The Mandalorian is Connecting Snoke and Sequel Trilogy - Nerd Theory

  • Welcome back to Nerd Theory! This week let's talk about how The Mandalorian Season 2 is explaining Snoke and the Sequel Trilogy. I believe we saw Snoke in the latest Mandalorian Season 2 episode, where in my breakdown I explained how Moff Gideon, per Dr. Pershing's holo message, said he needs the blood of The Child to conduct more experiments. These experiments could be to create a force sensitive being, or to resurrect Palpatine himself...or...to bring Snoke to life.

    My guy I totally disagree with the not caring about Mando anymore. This show will always be his and The Child’s. I think he holds his own on screen against characters like Bo and Ahsoka. And his arc is interesting (learning a different way of mandalore and becoming a “Dad”) he’s my favourite Star Wars character. Why are people jumping ship on the main character when big characters return for literally one episode.

    • @TXNIZ
      @TXNIZ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They are jumping ship because he is a boring main character being overshadowed by Baby Yoda, Bo-Katan, Boba Fett and fucking Ahsoka. It’s almost impossible to view him as the main character when you turn him into a full time babysitter and then introduce characters that are infinitely bigger than him. He naturally fades into irrelevance in the eyes of the audience and it’s 100% because of the writing. For his character arc to improve he needs to be released from the burden of being Baby Yodas babysitter because we’ve seen how sick he is when he isn’t being a babysitter which is what we actually want to see.

    • @amf0078
      @amf0078 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@TXNIZ hate to break it to you but the relationship between them is a big part of the show. And Baby Yoda is equally a main character next to Din Djarin they are a clan of two after all and the show is called the mandalorian referring to both of them and I can tell you he’s not a badly written character or overshadowed imo.

    • @TXNIZ
      @TXNIZ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amf0078 without the insertion of baby Yoda, Din Djarin is actually interesting. The Mandalorian is in reference to HIM, not baby Yoda so don’t even try that. This is his story from his perspective but it’s being lost. Although we love Baby Yoda, he is a symbol of cuteness meant to distract viewers from realising that he is actually burdening the main character. Din does not intend to be a father to him, his mission is to deliver him to the Jedi. Why don’t we get any flashbacks now ? Why don’t we know anything more about Din and his journey becoming a Mando ? Where has his sect gone ? Is he in contact with them ? Is the armourer a former follower of Maul ? Why wasn’t the interaction with him and Bo-Katan longer and more in depth ? Why didn’t they have an actual discussion about Mandalorian shit ? This is sub par writing. Episode 2 this season was the dumbest episode ever and could have been used to do deepen Din’s character and flesh out more of his story so we remain interested in THE MANDALORIAN but no they did ice spiders, a frog person and Dave Filoni in an x wing becaues filler smh.

    Kathleen has done amazing things in the world of film, but she really screwed the pooch with the sequel trilogy and honestly she does carry most of the blame. They should've either took George's ideas to heart or atleast took an extra year to really nail down a good, concrete story instead of just winging it.

      Well i think all it proves is that on her own Kennedy truly is no visionary creative mind. She only really amounts to the kind of tea person, it sounds horrible to say but i think thats really it. She just helped manage the true visionaries while they worked on the masterpieces they created, such as JP and Indie films.
      When she was given all this power and control for herself Kathleen Kennedy really kind of became arrogant. Look at that "The Force Is Female" Nike Campaign, that got totally missconstrued and made to look like somekind of heavy Feminist Campaign in general (i mean maybe it was). It is a example of Kennedy's incompetence.
      Even with this The Mandalorian Tv Series, Favreau was the one who came up with it and pitched his idea to Kennedy, and she simply green-lit it, and she was even told to not interfere with the show at all for risk of hurting it in some way.
      All her decisions on each of these Disney Star Wars movies have been questionable with her swapping out directors pretty much at the last minute. Only TLJ went ahead without any hiccups, cause strangely Rian and Kennedy shared the same views, and then look just how "divisive" that movie turned out to be.
      Kathleen Kennedy proves that while Women can be given the power to run such big Studios and Divisions within a huge Company, they have to be the right Women.

    • @GregMcCoyUSC
      @GregMcCoyUSC 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. I think the fault is rushing it. If your idea is to get 3 different directors with different styles that's fine, but you have to have 1 cohesive story for them to execute. I think we're a little spoiled in the age of the MCU because Fiege has done such a good job with orchestrating a single vision over 20+ movies, with multiple directors, stories, and cast. But I think you had JJ write a script for 7 with an ending in mind for 9, and Johnson comes in and does what he wants to do in 8, and instead of having someone new finish it off in 9 playing on the end of 8, I think that could have worked. But JJ came back and basically was like that's not the story I wanted so I'll just finish it how I wanted to.

      Name one thing that she did. She is not a creative type. She has no mind for it. Her talents are more organizational and political which have their place but she insisted on having creative control which she had no business doing. The sequels are an absolute mess and its because of her terrible leadership. How can you just wing it without having an overall story completed before going into production?? Thats the most basic thing that any one of us would have made sure happened. She sucks.

      Palpatine kills Plagueis (Snoke) and make his Clones. Before he died he made a plan if someone kills him the Empire (first order) will have to resurrect him with the help of the snoke clones (execute order 1). He didnt know that he will need a blood of a jedi or a sith to work because something was wrong with the first clones. So for first Snoke clones they need a doner blood. They tried it with Baby Yoda but it s to small so they will need someone else... meybe Ahsoka blood?
      So they Successfully make first Snoke (We see him in the sequels) and from the first Snoke they make new clones that blood is full of Midiclorians. So with Clones of Snoke and blood they can now resurrect Palpatine and fuels him with Blood (We see that in Rise of the Skywalker)
      So Mando will give Baby Yoda to Ahsoka and they wil return him to the planet of Yoda's.
      Ahsoha will help Mando liberate Mandalore but Empire will capture her and they will make Snoke with Ahsoka blood.

    I've always thought that the best way of fleshing out the sequels would be to rebrand them as Episodes X, XI and XII and do a new trilogy for Episodes VII, VIII and IX. So this new trilogy would be a sequel to the OT, but also a prequel to the sequels. It could give fans a chance to see their favorite characters in their prime again, could even keep the likes of Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover from Solo. We could see Palpatine's survival, the fall of Ben Solo etc really fleshed out. If you want to include legends characters, you could even have Luke be with Mara Jade, who discovers that Palpatine is alive but is killed before being able to warn Luke, sending Luke into depression and making him more susceptible to mistakes such as contemplating killing Ben.

Keep Luke and all the other jedi out of the main storyline and just have them appear for an episode or two and spin off into their own shows or movies. We might be pleasantly suprised

      @@RaikenXion I think it will cut into the plot of the sequels without getting into any of the sequel characters. It's basically gonna be a series to cover sequel plot holes a la Rogue One with the Death Star weakness.

    • @RaikenXion
      @RaikenXion 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jrbling25 I agree but i think what was "petty" was the fans who heavily attacked George Lucas over his Prequels, over what ultimately amounted to alittle too much reliance on Green-Screen/CGI and weak/cheesy dialogue. But everything else was outstanding in his prequels, the consistency, the overall story-telling, the world-building the sheer number of weird alien races and creatures we were introduced to, and how they fit perfectly upto the OT movies.
      But i dont think fan's concerns with the Sequels are even petty at all. They're very grave and valid concerns. The Sequels have no Lore, they're riddled with over a hundred inconsistencies (not joking) and each movie is dissjointed from the other. Not to mention how they destroy character arcs. But i won't get into all the issues with the Sequels here.
      A lot of fan's concern here is that if the showrunners do connect right up to the Sequels through the overall narrative they're telling. It runs the risk of creating more inconsistencies down the line, in trying to "dance" around the Sequels, which they will have no choice but to do, if they try it.
      I do agree that Creatives in general should NEVER have to feel they got to do things purely to please a group of fans, even if that group make up even half of a fanbase as a whole. This was where JJ screwed up big time with TROS, he should hae just done his own thing with that (but then again tbh i dont believe he even had any original ideas of his own in the first place when he worked on TFA).
      But i have to say here i believe its impossible to fix the Sequels, or even improve them from a narrative point. It was a huge mistake just copying the OT and even coming up with the idea of The First Order and them creating a more death stars, star destroyers, storm-troopers just the entire same things that the Empire had.
      The idea of them being born from the ashes of the Empire, with a few Moffs surviving and disappearing into the unknown regions is very interesting, but that should have evolved into a completely new and ORIGINAL threat entirely; to build a fresh story from and thats where Snoke had promise.

    • @RaikenXion
      @RaikenXion 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jrbling25 I've been looking into this and thinking much further ahead and i just want to share with you an example of what i'm getting at.
      If you make a connection, the narrative of The Mandalorian seems to be building up to bringing Luke Skywalker into things now. I mean that seems to be like 99% where it's going. So when Mando eventually meets Luke, and if Luke agrees to train "Grogu", which it seems most likely he will considering Luke needs every force sensitive he can find to establish the Jedi Order in the Galaxy again. Mando will tell Luke how he came across the child, that he rescued Grogu from the Imperial Remnant and they have been after him ever since.
      How would you explain what happens to Grogu when Luke confronts Ben Solo that night? I mean this would only be like maybe ten whole years from now. Ben solo flees and comes back as "Kylo Ren", but by that point hes already in league with Snoke, who had been inside his head; AND THEN Sideous even, if we're going on TROS. So this would mean they had already cloned the Emperor, how!? If they never managed to get hold of Baby Yoda/Grogu. And also theres the issue of the Sith Empire, Snoke and The First Order were never even aware of them, so if we're making this connection, how far does it go!?!?
      Gideon and Thrawn would have to lead all the way back to Sideous and his Sith Empire, if we're making this connection and going on the whole idea of those experiments in those tanks at that Imperial base on Narravo, being somekind of failed test subjects of Snoke. At end of the day if the connection is going to be made it would have to be established that Baby Yoda was captured by Gideon's Imperial Remnant, experimented on and possibly killed. Because we've learned that they needed more blood, more midiclorians from the child. And if Baby Yoda was still alive at the time of the Sequels where was he? And why didnt he speak to Rey like all the other Jedi did including Ahsoka?
      Too many questions and as one is answered it just creates another question because what you're doing is basically trying to "fix" something that is really kind of unfixable and ultimately flawed because of all the inconsistencies.

    The Mando won't be what to the sequels that TCW was to the prequels for this main point: Mando won't have the sequel characters (Finn, Poe, Rey, Ben/Kylo) in the show due to the timeframe of Mando (25 years prior to sequels). TCW allowed us to further explore the main characters of the prequels (Anakin, Padme, Obi-Wan, the Jedi) along with adding new characters (Ahsoka and the clones). Mando is really just going to be a band-aid to fix all the world-building issues that stem from TFA, it will fill in the time gaps, show us tidbits of how the First Order rose, how the New Republic really, etc, but it won't have the same impact that TCW did for the prequels because Mando won't expand on the sequel characters like TCW did for the prequel characters.

    Yes this is a spark of hope like what happened with the prequels, the sequels have hope to become loved and appreciated more by fans, personally I already really liked the sequels but this could fix a lot of things fans didn’t like, Dave Filoni is a genius

      Theres too many things, not just in the context of the story of the Sequels, but the way inwhich some of the actors themselves were treated. Like Mark Hamill and how he wasnt listened to at all on TLJ and they just character assassinated Luke in that movie.
      Or Kelly Marie Tran and how they had a chance to really work her into the end story, but didnt even use her in TROS, a massive disservice.
      How John Boyega has been very vocal about how they bigged him up, into thinking hos character Finn was going to have a more substantial role to do with him being a force sensitive storm trooper, a unique and original idea in itself, but they didnt even go there and totally wasted the opportunity.
      Boyega's image as "Finn" was shrunk down on TFA posters for the Asian Market, specifically China, this came out that to do with Chinese audiences not liking Black actors in movies much and Disney thought it would put the Chinese audience off the movie seeing his face much in the poster.
      Then the biggest onem those three big actors from the OT who played Luke, Leia and Han, they were never allowed to unite all on-screen together at the sametime in the Sequel Trilogy, not even in a flashback, i mean they even brought Han Solo back as just a ghost for Ben Solo's redemption, but not those three.
      How do you "hope" to get fans who have never forgotten about these issues to appreciate the Sequels??

      @@RaikenXion Fair enough, with like kids tho that are growing with the sequels today they wouldn’t be aware about the issues like how us as kids didn’t care about the flaws with the prequels and how the dialogue was abit eh, because they will not be aware about Kathleen Kennedy or any of the John boyega, mark Hamil like stuff

      @@yousufhaq15 True i mean as a teen even, growing up with the prequels myself i never had issue with them, infact i wasn't aware there was a part of the fanbase that really disliked them and didnt find out until years later. And even today while i do recognize their flaws in weak, sometimes "cheesy dialogue", and alittle too much use of the green-screen for most-all the action scenes i still luv the prequels.
      Its true that kids would not be aware of the issues behind the scenes to do with Hamill, Kennedy and Boyega or even Kelly, but kids do pick up on when a thing simply isnt popular. Look at the Star Wars Resistance Animated series that was aimed specifically at kids. They picked up on that show not being popular overall amongst the fanbase, and when some kids learn the adult fans are not into a certain thing; or adult fans find a show alittle too "childish", kids themselves pick up on this when they hear hear the word around school that something is not "cool" or their friends are not watching it they switch off. This was what ultimately led to the downfall of the Resistance show.
      And this is the thing with Star Wars when some people say its just for kids, Star Wars at it's best is a universal thing that appeals to ALL. And the main problem with the Sequels is they're just so divisive, even though there are alot of kids growing up with the Sequels right now, its very different than when we were growing up with Star Wars. Today theres a whole slew of massive, huge franchises out there for kids to follow, not just "Star Wars", like the MCU e.g.
      And Disney themselves really havnt done alot for the Sequels to make them feel like this huge thing, they certainly havnt had anykind of cultural impact that the OT had. Kids today get bored quick and not so attached, especially when they hear overall that something is not loved overall by the fans as a whole, so they quickly loose interest and gravitate toward other things they find to be more popular (like Avengers).
      Infact i'd say kids today have become more attached to the Clone Wars and Rebels series than they have the Sequels.
      I just think overall there doesnt seem to be a huge interest in kids growing up today when it comes to the Sequels, otherwise this would be felt, and reflected in all the merch, there would be a demand for that and for further comics, video-games continuing and exploring the characters from the Sequels.

    It will be hilarious if a in comparison small budget Star Wars show will explain the sequels better then they did themselves

      Sequels were disrespectful and tore down what came before. There is no fixing that mess.

    Watching this months later is sort of funny, because you were asked the Gina Carano/will she get cancelled question, and the answer was a unanimous "No." If only. Keep up the good work.
