    It's great to see children learning and getting involved with traditional farming methods.

    The video that HALF THE UNIVERSE has been waiting for!
    We all enjoyed it knowing how real it is, and honestly it represents your philosophy of family, work, and stewardship.
    Also it's become clear that y'all and Bo have really settled into a comfortable flow together in the filming and creating of content.
    (So Bo if you read this, 👍🏻 consider it a genuine pat on the back)

    I was a big fan of your work already but now... i'm also a scythe enthusiast and find it really relaxing yet really good for my body. It's fascinating how similiarly we see this world from thousand miles away. By the way I think this is one of the few activites that mechanization couldn't make so much more efficient with gas mowers/weed eaters (not talking about tractor mowers of course)

      Really appreciate that! Good stuff, and I agree completely.

    Your patience with your kids here is inspiring. I know it took longer with their help than going solo, but what a great day. I struggle some days with that kind of patience, but treasure the days where I find it, as they are always memorable.

    The original power mower. Yupp have a few from our old farm from about 1700 to 1970 . We were here before our town was established. In fact our name was considered for the town. Im the last male so theres no more coming . Glad to see ya using the scythe and the kids wanting to help brings my days on the farm.

      That's cool! Well except for the last male part. Time to get busy!😂

    I've never used a scythe, but I do use a brush cutter to work down the undergrowth in my woods. And I do agree that seems to be when I think the most. Keeps my mind busy. I do like how quiet a scythe is, dont think it would work too well here.

      Scythes come with a variety of blades. There are brush blades and weed blades that work great in heavy stuff.

    an expierenced scythe mower was able to mow about a tenth of an acre per hour but that info is for the Swiss Style scythe which is very similar to the Austrain blades. Awesome video by the way

    • @AxeAndAnvil
      @AxeAndAnvil  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! According to 19th century sources an experienced American mower should be able to mow between 1 and 3 acres per day with an American scythe. Of course their are a lot of factors, including the ground and type of grass/grain.

    Way better than the motor versions. Thank you. I am now on the lookout for an antique one!

    • @AxeAndAnvil
      @AxeAndAnvil  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes you can find a good antique one, but often the antiques you do find are the extra heavy bush or weed snaths. They're ok, but a lighter grass snath is nicer for everyday use. Ben at Baryonyx has some nice snath options.

    I just recently hurt myself with a weed eater where it kicked a 4cm piece of fence wire into my left calf muscle where it stayed for 20 days scythes are much safer and should be common place it makes no sense in a world where climate change is everyone's obsession why gas string trimmers are even allowed

    • @AxeAndAnvil
      @AxeAndAnvil  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I hear ya! I like my string trimmer, but if the scythe will do the job I'd rather use it. Just as good or better in many situations.

  • @Carterironworks

    Are you drying it for hear specifically or using it in some other way? And what's that process like? I only get to deal with the machinery harvested stuff out here. Great video sir keep up the good work.

    • @AxeAndAnvil
      @AxeAndAnvil  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not drying it, just throwing it down for bedding. It's really sorry hay, over-mature and full of weeds. If I was gonna store it for hay I'd definitely dry it.
