystic Quest and FF4 back to back: MQ has better gameplay, better writing, obviously better music, and is much harder. Still easy, but you could play FF4 blindfolded and mash A from start to finish.
@KungFuAndrewTV Both MQ and FF4 give us the same old tired "crystals of the elements" story, but MQ adds humor. FF4 adds more tropes. So yeah, personally, I prefer Mystic Quest's story, but I can concede that others would see it differently.
What I can't really concede is how everyone says MQ is FF on training wheels. I think my only challenge on FF4 was against Asura, and that's because I forgot white magic existed since I never needed to heal before. MQ killed me at least once on every boss except the final one, who as we all know, is allergic to cure.
my gamertag is literally from this game and I've used it ever since then and I'm now 39 years old :)
You never forget your first. ;) Mine was Final Fantasy VI, and that's still my favorite, too. :)
Absolutely amazing!
God I loved playing this game back when I was small. Absolute fire.
This should definitely be looped and extended to about 10 minutes of rock-hard awesome.
This track slams hard.
Dude we must've had the same childhood cos you remix like all my favourite old game songs, and do it so dang spicy I love it
This freakin remix is SWEET. You remember that feeling back when you were a kid, playing something really intense, and your hands would sweat and heart would pound? This is that feeling in music form. 11/10
God this is INSANELY good.
this rocks on so many levels, can't get enough of it
Soo much yes! You are doing a wonderful job in remaking these. This one in particular is just wonderful as it, in my opinion, lets me relive the feeling I had when I turned on my *borrowed* SNES console and played this for hours on end.
As much as I adore your work, how the devil did I miss this gem till now!?
IT WAS JUST MYSTIC QUEST, TIM!
Man... that piano intro. Excellent job!
Let's fucking go !! I found out about that remix yesterday on a marathon about FF12 and that one superboss with 50 millions HPs. (Or was it 51 ? Can't remember).
Nevertheless, this composition is amazing, the tension, the solos, the beat ?! And that 01:52 ARGGGGGh I just can't.
You really did a good job !
Sting Chamaeleon up next!?!?!
Legendary just as the game was itself.
This goes so hard.
Another great remix as always
So glad you've done this, and honestly surprised you hadn't done it sooner. Will now be listening to this on repeat for the next week.
Edit: added a missing word
So so so good.
Thanks again for the great remix, just in time for my next workout :).
Nah really i always listen to your remixes while doing cardio it's amazingly inspirationnal.
This is the part of the metal show where everyone screams, "Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit!" because uh...holy shit. So happy you got to Mystic Quest. I'd love to hear your cover of the final boss theme.
I hold my breath so many times during this song it's just unreal. Gave me chills the entire time. What an incredible remix, congratulations!
Absolute banger of an amazing song
really love all of this songs you have made
Love this! Great job!
I guess good boss music is something we can always count on from Final Fantasy.
Even Mystic Quest.
This is some top tier work
I most certainly didn't expect this intro.... The ass kicking afterwards was fully expected though ahah. Very nice remix. Looking forward to your rendition of Sting chameleon !
For as bad of a reputation this game has, I personally love it, and think the soundtrack was damn fire, but holy shit is this version some next level bad assery!
It got a bad reputation due to fans wanting a new final fantasy game but they got this instead.. So it was babies having a fit. The game itself is no where near as bad as those people claimed.
@@UndyingZombie I gotta say, I enjoyed the out of combat puzzle solving and needing certain weapons to progress. Outside of Secret of Mana or Breath of Fire, you never really saw anything like that. And games like the Wild Arms series really seem like they took some inspiration from it.
I loved mystic quest it's one of the earliest rpg i remember playing i replayed it a year ago and still enjoyed it , it really doesn't deserve the hate it gets and although it's not entirely difficult its still some what more difficult than games today towards the end i loved the ost and simplicity of it
I appreciate that this game, though it arguably linear in gameplay, is still well respected for its strong point...
THIS DAMN ROCKIN MUSIC
I wonder how much playing that game at 8 years old influenced my music tastes through life. That would have probably been the first time I listened to anything you would consider metal.
Have an older sister and her boyfriend played and recorded the whole symphony of destruction album for me when it came out, I was 8, and It was fucking awesome.
Stone mcknuckle Epic cover, awesome.
Wow - loved the original, and this seriously takes things to the next level!
There are certain dreams in life that, in pursuing them, failure to achieve their realization is preferable to successes in other avenues of life. This is one such dream for me. One day, Stone McKnuckle, the greatest youtube underground remixer ever to grace the internet, will remix the soundtrack of Shadow of the Beast Games. I will not give up. McKnuckle... if you don't hear from me about once in six months or so, know that I'm dead.
An amazing mix of my favorite tune from FFMQ. Thank you very much for this.
This has some of the best music for such a simple FF game. I actually re-reviewd this like a year ago and still loved the music!
Really badass remix. The keyboards/synth also give me a major Valkyrie Profile vibe, double the enjoyment.
Really enjoyed this remix. Especially like the 10 to 100 speedup at 0:16 - 0:21
Keep up the good work!
great!! from Japan
Thank you for doing this......god I have waited for some to cover this song the right way. Now if we can get a remix of the Volcano theme and Doom King ......hint hint...
Man, I love the Mystic Quest soundtrack, same person who did Treasure of the Rudras. Really wish that person did more OST's for video games for they were awesome at it.
Yeah, I really like Sasai's work. I might do some stuff from Rudra no Hihou at some point as well.
-"SUPLEX SUPLEX SUPLEX SUPLEX SUPLEX!!! SUPLEX EVERYTHING!!!"
~Joel, Vargskelethor
:::Sabin Figaro enters the chat::: Suplex you say?
Yo this shit is absolute fire
Even though Mystic Quest is rated as one of the worst FF games, I still enjoyed it. Makes me want to dust off that old emulator and play it again.
The game is bad, but the songs are good.
You are amazing Man, please keep up the great work!!!!
I love this channel
Fucking banger, i love it.
What a banger. This game was awesome just bu music alone.
Dang, beat me to the punch, lol. Been wanting to do a cover of a few Mystic Quest tracks for some time, this one definitely high up on the list. Pretty dope rendition though. I like the use of the synth for the lead(s) too, almost sounds more like a Megaman X track the way you arranged it, which is awesome because Megaman X has some pretty killer tunes. Anyway, keep up the great work, my dude!
Hey, thanks. I sometimes skip certain songs as well if great arranges or covers already exist in similar styles to mine, but our styles are very different so at least that's something. :>
@@StoneMcKnuckle Oh yeah, I feel ya'. No sense doing something the same way as someone else. And we do follow similar genre taste, but we do definitely bring something different to the table, so at least there's no fear of sounding too similar, lol.
Damn, glad I found this channel.
Snake Man's theme would really be a badass addition to your kickass remixes. Man I wanna hear your rendition so bad !!
never before have I needed something so much and not known until I received it
Stunning Rendition...
ANOTHA SPECTACULAH VIDEO, KEEP EM COMIN BOSS
Oh hell yes, mystic quest had such an underrated ost. Gotta add this in there, ever think of doing breathe of fire 3's battle theme? Not many remixes of that floating around.
I've played it, but I'm not a huge fan of the soundtrack and arranging tracks from it would probably be a challenge. Daisuke Achiwa has a lot of stuff in similar style, and I freakin' love his soundtracks so something from Mana Khemia would be a much more likely pick.
Difficult stuff to arrange though. :p
@@StoneMcKnuckle Yeah extremely complex sound styles almost to a jazzy tune. Very unique and very memorable.
HNNNNNNG one of my favorite boss themes of all time.
This is really good; thank you
ryuji sasai is a king. thanks for the sick arrange
Mystic Quest had some of the best music. It is such a shame that they treated us like 4 year olds when deciding to bring it over thinking rpgs were to hard for us.
Mystic quest was one of the most underrated final fantasy games
The Gaming environment was a lot different back then. Games that were too hard or too long often didn't reach as wide a market globally than they might've in Japan. This was a time video games were seen as little more than toys and were treated as such. After all, there's a reason Mario is the face of video game culture.
@@MrCrunchytime Except that final fantasy 1 was a massive success, and was a tough game back in the day. Not to mention ff2(snes version but is actually ff4) was also huge, and we all know how popular ff6 is.
@PiEiNtHeFaCe22 You're skipping the part where the REAL FF2 didn't release in the US, nor did 3 and 5, and that FF4 was nerfed into the ground for it's NA release. You're also missing the part where Dragon Quest was renamed and several of those didn't make it stateside.
You're going to need to do better than list a couple of exceptions to make an argument.
@@MrCrunchytime I did note that ff2 on snes was 4. I don't know how you skipped over that, and I know it was made easier. Doesn't change the fact that people loved the game, and doesn't change the fact that people of the west enjoyed the rpg genre. FF1 was a hard game, and was one of Squares best selling ff games ever. Dragon warrior while did sell well in the US. Didn't get 2 or 3 brought over which again is the mindset of the west thinking it wouldn't sell well even though they were vastly better than the first game, and when they did come over ported to other consoles they sold very well.
Nothing of note that you said changes what I said that it was just the mind set of the west thinking the east wouldn't like the genre. Which when they actually began pushing to the west were proven wrong. That the east loved genre.
This is great!
Would be nice to see ur music on spotify I it would def go right into my playlist
THE BASS SOLO
God bless you. No words. Too awesome!
Hi Stone. Could you apply your awesome remix treatment to Snake Man from MM3 too? And pls don't ever stop this awesomeness 🤗😉👍
Yeah, I wanna do a bunch of stuff from the older MM games so I'm sure it'll happen eventually.
Fuuuuck this is so raw. I love it! My childhood!
love the intro
