50 Years of Naim! NAIT 50 - NAIT 1 - NAIT XS2 - Two Nerds on a Couch

  • We have the beautiful Naim NAIT 50 in our listening room. But that is not all! We also have the NAIT 1! Yes... the first integrated amp, made by Naim Audio. And the one that is 'revived' for the NAIT 50... But we don't stop there. We also have the NAIT XS2.
    We wanted to compare these three important amps to see what Naim is all about. Where did it start? What made them tick? And what changed in 50 years of audio production?

    I still have my NAIT 1 that I bought in 1983. Recently had it serviced by Class A Audio in Sheffield (NAIM approved & parts) and it sings like new - driving my 1983 Linn Kans really well - and makes me smile!! An icon of the ages!!

    Nice suggestion from Jaap to Naim,to basically copy Cyrus in the separates with the same form factor😁 Bdw,another great video!

    Nice video! I tend to think that Naim changing the color of the led is a tradition. First it was red, then green and now it's white.

      Change the LED to any colour, even red or green, and cut down the brightness with LED lens covers made for guitar effects pedals.

    They sound great - good performance ...but... and it's a big BUT... I hate the 1950's interconnects and the lack of available inputs. Value is a big problem too... the 50 is £800 too steep - similar class from, for 1 example, and there are others, Muiscal Fidelity and you have a huge range of inputs - great damping factor, full dynamics. The NAIT 50 has a lot of competition.

    I think Julian will still prefer NAIT 1 :D

    Hi. Thank you for your videos. We learn a lot from you. Currently I own the new Naim 200 series trio: NSC 222, NAP250 and NPX300. For a 4x8 meter room with 2.5meter height which loudspeakers do you recommend for jazz, soft rock and classical listening? Some acoustical treatment in the ceiling and walls (not overdamped).

      Completely depends on your budget. And so you want floor standing speakers? Bookshelf? Etc...

      I’m looking for a 10,000 euros bookshelf speakers. I have 2 Rel’s T9i available if necessary.

      @@miltonballester1826 Check Kudos or perhaps some Paradigms. They combine very nicely with Naim. At least: I think so.

    I understand that there wasn't a "Four" as that is an unlucky number in Asia (or parts of Asia). Sales would have been adversely affected.

    There's no DR tech in Nait 50. It simply wasn't room for it.

    Another Cool Video Guys. Im looking to upgrade amps soon and have been thinking about the Naim XS 3 or a Hegel H120 do you think either of these will be a decent upgrade from my current Roksan Kandy K3? Im also considering 2nd hand Supernait 2 or Hegel H190. Thanks

    • @jmtennapel
      @jmtennapel ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on what you are looking for. More detail? Tighter bass control? I never heard the Roksan K3, so it is hard to compare. The difference between XS and SuperNait series has always been that the XS series is a bit more light hearted and agile, and the SuperNait's have more grip and slam, but they also sound a bit more serious. Hegel I'm not that familiar with, I always found them a bit on the dry side for my taste. Lots of control though. I certainly would recommend to audition the new Moon 250i V2 as well, since it is in the same price bracket as the Naim XS3.
