There is no easy way for an artist but hard work and a lot of work and I would say if your work is easily excepted it is just as easily rejected. Thank you for your honesty and integrity
Well said and spot on! Great advice, especially at the very beginning where Tim says create what truly moves you...from an artist who has painted full time for 25 years...
I am a senior visual artist trying to roll back 30 years and reenter the art Circus..but location where that can happen is critical..we still the critical support that is so critical..Vincent van Gogh, was very helpful to have a great supportive brother..personally moving out of New York to Arizona was not very helpful, but here I am .
Awesome...thank you for this info, because this helps us artists make a stand for our work...I paint because I love it, I don't paint to be noticed or for the market..it is my passion to create.
good point on the best galleries being artist led. laura i art gallery popped up on my radar a while ago as they were seeking new artist representation. but when you go to their website, its really hard to actually find their artists...you have to hover over 'about us' and artists are listed LAST ffs, after the team and mission statement. as though the artists are an afterthought rather than the reason the entire thing exists.
I was meant to hear this, thank you. My paintings come from my heart and I have struggled thinking my work is not what people want, but when I tried to change my style to one I thought would sell better, I couldn’t do it. I didn’t feel excited about it. 😘
I am a new artist, but love a certain style and am trying to achieve that style. I doubt i ever become good enough to be noticed by anyone, and that's okay. As long as I can make paintings I am happy with, I will be happy enough.
Great guy great documentary maker if you can find his work on the tube and he's right paint honestly and work hard and it will Tell in the TILL. Dead or alive nature will have a space for you .But there's no defining moment of being discovered that's fantasy land. Its slow burn paint for 40years and it starts. And location location location.London is not the silver bullet unless your Giacometti or doig .
My friend found a art galery for me and my friend talked to the people there about my artworks! And he said that they are able to sell artworks! So I might have a good chance for me to sell my Artworks! And that means I would become a full time Artist! 😃 and Next Saturday is when my friend will take me to meet the Artist and talk about maybe selling my artworks at the Artist Art gallery! Iam currently working on 3 murals paintings to bring next Saturday but iam also bring my portfolio
If you think its bad in USA its much worse in Canada. Art appreciation is taught from grade 1-12 in Europe but not Canada and US its taught as frivolous cause its the first courses cut when money is tight in a school..
hi Tim, I am a sr artist and looking to work with Galleries that agree to align with me. I work mainly in digital domain and my canvasses are large, can print on paper and canvass. How can you help ?
@@gavinreid5387 I would not put Gauguin in the same category as Duchamp and Warhol...they were "hampartistas. Gaugain was a truly talented artist which is why his art still holds up today whereas Duchamp and Warhol have become played out, gimicky and endlessly replicated.

Art is only for the elite society!!! PERIOD!!! Only those who have enourmous talent will make it in the art world!!! It doenst matter if she or he is educated, work as a shit cleaner in a hotel, it doesnt matter if the artist work as a bus driver!!! ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE REAL TALENT WILL BE NOTICED AND WILL BE IN THE BEST GALLERIES OF THE WORLD, the rest of artist with medicree talent will end up TEACHING in Univesrities, public schools, kindergarttens, making presentations, etc.
Hi! I am here to tell you I am not in the top galleries of the world at this point 🙃 but I do make a living of my art. If I had followed your thinking process, I’d still be designing marketing materials for some company. You can only achieve what you set your mind to believe 😌

As usual Mr. Marlowe is eloquent, straight to the point, without frivolity or self-serving references. very informative, thanks.
THE BEST advice, wherever I heard. THANK YOU MR. MARLOW
Totally agree after 17 years as a galleriest in Coconut Grove/ Miami. Windisch-Hunt Fine Art

wonderful , professional , honest message .
This is the most straight forward interview that I’ve seen on the subject. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

Well stated! This is a man I believe I could trust ~ and I don’t say that about everyone.

Unfortunately a whole generation of British and U.S artists have made lucrative careers on very little ability and massive talents in self-promotion.
seems to be only about that these days, esp w/ social media. - as fake as celebrity culture itself.
The same accusation was made about Gaugain. Could also be said about Duchamp and Warhol. Nothing new.
