@mirocreed According to the end credits, no... but the studio wasn't in Indonesia either. The "studio facilities" for this episode are credited as being at "VTF Paris".

Is it possible therefore, that this is the pilot episode and they used the French version's facilities?

@jamesmt142 I imagine this studio would have had to have been in Indonesia for the radio link to work.

Didn't take long to scale this down to just the UK, tight-arsed Channel 4 execs!

Channel 4 didn't really have the budget to go abroad with Treasure Hunt more than once a year. The channel was owned at the time by the Independent Broadcasting Authority (who were also responsible for regulating the ITV network and the Independent Local Radio stations) and, as they are now, funded by advertising.
This was from a time when advertising was sold by the local ITV companies on Channel 4's behalf, but the adverts themselves were hard to come by due to a dispute between the IBA, Equity (the actors' trade union) and the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (which also limited advertising on TV-am when that started in February 1983), meaning that in many ITV regions there would be little-to-no advertising on Channel 4 in its first few years (mainly the minor regions such as TSW or Grampian)

I *much* preferred the UK episodes, because there was a fighting chance that I might know the places that were visited, and could even maybe work out in advance which places of interest they might visit for parts of the country that I knew very well. The foreign episodes never worked so well for me. It's a great shame that the short-lived Suzi Perry reboot of Treasure Hunt concentrated on Kent for the first series, rather than using other UK locations, and that the second series was exclusively overseas.

I can't believe how posh everyone sounds, very "received pronunciation"- more like 1952! The set I remember looked a lot more homely with chairs and bookshelves etc. but as others have said it's not the Channel 4 set. Challenge showed this a few days ago, but it was put into a 1hr 15min slot, so riddled with ads (it seemed about 3 breaks for every 1 they had in 1982) so would be bloody hard to follow unless you had a lot of patience or just recorded it and jumped the ads. Modern commercial networks can't seem to fit an old 50-52 minute show into an hour due to them peeing away money on their other channels, plus effects and childish CGI characters, giving the need to put more ads on, which in themselves are more annoying than ever. And, don't get me started on that waving prat from TNA Wrestling popping up in the lower right-hand corner and on trailers every 30 minutes... All this is so repellent, I can't watch commercial TV at the time of broadcast nowadays- plus recording the shows saves about 20 minutes of each hour! Sorry for the Charlie Brooker-style rant! Good show this (if I didn't mention it 10 sentences ago) :D

Most people on TV spoke with posh accents until about 1990.

@@ajs41 Most of the contestants had slightly more regional accents, from what I remember. Diccon in this episode sounded very Home Counties RP - maybe even more so than Kenneth Kendall.

Stupid comment. The problem with TV today is that it doesn't feature middle-class attitudes.
