I especially liked and admired Mean Joe Greene and he hated the moniker in part because he was really gentle off the field, like Dr. Jekyll was a real gentleman when he was not sampling his own brew.

There is one from this era that I like which you didn't mention; Ron "The Dancing Bear" McDole is pretty funny. My all time favorite nickname for a player is Gilbert "The Gravedigger" Brown.

The Doomsday Defense was full of outstanding talent such as Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson who was as exciting as any at his position in that day. There was Cliff "Crash" Harris. Who finally made the HOF as he well deserved. There was Harvey "Too Mean" Martin, nobody was faster off-the -snap than #79. Then there are my two favorites. Ed "Too Tall" Jones. my 1st favorite when I became a fan of the Cowboys. And the one I call a human volcano. Randy "The Manster" White. Who emptied his bucket on every play. Played like his life depended on each snap. What a special group that was when they were all together. How Bout Them Cowboys.

Where he's in his 3-point stance ready to charge. he was not the pass rusher that Harvey was. But Big Ed was stout against the run. And I don't who had tipped more passes than #72. That defense was at it's best int the 77 playoffs. Much of it was due to Too Tall playing the best football of his life. And I don't know why he is not in the Ring Of Honor. That needs to be corrected.
Perhaps it was because he retired due to his contract demands not being met. He boxed professionally for a bit, then returned, but perhaps the damage was done.

Why it really stuck was that he was the hardest hitting player in the league. Getting hit by him was liking walking the railroad tracks and getting hit by a night train. They actually had to change the rules, because the league thought he might kill someone. He hit with his whole body and then reached up to yank the face mask in case he missed. Legal at the time. He also invented the cornerback blitz. Didn’t tell anyone, just saw his opportunity and took off leaving his man all alone.

Talk about nicknames how about those " Purple People Eaters " of the 1970s Minnesota Vikings! Alan Page, Jim Marshall , Carl Eller and Gary Larsen. Jim Marshall once recovered a fumble and was so excited or disoriented he ran the wrong way for a touchdown. Alan Page went on to have a successful career as an attorney and a Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court. They happen to have a lot of nicknames. Look at the Patriots. How many nicknames? Lions? Most of the teams that had a lot of nicknames in the '70's seemed to be the ones with the best records. I'm not exactly sure why that is.
Hollywood Henderson ❤😮 wasn't there a nickname for the Atlanta Falcon's mid 70's defensive coordinator. Really catchy and apt. Because they were the best defensive team of the 70's in 77'. Unfortunately, they were also the worst offensive team along with the 76' Bucs.
"The Gritz Blitz" was the name of the Falcons defense. I really wanted to feature Hollywood Henderson, but due to time constraints, he will will have to wait.
Let Roger listen to the Offensive Coordinator talk to him before each play, give him the ability to throw the ball away without penalty when outside the tackles, allow him legalized holding, the option to slide when scrambling without fear of getting drilled and ridiculous rules designed to protect the QB and I think Roger would be #1.

You're exactly right! They re-used so many photos of players throughout their careers. I showed Bubba Smith's cards in a video not too long ago within a video. It's shameful. Heck, for their baseball cards, they weren't any better; they used the same photo for Hank Aaron 3 years in a row. Really???

The funniest part is the guy, trying to not laugh, while helping the poor dude off the field. I never saw anyone stand up Csonka like that, one-on-one, like Mike Curtis did in that game.

Falcon’s Harmon Wages (5) was also known as “Charmin’ Harmon” due to his good looks. He once scored a “hat trick” - scored three TDs in one game vs the Saints; one by passing, one receiving, and one rushing TD. But he was often in Coach Van Brocklin’s doghouse.

The Lions had The Silver Rush at the end of the '70's. The Dolphins had The Killer B's in the early '80's and they may have been the last.

McDole was a very good player with an equally good nickname. Gilbert was a load - hard to handle in the middle of that defensive line.
To the best of my recollection,, many of these players were predominantly 1960s era players and a few were strictly 1960s era players..
All of them played in the 1970's, but you're right. The majority of the players played a good portion of their careers in the 1960's.

It's funny. I remember Dave Hampton as a Packer, running with Anderson and Brockington.
Anderson and Hampton combined for 1,064 rushing yards while Brockington lead the NFC with 1,105 in 1971. Great 3-headed attack.

I remember I had a Sport Magazine in the 70's that had Roger Staubach on the cover. It called him a triple threat he could run, pass and walk on water. LOL. Roger the dodger.
His scrambling drove Landry crazy and he feared for his physical well being, but he knew that he was a huge difference maker.
Talk about nicknames how about those " Purple People Eaters " of the 1970s Minnesota Vikings! Alan Page, Jim Marshall , Carl Eller and Gary Larsen. Jim Marshall once recovered a fumble and was so excited or disoriented he ran the wrong way for a touchdown. Alan Page went on to have a successful career as an attorney and a Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court.
It's really fun to see those old games at Municipal Stadium in Bloomington once dubbed " The Giant Erector Set"

They happen to have a lot of nicknames. Look at the Patriots. How many nicknames? Lions? Most of the teams that had a lot of nicknames in the '70's seemed to be the ones with the best records. I'm not exactly sure why that is.

Hollywood Henderson ❤😮 wasn't there a nickname for the Atlanta Falcon's mid 70's defensive coordinator. Really catchy and apt. Because they were the best defensive team of the 70's in 77'. Unfortunately, they were also the worst offensive team along with the 76' Bucs.
"The Gritz Blitz" was the name of the Falcons defense. I really wanted to feature Hollywood Henderson, but due to time constraints, he will will have to wait.

Let Roger listen to the Offensive Coordinator talk to him before each play, give him the ability to throw the ball away without penalty when outside the tackles, allow him legalized holding, the option to slide when scrambling without fear of getting drilled and ridiculous rules designed to protect the QB and I think Roger would be #1.

Topps was too cheap to pay for the NFL licensing that allowed for the helmet designs/team logo to be depicted.

You're exactly right! They re-used so many photos of players throughout their careers. I showed Bubba Smith's cards in a video not too long ago within a video. It's shameful. Heck, for their baseball cards, they weren't any better; they used the same photo for Hank Aaron 3 years in a row. Really???

That fan that got pummeled by Mad Dog, Mike Curtis, cracks me up every time I see it. I was watching that one vs Miami, 1971, and saw it happen in real time. The funniest part is the guy, trying to not laugh, while helping the poor dude off the field.
I never saw anyone stand up Csonka like that, one-on-one, like Mike Curtis did in that game.
