It is possible that "we have no intention of him being Saruman... we're angling for a Blue Wizard," means they won't use Saruman's name, and will use a mystery box for him being either Saruman or Alatar.
I assumed the Blue Wizards were successful in the East... then fell to corruption: also, "cults and magic traditions" could mean worshipping the Valar as opposed to Eru Iluvatar, which would imply they spread Valar-worship before spreading Melkor-worship.
Its going to be a new addition to the lore, a Red Wizard. Its going to be an istari who was lost to time after being defeated by Gandalf. It was clear to me as soon as I saw his staff, he is going to be a red wizard.
If we're thinking in terms of lore, the Dark Wizard shouldn't be Saruman, because Saruman never appeared in the Second Age in any version. The only version where he went east was in the Third Age. In the version of the Blue Wizards that came in the Second Age, they do not fall into evil. The series seems to be doing lore-mixing here. As the showrunners implied, he's probably one of the Blue Wizards, but Saruman's motivations and character traits were added to make him familiar to the general audience. Since The Stranger is Gandalf, the situation may be as follows: There are two Blue Wizards. Of these, the Dark Wizard is the evil Blue Wizard who belongs to the Third Age version but was dragged into the Second Age and had Saruman motivation added to him. There is a lore-mixing going on here. The other is the benevolent Blue Wizard who we haven't seen in the series yet and normally belongs to the Second Age version.
Perhaps we will find out when someone bumps into him and says "Sorry man"... Sorry... man... Saru man... OMG! Saruman!! Makes about as much bloody sense as Grand Elf 🙄
So the blue wizards were initially good, but turned evil when they arrived, but only Gandalf had amnesia when he landed with a thud? The Valar’s plan seems kind of stupid, depicted in Rings of Power.
It is implied the Dark Wizard is genuinely opposed to Sauron, since they have not made an alliance yet: it is implied the lack of orcs in Rhun is due to the Dark Wizard, implying he made a detente with the Cult of Morgoth.
@@rikhuravidansker The orcs didn't settle in Rhun because of racist redlining practices that stopped them from getting home loans. Also, it really sucks there. It's a desert. A race that hates the sun hanging out in a desert makes as much sense as.... as the rest of the show. Carry on.
@@hogenmogen8545 Many desert animals only come out at night, and Eastern Orcs DO live in Rhun: remember, orcs are described as "the (to Europeans), degraded versions of the least-lovely Mongol-types," which implies orcs are the ancestors of Turco-Mongols" - least-lovely would refer to Mongolians specifically, as evidenced by the physical appearance of Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan, as well as Turkic peoples, since Asians would view them as ugly due to a more European appearance.
Thank you for acknowledging the constraints the show has in navigating around the rights they can and cannot use. I would prefer for both to be Blue Istar, but then since the Stranger has proclaimed "they will call me Gand-elf" (rather than Grand-elf) does this not cause an issue? Considering Are the Blue Wizards referred to in The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings - Google AI search states "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Gandalf mentions the Blue Wizards and says he has forgotten their names. However, the inclusion of this line was controversial because the film production team only had the rights to use material from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings." AND "The Lord of the Rings - The Blue Wizards are mentioned in the lore and sources of The Lord of the Rings." So it is possible the Blue Wizards can be used - certainly if Peter J et al settled any legal issues with the estate that smoother over the issue they had had, creating an opportunity for A to use the Blue Wizards in the show.
It is possible that "Gandalf" will be used in the third season to dangle the possibility that the Istar only remembered the name "Gandalf," and that it is not HIS name: thus the possibility he is a Blue Wizard remains.
I think the Dark Wizard is indeed Saruman, and that the producers of this show are playing a huge prank on the viewers. I think the Wizards story is indeed taking place in the 3rd age, and the remaining stories are being played out in the 2nd age, thousands of years apart. We don't see any interaction between the wizards and the remaining stories. The Dark Wizard aspect might just be an early evil iteration of Saruman, which he outgrew later, repented was allowed to re-integrate with "the good guys", only to revert back to it slowly again, as we see in the LotR movies.
I still think he may be Saruman. The Dark Wizard's clothing and the type of staff he has is already coded to look reminiscent of Saruman. Their statement doesn't completely close the door to that possibility. I think they're trying to acquiesce the audience. I don't want him to be Saruman. I'd prefer this guy to be a Blue wizard. But I'm preparing for it in case so I won't be disappointed again.
It is possible they are giving out misinformation, but his appearance and personality being similar to Saruman can be explained because the Blue Wizards and Saruman went to the East.
It is implied he was always of morally dubious character: also, as apprentice of Aule he would have had a similar (but not identical), personality with Sauron, and to a lesser extent Morgoth.
I don’t care. This show is awful and the showrunners are horribly incompetent. I tried to watch it but it’s badly written, poorly acted, directed by 5 year olds but hey it looks pretty.
I agree Blue Wizard seems most probable! 😎

And such a good point about the potential for Gandalf here to take over the storyline of the good blue wizard!

the best comment here! 😄😄😆😆
“The dark wizard’s character shares no similarity with Radagast.”
Amazon: But neither does Galadriel, Sauron, the elf king or Elrond.

Great stuff from Strider as usual! So much insight. Definitely convinced that he's a Blue Wizard, and 100% not Saruman.

Saruman. The showrunners have zero surprises up their sleeves.
They don't know! They don't care! Saruman is from the movies, so it's him, because they do no care.

Can’t be Saruman. Saruman started out as Saruman the white and he was initially good.

What's the point on commenting on these videos if you think RoP is fan fiction trash?
