Aside from the campaign there were "Ace Pilot" missions which focus on one character from the series, and tells their story. This video is all about the lesser known Johnny Ridden, the Crimson Lightning. "That mobile suit.. is that the Red Comet?" "What? I'm the Crimson Lightning, Johnny Ridden, remember that!"

One of the best things about MSV characters is that they have so many different interpretations to their character.
In MSV Side Story: Johnny Ridden is quite different from this depiction, the reason for why he rushed into battle at his first outing, is not because he wanted to make a name for himself, it's actually intentionally get himself injured so that he could retire as a soldier, since he absolutely hated the Zabis and only "joined" the military because his dad signed up for him. Turns out, he's just too good at piloting to even get hit and ended up taking down several ships alone. He later on painted his Zaku red so that he'd be even more noticeable and more people who directly aim for him, this STILL didn't work. Later on, during a party held by Kycilia Zabi, Johnny saw Char and began conversing with him. By that I mean he loudly insulted the Zabi family, assumed that Char is the same as him and hated the Zabi family thus painted his suit red to get shot down and then got dragged out of the party. What worse is that the entire thing was caught on tape. Luckily, Kycilia bailed him out(because Johnny's under her forces) and had her goons edit him out of the tape. This is also the only time the two have met face to face (in this canon at least). Skipping to the end of the war at A Baoa Qu, Johnny went into battle on his Gelgoog against the Full Armor Gundam(MSV version, not the Thunderbolt version of course) where he severed too much damage and was forced to retreat. After landing on a ship, Johnny found out that his love was on the same ship and if he don't do anything about the Full Armor everyone on the ship including his love would perish. So for the last time ever, Johnny Ridden went out on his old High Mobility Zaku (now fully armed with a whole bunch of weapons and nicknamed the Full Bullet Zaku in order to mock the Full Armor Gundam) and took the opposing Gundam down. However, the damage that the Zaku suffered was too much and he was unable to return to any ship or even send out a rescue beacon. Ultimately, Johnny Ridden is marked as Missing in Action despite all protocol stating that he should've been marked as KiA. Why? Because he's Johnny Ridden, and there's no God damn way that he'll die that easily.
That's actually pretty cool. I did not know any of that. I love the Gundam universe, because there's so many stories unbeknownst to most people who only watch the anime. (Like myself lol)
@@HonestPug Yeah, there's also Johnny Ridden's return which follows an amnesiac who is probably not Johnny and tells an alternative version of the story which heavily features the Chimera Corps, a team of MS Pilot which only consists of Ace pilots (the first Johnny Ridden manga didn't say anything about that because I didn't exist yet lol). Return is generally considered as the correct canon of Johnny's story.
Both manga are translated and could be found on Mangadex if you're interested in them.
Personally I prefer the version in Side Story, he's just a massive goof ball who is too good at piloting for his own good.
Reminds me of a certain cowardly yet heroic commissar from the 40k universe.

Zeon had many Ace skill pilot with worthless MS,and Federation had many Gundam and High Performance MS with useless pilot.
and when zeon start mass producing high performance MS (gelgoog), their ace pilots had already massacred by amuro. this made them place rookie on gelgoog
Granted at his prime Amuro was an unstoppable beast, in a gundam or otherwise

I think from zeta onwards, Amuro had earned his status as the best pilot the EFSF had ever seen. He was doing it all in Nemo’s and his Dijeh/Rick Dijeh after all

This is hands down the best space engine Gundam games have ever know and it’s so infuriating that they haven’t used it ever again. All they do now is port the arcade games and those are just twitch reflex arena fighters. They need to take this system and take the ground fighting from either the PS4 game (not the one imported to the west but the one with the two faction story line). Then they need to just throw suits in from EVERY show. Or at least leave it up to dlc over time.

I wish I could go back to this game. It was fun and I loved it more than the other gundam game's.
This is by far the best Gundam game I've played. I downloaded all of the games they made for PS2, and they were all janky and frustrating to play compared to this one.
Yeah i loved playing this one. Collecting all the suits was fun too.
My favorite is maxi boost on but I love these old ones too

I don't mind that he had a crush on Kycilia but i still considering his later adventures with the Marbled Lycan.

Its fun to see named characters actually meet in battle ... Bernard Monsha (from Gundam 0083) was the Federation Pilot taunting Ridden here
I really liked this game... the ONLY 2 complaints i have with this game are: a) moving around the battlefield feels extremely clunky. Using thrusters doesnt feel like its propelling your MS forward... and melee-ing can also get clunky. b) However, once you get the hang of the game, it gets too easy in the end game. Just hang back and multi-shot spam and you're pretty much ok .
But I DO love the MSV chars.... this was my introduction to many of them, including my favorites Johnny Ridden and Shin Matsunaga... also, designing your own pilot is also fun. I made a Federation pilot that has Newtype 3, MA Pilot Expert, and that skill which gives higher buffs the lower the cost of your machine is. Its fun using a Core Booster or even a Saberfish to wipe out enemies with a pilot like that XD
Btw i notice you don't "re-destroy" warships. After taking down a ship, shoot it a bit more until it starts to explode and disappear. You get more points that way (which makes ranks easier to get)

Not quite, rather it’s multiple interperetations of him. This one is different from his Battlefield Records version whom is again different from his Return of Johnny Ridden version
