I’ve always thought love triangles would be more complicated but intresting if it was actually a triangle. As in Person A loves Person B but Person B loves person C but person C loves person A. These are just love corners
I feel like a lot of love triangles have an ‘obvious’ answer. Like I think it was fairly obvious that Bella would end up with Edward, or in K-Dramas like Business Proposal where the female lead ends up with Kang Tae Moo instead of the chef she was crushing on. In my experience, a lot of love triangles are simply filler and don’t contribute to the overall story too well because so many of them just go with the first option.
Truuee. Although, a love triangle that I did not see coming was the one in dream high where I expected the girl to end up with the guy we get invested in initially but it turns out to be the other one

If you haven't seen the anime "Toradora!" I highly recommend it. i would NOT want to be in the center of a love triangle. i already feel immense guilt when i can't even choose between two love interests in a video game. since i already feel this way over some damn pixels, i'd rather not be in the same situation with two people with real feelings, especially because i'd have to break one (or both) of their hearts at the end if polyamory isn't an option for us. why can't everyone just be in love with each other and call it a day?

an interesting idea for a love triangle would be to have two guy fighting over a girl who doesn't really want to be with either of them and is afraid to say no because she has a terrible people pleaser complex. she then leaves them both learning to love herself and the two guys realize they were more motivated by the other guy then the girl and go through their own journey of learning boundaries when dating.
Straight love "triangles" aren't even triangles, they're just love corners. But I really like actual love triangles where it's like: A and B both like C and they become rivals to try to win C's heart but C can't decide who to choose because they're in love with both so it goes on for a long time and because of it, A and B end up spending a lot of time together as rivals and eventually fall for each other but they're also confused because they haven't stopped loving C either... So then somehow A and B end up confessing to each other, then they realize they both also want to be with C so they come up with a plan and confess to C but they're kind of worried that C will find it weird that they're already in a relationship with each other, but C is just like "omg literally all i ever wanted" and they all end up in a poly relationship, happy end lmao. That works well with an "idiots in love" type of funny story and "A loves B who loves C who loves A" works well for unrequited love type of sad stories.
Love triangles are okay, but exhausting, the main character seems to never make up their mind, at least the ones I've seen. And I can't even imagine two people liking me at once, let alone one person, so the idea of love triangles seem fictional to me
and it's usually a girl in the centre,bc the author has to build up both potential love interests she does not give the main girl any personality at all 💀
i love how most love triangles aren't even love triangles, they're love angles. In order to have a love triangle option a and b have to like eachother a bit as well, therefore LOVE TRIANGLES HAVE TO BE A BIT GAY OR THEY'RE LOVE ANGLES
This is exactly what's going on in My Dear Loser Edge of 17 from gmmtv (available here in yb), guy a in love with guy b, guy b has a crush in girl and girl have crush in guy a, complicated hahahaha
another thing i noticed (specifically in webtoons) is whenever there's a love triangle with 2 men going after 1 woman, both of these men are adored and loved and people feel bad when one of them doesn't get the girl even when he has history of doing questionable things but whenever there's a love triangle with 1 man and 2 women....the 2nd lead girl is ALWAYS coined as "trashta" and a "bvtch" and is "ruining the main couple" and need to "gtfo" even if she did absolutely nothing wrong 💀 i'm not even exaggerating, this webtoon i read and 2nd male lead set the female lead's house ON FIRE and she ended up unconscious for a month and all top comments were "aww he doesn't know he loves her yet" "hope she falls in love with him" and then there was literally just a girl who had a crush on male lead and the most she did was make female lead drink a spicy tea and the comments dragged her to the depths of hell istg-
yeah! i'm tired of that 'cause literally ALL the "rivals" on those webtoons are so demonized by both the artist and the readers, sometimes they don't do much and are already the top villain who deserves to die while the men get a pass about every. single. bad action they have! it's frustrating and more often i find myself rooting more for the 2nd/3rd girl instead of the main girl because i just want some justice. talk about some misogyny
Probably because readers see themselves as the main lead. In the first case, they see it as two guys fawning over the main lead/them. While in the second case, it is a full on rivalry, with misogny thrown into the mix.
Ive always hated love triangles, I think I prefer to always know who is endgame and to just focus on their relationship developing rather than on 2 people fighting over one person. Typically they’re both good people, so at the end of a love triangle someone is always heartbroken, and I feel bad for the person who isn’t chosen, so it makes it hard for me to sit through them. **Edit:Reading these comments, its**- interesting to see how other people view love triangles though because i always avoid them. They made me think about love triangles differently, but I will still probably continue avoiding them to save myself from crying over the loser lol
Same, I tend to avoid watching a show that has a love triangle cause it's unnecessary heartbreak for one person while the main leads "run off into the sunset"
Yeah and the one choosing between them doesn’t love either of the love interests as much as they love them or they wouldn’t have to choose. I’d way rather have the love interests be equally in love with each other.
Love alarm had a GREAT love triangle. It really had me going "what." When I finished the k-drama, I was in shock. I also agree with Nevertheless...I paused that show every 3 minutes just to say "NA-BI STOP. STOP RIGHT NOW."
@@dawnidk I read it back when it was first released on webtoon so I don't remember the details but she didn't end up with the toxic dude. She knew he was toxic and like the title nevertheless couldn't help but be attracted to him. at one point she realized that she herself exhibited toxic traits and was attracted to toxic. like yknow after being out of a toxic back and forth kinda relationship, it's hard to accept a vanilla healthy relationship kinda thing. she realized she was also messed up on the inside (cough mommy issues) so then slowly started to come out of it. the ending is an open end with us being led to believe that she'll end up with that cute dude from her hometown who is actually good for her. or not, maybe. sorry for the text dump, overall i would say it's a decent read with a few nuanced sentiments.
Me before seeing the video: ""I'll pass this time, I couldn't care less about love triangles. But wait, Emily is always fun to watch." I have not been let down. This was soooo entertaining.
Wow Love triangle IN REAL LIFE!! since ur bored can u talk more about it? cuz I actually agree w u that Love triangle must be so stressful and tiring like I cant even believe one person like me and have a crush on me let alone TWO REAL PLL like ahh also it doesn’t help that im so indecisive all the damn time even about little things like were to go or what to eat lmao so I dont never want to be in this type of situation irl

@@tonylex3760 Usually it’s one dude and 2 girls. They make the girls cat fight normally and one of the girls is always super bitchy for no reason, fighting over an avg guy with a shit personality. In the case of gay triangles: 2 dudes and a girl, the girl is straight up evil. And when it’s 3 girls, it’s even more toxic.
I hate, hate, hate, hate, Hate, Hate,HATE love triangles, It always breaks my heart to see either one of the "rivals" lose, like the center of the attention HAS to choose someone already so that the one who would lose will not be that hurt, but noooooo... They have to drag it out for so long that the only thing that ces out of them choosing someone else is negative, sigh... Now that I have vented my frustrations for love triangles, I am still disgusted by love triangles
What I hate about a lot of YA love triangles is that, instead of the girl (for it is usually a girl) making an organic choice between her two suitors, the choice is made for her, because one of the suitors will die, turn out to be evil, or do something that causes them to be ostracized. - By the way, Emily, the funeral skit was great, but MY GOD, WOMAN! Follow the 180º rule! 🤣
I love the love triangles that aren’t actually love triangles. FOR EXAMPLE: two characters that love each other but have a falling out and then one of them becomes friends with someone else and the first person is SUPER JEALOUS (taken from a real storyline in critical role-Imogen and Laudna)
love triangles are love bent lines and no one can convince me otherwise. on another note if you want an actual triangle 'iron widow' has a main poly relationship that's pretty cool
This may not be related to the video as much but ill say it because I love the Hunger Games. I absolutely hate how much the marketing of the movie became about the love triangle when the story is so much more than that. It's about a revolution, trauma, war, unfair circumstances and still finding peace through it. AND SUDDENLY, its all peeta vs gale. Sure, that was a small subplot. But it's very clearly explained at the end of the book why Katniss loves Peeta (gale wasn't even an oPTION). thank you for coming to my rant lol (great video emily!)
For me personally, Love Triangles have kinda lived out their time. I can't help but roll my eyes or sigh when there is a Love Triangle trope inserted in something I'm watching. I like more realistic problems to shake up a not-yet-really-established relationship to make a show interesting and fun to watch, like one character overthinking and distancing themselves even though they don't want to (like in Heartstopper for example). I have actually experienced being the 'main character' in a Love Triangle more than once and it's never as fun as romantic dramas make it out to be lol Someone will inevitably get hurt, many times it'll be all three people involved🙃
I was the exact same way with Nevertheless. Throughout the whole show I wanted to smash Jae-eon in the face every time he smiled. Soljiwan should have been the main leads for sure. I try to avoid love triangle shows as much as possible.
I just realized I didn't even know there was a love triangle in nevertheless because 90% of the time I just skipped it to the wlw couple (in my defense, I wasn't at all interested in the main couple's storyline and the side couple was super cute so I decided to solely stick to the show for them)
i think another weird factor is the idea that the main character can only make one choice. yeah, we live in a world that prioritizes monogomy and stigmatizes polyamory but how come barely any of these protagonists even see multiple partners as an option
Love triangles in real life are extremely uncomfortable, I was in one and it was very very distressing for me. The thought of having to choose and the pressure of forcing yourself to figure it out before it gets too late and somebody seriously gets hurt. Plus the dooming thought of hypothetically hurting two people who are investing their time and their affection on you!!!!!! It was borderline suffocating and it made me very stressed. Not recommending it at all lol
my opinion is that love triangles stress me out and I don't need any more stress :') and a lot of the time the person who has to pick starts to look like the dumbest person ever and you end up like "why are they even fighting over this person? they should just move on"
The way I was also thinking of nevertheless when you said it pissed you off lmaoooo. Jae-eon literally saw a butterfly one day and made it his entire personality 😭
Just would like to say, I’ve been subscribed to Emily for at least a year and a half, and just like three days ago I started following her Twitter and that’s how I found out she wasn’t straight? So I started going back to her old videos and I can’t believe I ever thought she was straight? Like wow, I’m as oblivious as some of these characters that she describes
a love triangle would kill me regardless if where i stood. if i was one of the interests or if i was the main character. the guilt i would feel with leading two people on is enough to throw me off. but then the idea of being one of the people led on is also shit. even if im chosen in the end, the fact that there was somebody else who was led on doesnt sit right with me.
One love triangle that fits the story line is from a webcomic called "Sirens Lament," where Lyra and Ian become half-human half-siren. Once you become siren you pretty much lose human emotions. So as Lyra is becoming more siren (bc she started human), Ian is becoming more human (bc he started as a siren). This is important. Lyra has feelings for her childhood friend, Shon (who also likes her back ofc). Ian also begins liking her as he develops human emotions, and therefore becoming more human. There is also something about Lyra that's helping her keep her humane side, but it's slowly fading. I thought that was a clever way to include a love triangle into the story
I read Webtoons and gosh some of the love triangle stories turn me off. I've taken long breaks from shows and webtoons, because the story ended on a cringe cliff hanger about the two sides competing for main's love. Especially when main is already more interested in one of them. Then I come back to find the next episode isn't as ugly as I expected from the cliffhanger.
What I think would be a nice dynamic or a cool dynamic is the typical love triangle except the person in the middle doesn’t want either of them and then the other two become best friends afterwards and then slowly fall in love
Well, in the second arc of Wings of Fire (a book series) there is a love triangle between Winter, Moonwatcher, and Qibli. In my opinion I think it's an actual triangle because I think that Tui herself said that the triangle could have gone either way. So it could actually go all the way around. Like an actual triangle.
I would only want to be in the “center” of a love triangle if the two other people then fell in love with each other as well. Like I know polyamorous relationships come with their own challenges, but I just feel like that would be better for everyone involved than stringing two people along just bc I’m indecisive and wouldn’t want to hurt either of them…
I've been in the center of a love triangle, though I'd call it more of a love V. It was just me and my husband liking each other, and then another dude getting possesive over me and being a creep. It makes me cringe seeing love triangles as an adult, and I hated it as a kid too. It never ends with everyone happy. It doesn't feel good, and it is not enjoyable. I don't understand the people that like them.
I find love triangles very annoying and exhausting, it's so pointless, just get together all of you! Make a throuple, a quad, whatever, just love each other!
5:16 same. The amount of times my blood pressure got high while watching the main couple like why would you choose him over that childhood friend (I forget the name, and I don't wanna search it, I know you are getting whom I am talking about) Usually I am not into love triangles, I don't care who you are supporting or whatever. BUT this show OH MY GAWD everyone who was supporting the main guy I'm like WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!?! Anyways the lesbian couple carried the entire show.
I watched Nevertheless too and it was one of those shows where I was Team Second Lead but then the moment she wavered I said “He deserves better,” and watched the rest numb inside. Still enjoyed the acting tho and also the lesbian couple kept me there.
There is a greek tv series called "singles" and in one of the seasons one of the female leads is dating two guys at the same time (the relationships developed at the same time), because she can't decide who to choose. Well, when the guys find out about each other's existence, after a bit of fighting they came to the conclusion that neither of them wanted to break up with the female lead. So, all the three people involved, decided to try dating in a poly type of relationship during which I think they also lived together.
i love love the plot twist when the competitors in the love triangle fall for each other and instead of pursing someone who can't give them 100% they start realizing their feelings for their rival TT
i wish writers/directors would stop being so scared of making an actual polyamorous love triangle and not just these two like this person yk? i wish it could something like idk a couple both fall for someone or where they don’t know they all like each other but end up being together or even that one comment about an actual triangle where they all like each other in the shape of a triangle
I have been in a love triangle before (it was kind of a square though since one of the guys was in a love triangle as well) Probably the worst experience of my life, I chose the other guy who ended up being toxic, and the other girl was as well Now I’ve been dating the other guy for a year (tomorrow is our anniversary), he’s really sweet and patient with me and we’re planning on living together!
the other thing that irritates me about love triangles is how the main character leads both of her "suitors" on and then acts surprised when she has to face the consequences. she never fully rejects them but never actually chooses so the boys are just having their heartstrings trampled while the girl literally has them wrapped around her finger when she very well could have just made up her mind or had a CONVERSATION HELLO COMMUNICATION IS VERY IMPORTANT instead of dragging it on for so long
i was in a… love triangle, or love infinity loop? okay so me and this girl were dating, and then we both kind of liked this other girl, and she liked us, and it was really complicated and oh god i’m glad it’s been over for years now. love triangles aren’t fun irl at all.
I watched Nevertheless as well and I totally agree! The main love triangle and characters were so annoying. I only kept watching for the side character romances
I've always had ideas about making an m/m "love triangle" story that isn't the typical love triangle trope I personally called it the "Love-Rivals to Lovers" trope MC develops a crush on a girl at his high school. ML has been courting the girl for a long time, and when he finds the MC confessing to the girl, he gets furious and intervenes in their conversation. MC gets rejected and then blames ML for ruining his chances at starting a relationship with the girl. They both get mad at each other and shit happens-ML punches MC, MC trips and gets cuts and bruises on his right palm [i love me some angst], and MC, while still on the ground, starts to tear up. ML realizes what he has done and tries to help MC stand up, but while holding back his tears, MC starts to walk away from the scene, limping. Spoiler: ML falls for MC first, and the girl was actually a closeted Ace... TBC...? [depends on my mood]

I've been at the center of a few love triangles and I just want to say it's not as fun as people might think lol the sheer anxiety and guilt of hurting either one kept me up at night and then I just spiraled into 'both of these people are amazing and deserve someone better' (my own issue I know lol) and then just everyone in the process gets hurt. ANYWAY that's just me though and I gave up on dating all together after the last one lol😅 (i want to preface that I was not leading any of these people on we were all just friends (with no intentions) for a while and I guess feelings just kinda rose up)
honestly at this point when i see a love triangle, for it not to annoy me it has to be "all or nothing." either all three of them date each other, or none of them date each other
there are so many reasons i hate love triangles, one of the biggest ones being that they are incredibly uninteresting and predictable. it’s always incredibly obvious who is going to be chosen.
I was in the center of a love triangle 😟 I was in a trip friend group with 2 guys, I chose neither of them Second time I was in a love triangle we all just ended up dating😍👍
Whenever I hear the term "Love Triangle" all I can think about is the music video for the movie "Against All Odds" by Phil Colins. Phil singing on a triangle filled with water. And on the outro the main characters of the movie projected on each side of the triangle. Like if the plot of the movie wasn't clear enough.
I have to agree with most of the comments here. Why do they make love triangles like 2 ppl are in love with one person (usually a girl) and that girl likes both of them. Why not sort of a "we all like eachother" type thing, it'd be much more dramatic and interesting (and kinda hot)
I have actually been in the middle of a love triangle, but it was more, I loved my best friend, she loved my other best friend, and that best friend loved me. Its not fun.
the only love triangle ive ever been passionate about is the comic version of betty, veronica and archie. as a kid i obvi wanted betty to end up w archie cus she deserves the world but now that im older, i understand the truth... it was betty x veronic all along. leave archie's ass
yeah the best thing is just removing ourselves from these situations as soon as they arise... honestly when people are that messy you move on from them fast anyway lol
I think that love triangles work in dramas because it adds a level of uncertainty as to who will end up with whom. you pick your favorite and then you root for them. It seems that the norm is that the one that is set up to be more identifiable is usually not in the lead at the start, so it creates a rooting interest in him/her overcoming his/her competition. it keeps you interested to see if your favorite overcomes or falter and fails! In real life, one person is hectic and the other two are frustrated. not the same.
one time i was in a kind of love triangle so i introduced the 2 guys and was like "if its cool with you, you can both date me" it didn't last very long; one was toxic, and the other was cheating on his gf with me
was gonna say how this is just a ‘love V’ and a true triangle would be A->B->C->A…but i see everyone else is already on it. i’m just glad people are finally realising this!
I have always hated love triangles because I am loyal to my morals. I hate them because I don’t think it’s right to lead people on, it’s just abuse. The centre is also ALWAYS oblivious to everything around them to make up for the fact that they’re emotionally abusive to both/all of their love interests. There was one time in junior high where I had two crushes, but at least I wasn’t selfish enough to go for both at once and leave one heartbroken. In that situation, I simply took some time to sort through my emotions, decide which one would actually work out, and then I confessed (the results? Success! It was my first relationship and it lasted 8 or 9 months, which is apparently significantly longer than most people’s firsts. I think little me did well)
I hate love triangles cuz they could just be in a poly relationship and boom all their issues are solved (this doesn't include when one of them is clearly toxic)
I would love to be the center of a love "triangle" but I just realised I would also like to be a corner because a) it takes the pressure off me and b) I may be poly and like to watch the person I love get all the love they deserve. Also, for a real triangle read Iron Widow skkskskkksk
The issue with love triangles is that they are usually very predictable and very poorly written. You can tell who the protagonist is going to end up with straight away. You usually have the love interest that is also the main character's friend, who is warm and always there for the main character, and the love interest that is the troubled bad boy. The main character always ends up with the mysterious, troubled love interest. Because of the stereotypes involved in the creation of the love triangle, it's a very stale trope. The love triangle trope always pushes the two people who have the most sexual chemistry together over the ones who would actually work best as a couple in the long term, ignoring the issue of romantic compatibility. The love triangle is also used as a lazy plot device far too often, with the only purpose of creating unnecessary drama between the two characters that are clearly supposed to end up together, because we cannot have a healthy, committed relationship with good communication from the beginning to the end, clearly, nor can we have realistic issues that couples face portrayed in books and TV shows.
I was in the middle of a love triangle once, it was the most horrible experience ever. I had no idea how to handle it. The two guys fell out and then one of them ended up hating me, he still ignores me to this day and it has been 8 YEARS. It's fun to watch on screen but definitely NOT fun to be in.
my fav love triangle trope is when the two rivals just end up w each other instead and the person they were chasing after gets rlly successful or dates sm else idk

"Love Triangles" aren't even triangles they are just angles 💀
LITERALLY, for it to be a triangle person a has to like person b, person b to person c, and person c to person a
I want more actual triangles, I've been thinking about this since I discovered the concept in middle school
an interesting idea for a love triangle would be to have two guy fighting over a girl who doesn't really want to be with either of them and is afraid to say no because she has a terrible people pleaser complex. she then leaves them both learning to love herself and the two guys realize they were more motivated by the other guy then the girl and go through their own journey of learning boundaries when dating.
I would love to see that in a movie or series:) maybe even a fanfic
story of me and my two exes lol. i shouldve known
I actually saw a short comic about this exact concept years ago
Crazy ex-girlfriend is literally like this! That show is hilarious!!
@Basil basically
aww, that sounds so cute !!!!
@Basil yes 💀
Mom I'm famous
Oh my god, I need to read something like this
Love triangles are okay, but exhausting, the main character seems to never make up their mind, at least the ones I've seen. And I can't even imagine two people liking me at once, let alone one person, so the idea of love triangles seem fictional to me
Yea, I've never heard of one in real life
and it's usually a girl in the centre,bc the author has to build up both potential love interests she does not give the main girl any personality at all 💀
i love how most love triangles aren't even love triangles, they're love angles. In order to have a love triangle option a and b have to like eachother a bit as well, therefore LOVE TRIANGLES HAVE TO BE A BIT GAY OR THEY'RE LOVE ANGLES
THEY'RE TOO CHICKEN TO MAKE IT GAY 😤
This is exactly what's going on in My Dear Loser Edge of 17 from gmmtv (available here in yb), guy a in love with guy b, guy b has a crush in girl and girl have crush in guy a, complicated hahahaha
another thing i noticed (specifically in webtoons) is whenever there's a love triangle with 2 men going after 1 woman, both of these men are adored and loved and people feel bad when one of them doesn't get the girl even when he has history of doing questionable things but whenever there's a love triangle with 1 man and 2 women....the 2nd lead girl is ALWAYS coined as "trashta" and a "bvtch" and is "ruining the main couple" and need to "gtfo" even if she did absolutely nothing wrong 💀
i'm not even exaggerating, this webtoon i read and 2nd male lead set the female lead's house ON FIRE and she ended up unconscious for a month and all top comments were "aww he doesn't know he loves her yet" "hope she falls in love with him" and then there was literally just a girl who had a crush on male lead and the most she did was make female lead drink a spicy tea and the comments dragged her to the depths of hell istg-
Why is this so true...
it's the work of the m word baby
yeah! i'm tired of that 'cause literally ALL the "rivals" on those webtoons are so demonized by both the artist and the readers, sometimes they don't do much and are already the top villain who deserves to die while the men get a pass about every. single. bad action they have! it's frustrating and more often i find myself rooting more for the 2nd/3rd girl instead of the main girl because i just want some justice. talk about some misogyny
Probably because readers see themselves as the main lead. In the first case, they see it as two guys fawning over the main lead/them. While in the second case, it is a full on rivalry, with misogny thrown into the mix.
Emily is looking particularly triangular today
what are you talking about? thats not even emily..
@@luvbugluna actually, her name is emily as you may or may not know!
@@joeysoftpawshow would we even know her name we’re not even fans 🙄
I dont like cuz most of the ones i watch either i dont like either options.
Yeah and the one choosing between them doesn’t love either of the love interests as much as they love them or they wouldn’t have to choose. I’d way rather have the love interests be equally in love with each other.
Same, that's why I want to write stories where the relationship already happened and now they have kids, if there's romance it's a subplot.
Love alarm had a GREAT love triangle. It really had me going "what." When I finished the k-drama, I was in shock. I also agree with Nevertheless...I paused that show every 3 minutes just to say "NA-BI STOP. STOP RIGHT NOW."
I just was thinking about that drama, right before i read this comment. It was so unexpected what they did there.
IKR?! Like na-bi was so dumb and chose the playboy, but the lesbian couple was soo cute🥺
nabi was never supposed to end the the main guy, wtf were the drama makers smoking, the webtoon handled it much better
@@bloop4527 wait really, I need to read the webtoon now... Or could you spoil it for me?

I have not been let down. This was soooo entertaining.
She’s hilarious 😂
i was in the middle of a love triangle once and it was the worst, the guilt i felt was horrible
@@sunnyshiholaboum..5822 but they are all still friends btw this was like last semester so yea that all. I made a joke about it being a kdrama except their Spanish and called it “My confused heart “😭💀
I will not watch a movie/show or read a book if there’s a triangle. Shit is infuriating and normally is misogynistic
Me too usually
Wait how is it misogynistic ?
@@tonylex3760 Usually it’s one dude and 2 girls. They make the girls cat fight normally and one of the girls is always super bitchy for no reason, fighting over an avg guy with a shit personality. In the case of gay triangles: 2 dudes and a girl, the girl is straight up evil. And when it’s 3 girls, it’s even more toxic.
@@reet7060 I think 2 guys in love with the same girl is far more frequent. The twilight scenario is a cliche for a reason
@@tonylex3760 For girl books. But most movies feature male protagonists. And those have a lot of love triangles
I hate, hate, hate, hate, Hate, Hate,HATE love triangles,
It always breaks my heart to see either one of the "rivals" lose, like the center of the attention HAS to choose someone already so that the one who would lose will not be that hurt, but noooooo...
They have to drag it out for so long that the only thing that ces out of them choosing someone else is negative, sigh...
Now that I have vented my frustrations for love triangles, I am still disgusted by love triangles
The issue with irl love triangles is that the "main" person always has a clear preference, so it's not a real triangle
What I hate about a lot of YA love triangles is that, instead of the girl (for it is usually a girl) making an organic choice between her two suitors, the choice is made for her, because one of the suitors will die, turn out to be evil, or do something that causes them to be ostracized.
-
By the way, Emily, the funeral skit was great, but MY GOD, WOMAN! Follow the 180º rule! 🤣
I usually find love triangles to be very annoying
I love the love triangles that aren’t actually love triangles. FOR EXAMPLE: two characters that love each other but have a falling out and then one of them becomes friends with someone else and the first person is SUPER JEALOUS (taken from a real storyline in critical role-Imogen and Laudna)
love triangles are love bent lines and no one can convince me otherwise. on another note if you want an actual triangle 'iron widow' has a main poly relationship that's pretty cool
also overly sarcastic productions did a good video on love triangles :)
YOOO I love that book!!
I have actually experienced being the 'main character' in a Love Triangle more than once and it's never as fun as romantic dramas make it out to be lol
Someone will inevitably get hurt, many times it'll be all three people involved🙃
My favorite is when they're fighting over mc and realize they actally have feeling for both of them and we end up with all 3 of them together.
I was the exact same way with Nevertheless. Throughout the whole show I wanted to smash Jae-eon in the face every time he smiled. Soljiwan should have been the main leads for sure. I try to avoid love triangle shows as much as possible.
SOLJIWAN NATION RISE
@@notevenemily YESSSS
@@notevenemily YESSSSSSS I LITERALLY STOPPED WATCHING THE SHOW AT EPISODE 3 BECAUSE OF HOW MUCH JAE-EON PISSED ME OFF
I just realized I didn't even know there was a love triangle in nevertheless because 90% of the time I just skipped it to the wlw couple (in my defense, I wasn't at all interested in the main couple's storyline and the side couple was super cute so I decided to solely stick to the show for them)
i think another weird factor is the idea that the main character can only make one choice. yeah, we live in a world that prioritizes monogomy and stigmatizes polyamory but how come barely any of these protagonists even see multiple partners as an option
Because we live in a world that prioritises monogamy and stigmatises polyamory lmao. You answered your own question. Even if it’s super annoying…
The book iron widow has a love triangle that ends in polyamory! It’s a great book and I really recommend it
Love triangles in real life are extremely uncomfortable, I was in one and it was very very distressing for me. Not recommending it at all lol
my opinion is that love triangles stress me out and I don't need any more stress :')
and a lot of the time the person who has to pick starts to look like the dumbest person ever and you end up like "why are they even fighting over this person? they should just move on"
The way I was also thinking of nevertheless when you said it pissed you off lmaoooo.
Same I just found out in this video,
a love triangle would kill me regardless if where i stood. if i was one of the interests or if i was the main character. the guilt i would feel with leading two people on is enough to throw me off. but then the idea of being one of the people led on is also shit. even if im chosen in the end, the fact that there was somebody else who was led on doesnt sit right with me.
personally, i'm tired of this trope and i don't think it needs to be used so often
As someone who had friends who were stuck in real life love triangles, being the friend who is friends of all involved is the worst.
I hate love triangles SO MUCH. I’m so done with them.
TV Show Person: “Oh, my! I just don’t know how I should choose who to love! The cute, lively neighborhood childhood friend, or the cool, edgy dom…”
Like I know polyamorous relationships come with their own challenges, but I just feel like that would be better for everyone involved than stringing two people along just bc I’m indecisive and wouldn’t want to hurt either of them…
I just want to say the wink at 3:02 was very smooth. Well done 👏👏👏
Same omg I can't believe I had to scroll down so far to find this comment!
i usually think love triangles are pretty fun but the jeff/annie/britta triangle in community boils my blood i hate it so much
Thank god they dropped it for the most part after like the first episode of season two
I've been in the center of a love triangle, though I'd call it more of a love V.
7:08 “There was only one Civil War!” was the funniest thing I’ve seen all week
I find love triangles very annoying and exhausting, it's so pointless, just get together all of you! Make a throuple, a quad, whatever, just love each other!
5:16 same. The amount of times my blood pressure got high while watching the main couple like why would you choose him over that childhood friend (I forget the name, and I don't wanna search it, I know you are getting whom I am talking about)
Usually I am not into love triangles, I don't care who you are supporting or whatever. BUT this show OH MY GAWD everyone who was supporting the main guy I'm like WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!?!
Anyways the lesbian couple carried the entire show.
It's basically two men fighting for one woman. And the woman .. well she loves them sure. But she seems to love the attention even more
I watched Nevertheless too and it was one of those shows where I was Team Second Lead but then the moment she wavered I said “He deserves better,” and watched the rest numb inside. Still enjoyed the acting tho and also the lesbian couple kept me there.
love triangle where it turns into a poly relationship is what i keep waiting for fr
ikr
That’s a love corner. A love triangle is when they all get together and have a polyamorous relationship.
i wish writers/directors would stop being so scared of making an actual polyamorous love triangle and not just these two like this person yk? i wish it could something like idk a couple both fall for someone or where they don’t know they all like each other but end up being together or even that one comment about an actual triangle where they all like each other in the shape of a triangle
I have been in a love triangle before (it was kind of a square though since one of the guys was in a love triangle as well)
Probably the worst experience of my life, I chose the other guy who ended up being toxic, and the other girl was as well
Now I’ve been dating the other guy for a year (tomorrow is our anniversary), he’s really sweet and patient with me and we’re planning on living together!
"Theres to many pretty women in the world" PREACH
“That was one time!”
“There was only one civil war!”
the other thing that irritates me about love triangles is how the main character leads both of her "suitors" on and then acts surprised when she has to face the consequences. she never fully rejects them but never actually chooses so the boys are just having their heartstrings trampled while the girl literally has them wrapped around her finger when she very well could have just made up her mind or had a CONVERSATION HELLO COMMUNICATION IS VERY IMPORTANT instead of dragging it on for so long
i was in a… love triangle, or love infinity loop? okay so me and this girl were dating, and then we both kind of liked this other girl, and she liked us, and it was really complicated and oh god i’m glad it’s been over for years now. love triangles aren’t fun irl at all.
I love love triangles when they end in polyamory. That's it. No unrequited love drama in my media, thank you
I watched Nevertheless as well and I totally agree! The main love triangle and characters were so annoying. I only kept watching for the side character romances
I've always had ideas about making an m/m "love triangle" story that isn't the typical love triangle trope
I personally called it the "Love-Rivals to Lovers" trope
MC develops a crush on a girl at his high school.

Poly people be like: I have two hands for a reason
the fanfics where the competitors get together are great 🙈

Second time I was in a love triangle we all just ended up dating😍👍
Whenever I hear the term "Love Triangle" all I can think about is the music video for the movie "Against All Odds" by Phil Colins.
Phil singing on a triangle filled with water. And on the outro the main characters of the movie projected on each side of the triangle.
Like if the plot of the movie wasn't clear enough.
being the center of the love triangle also sucks, plus being so indecisive you end up with nobody
i loved the last conversation it was actually really funny 😭😭
I have to agree with most of the comments here. Why do they make love triangles like 2 ppl are in love with one person (usually a girl) and that girl likes both of them. Why not sort of a "we all like eachother" type thing, it'd be much more dramatic and interesting (and kinda hot)
I don't like them. Can't live vicariously through them. I feel stressed whenever I think about disappointing one of my imaginary suitors .
I have actually been in the middle of a love triangle, but it was more, I loved my best friend, she loved my other best friend, and that best friend loved me. Its not fun.
I like love triangles, but only because I'm poly and I constantly just want them to end up in a polyamourous throuple.
the only love triangle ive ever been passionate about is the comic version of betty, veronica and archie. as a kid i obvi wanted betty to end up w archie cus she deserves the world but now that im older, i understand the truth... it was betty x veronic all along. leave archie's ass
yeah the best thing is just removing ourselves from these situations as soon as they arise... honestly when people are that messy you move on from them fast anyway lol
yo i just wanted to watch her old vines this is even better
My favorite love triangle is the one where all 3 end up in a relationship (see: Siren and Sense8)
I feel the same way about nevertheless, finally someone who understands
I think that love triangles work in dramas because it adds a level of uncertainty as to who will end up with whom. you pick your favorite and then you root for them. It seems that the norm is that the one that is set up to be more identifiable is usually not in the lead at the start, so it creates a rooting interest in him/her overcoming his/her competition. it keeps you interested to see if your favorite overcomes or falter and fails!
In real life, one person is hectic and the other two are frustrated. not the same.
one time i was in a kind of love triangle so i introduced the 2 guys and was like "if its cool with you, you can both date me"
it didn't last very long; one was toxic, and the other was cheating on his gf with me
was gonna say how this is just a ‘love V’ and a true triangle would be A->B->C->A…but i see everyone else is already on it. i’m just glad people are finally realising this!
Me immediately after seeing the title: We don't. I hate them. Make it either a truple or don't make it at all.
Bro I thought this was titled “Why Do We Love Triangles?” and I was like, “duh, because they’re obviously the best shape!”
I hate love triangles with a burning fire within my hellish cesspool of a soul
Being in one is a nightmare.
I could RANT about Nevertheless. THEY HAD A WHOLE COMIC TO WORK OFF OF WHAT HAPPENED!!??
I would love to be the center of a love "triangle" but I just realised I would also like to be a corner because a) it takes the pressure off me and b) I may be poly and like to watch the person I love get all the love they deserve.
Also, for a real triangle read Iron Widow skkskskkksk
Then there's people like me who watch Love Triangles in hopes of them becoming a poly relationship 😃👍
5:15 “I was willing to suffer through the terrible main couple so I could get my lesbian crumbs” I relate to this so much more than I want to
The issue with love triangles is that they are usually very predictable and very poorly written.
Speaking of love triangles, the Miraculous love “triangle” isn’t even a triangle. It’s a whole ass octagon.
I personally find love triangles stressful. I would hate to be part of one (prob cause of my anxiety)
