  • In this video we introduce transfer functions and show how they can be derived from a set of linear, ordinary differential equations. We also examine how to use a transfer function to predict the output of system to a given input.

    My goodness this is an absolutely incredible video, its only an hour long but it takes you through every potential experience you can have with transfer functions even extending it to simulink and matlab which was fantastic. I also am an aerospace engineer and so I was very happy and at home so to say with your initial plane system model. You are a very smart man things clicked smoothly and quickly for me, its like you were born to be a teacher. Excellent work, you've more than deserved a new subscriber and an additional like to your videos. Fantastic work keep it up!

    Once again I praise your videos and this time I'm pointing out how useful is for us student that you actually contextualize concepts explaining how they interconnect and how to apply them in practical scenarios. This is rare to find in this kind of youtube lectures (oftentimes the real final goal of a mathematical procedure is not even mentioned...)
    I'm watching your videos to prepare for a master of science in acoustic engineering and they're really helpful.
    also, ahahah... while you were plotting on Mathematica I continuously paused the video to figure out how to get the same thing on Matlab aaaand then you showed us, ahah should have predicted that

    It's been a decade since I took college calculus, so I had to replay this video a few times. I think I understand conceptually, but I definitely need more instruction of fundamentals.

    Awesome lecture series. Thanks a lot for dedicating your time to teach us :-)
    When the lecture started off it was assumed that there are N inputs (of y) and M outputs (of u). But when writing the general form of the LTI, where [output equation] = [input equation] the n and m were switched. No problem, it was consistent within that discussion.
    Small note: I used "lsim" function instead of using Simulink (of Matlab), and the good news is open source software Octave has "tf" and "lsim" functions. Just remember to load package named "control" to get the TF features. I used "gensig" function to generate the input.

    Most of the time, I need to watch the lectures on YT 2-3 times before I totally understand the subject. But, It only took one time to absorb this.     There is a theory among the model plane makers is this that, we have to give a slight pitch down to the motor and prop combo for stability for a tractor type and a pitch up for pusher type. what exactly is the physics behind that theory.

    What do we do in the case of a non-zero initial condition? For example, the differential equation y''(t)+y'(t)+y(t)+C = u(t). Is it possible to write a transfer function for this system? Is there a way to use substitutions with a change of variable (not sure how though)?
