Hi. In Malaysia, we cook jackfruit flesh in coconut milk, onion, garlic, chilli, lemon grass etc and serve with rice. I want to try cooking jackfruit flesh so will try this recipe. Thank you for posting!
Forget to mention if you don't like spicy food. Don't add the jerk seasoning to the bbq sauce. Also if you use our jerk spice recipe you can omit the cayenne pepper or you use one 1 tsp. You can use two cans of jack fruit if you can't find the King oyster mushrooms. Just pour the jerk seasoning on the jackfruit you can do the same thing with the king oyster mushrooms. If you are having trouble finding King Oyster Mushrooms and Jackfruit check out a local Asian Market near you.
I am a meat eater but open to adding great dishes. I had jackfruit nachos at a vegan place in Kona a while back and was shocked to find that I liked it better than meat/dairy nachos. It was the epiphany of the jackfruit and the cashew cream. I pigged out and didn't feel awful afterwards. Now remembering I want to learn to make it myself!
Thank you all for this recipe! I can't wait to try it....I love how detailed you all were with the recipe! I know it's going to taste so good. I'm about head to the store in a few 😊
IM SO EXCITED TO TRY THIS OUT!!! I am working on cooking meals that are seamless meat replacements for my boyfriend who is a meat lover. I know he would benefit from a plant-based diet and this looks like the perfect addition to help him transition! Thank you so much!
Just went vegan and this is my favorite. Holy this was amazing I can't belive how much it resembled puller pork. It actually had a better flavor. Thank you
I made this yesterday and it is DELICIOUS, my family and I loved it! Thank you for thorough instructions, I followed them almost exactly - I added Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce and a small amount of mild Jamican Jerk seasoning - yum 😋
Thank you for the time and effort, you have allocated to this particular recipe. I will certainly use this method. It is rather endearing. And know that it will tantalise the palate!
Never thought to add mushrooms to the jackfruit!!! The jackfruit is definitely sometimes too "soft or mushy" even after sauteing it and baking it. So this is an awesome idea! Thank you
@@TWOMODERNVEGANS I did! I had to lessen the amount of cayenne in the recipe because it was way too spicy for my taste but the jerk is overall well seasoned! I will be using it in the future
@@corey01 I made some earlier but not sure I like the texture, too soft to resemble meat. I'm going to try making it different ways and see if I like it. Yeah let me know how yours turns out.
@@KLa35 yeah mine was very soft too. I put it on burger bun and eating it was a mess. Tomorrow I'm gonna bake the remainder on some parchment paper - I'll keep you updated
Looks Super Delicious!! Will love to try it. Just hard to find Jackfruit in Brine. I find the Jackfruit in syrup that is sweet, but that is not the same one.
My husband loves to grill jerk chicken and fish. I can’t wait to tell him I want jerk jackfruit! I’ve never had jackfruit. Excited to try it the next time he grills.
Omg.. I tried it! It was so good! I wish I could share a pic because it looked and tasted so good! I love the spice I used Baby Rays honey bbq so it was a sweet and spicy taste so good! Anyway that jerk paste is so good! Thanks 😊
YUM!! Damn, I just made this for the first time and it’s really delish! I’ve made jackfruit dishes in the past and I could never get over the briney taste that I couldn’t seem to get rid of. I love pickles, don’t get me wrong, but the brine taste was always overpowering everything. It was killing it for me. This recipe is seriously fire, spicy and smokey in the best of ways, flavorful, and good texture. I am going to make a triple batch next time to freeze and save. So good!
@@HisGraceIsSufficient555I’ve heard of that method also, but I haven’t tried it yet (lazy lol). I wanted to try this recipe first the way it was before I tried boiling but it was seasoned so well it truly didn’t need it. I also air fried some the next day to heat it up for my sandwich and the texture was even better!
@@dsonice3228 I understand. Lol. Ok, that’s a good tip on the air fryer. I will have to try that. I’m new to this and trying to figure it all out. Don’t know how I would do with this lifestyle change without TH-cam. Lolol.
I’m SE Asian and grew up with parents who cooked w jackfruit 3-4 times a week since I was born. A lot of these steps are unnecessary. We literally just cooked it in a pan and added the seasoning/sauce etc and came out great. My favorite was when my mom made jackfruit stews in the crockpot. Much easier to soften & flavor some jackfruit that way. Also w the king oyster mushrooms, it’s much easier to shred them before seasoning & cooking. They’ll actually absorb more flavor shredded and slow cooked w the jackfruit.
This looks delicious! We are having a quarantine tropical barbecue party tomorrow with my family that lives in my house and I think this just made its way onto the menu!
Wow! It looks Amazing! I can see it takes quite a bit of effort to achieve. I don't mind because I spend a lot of time in the kitchen:-) I take it you live in NYC? I lived there for 5 years and there is nothing you can't find in NYC when it comes to culinary ingredients. What about those of us who don't have access to King mushrooms? Are there any substitutions? Regarding Jackfruit, do you buy it fresh or out of a can? If fresh, could one use canned Jackfruit if fresh is not available?
Oyster mushrooms work best as an alternative and we use canned jackfruit. Local asian workouts and now local grocery store chains are starting to carry it more due to the populartity of plant based foods. 😊 We live in NYC and Philly.
Hi! This looks great! I'm getting ready to make it tonight and I'm very excited! I had a quick question, I'm looking to make it as oil-free as possible, for the Jerk paste, do you think it would still work ok if I used water or an oil/water blend to mix the spices together and create the paste? Thank you very much for sharing this recipe!
What do you mean by caramelizing during the baking part? Does it make it taste different or does the texture change? Was wondering what the difference would be if I don't bake it in the oven and just eat it from the stove top. Either way, trying this recipe, thank you!
The sugar in the seasoning start to break down in the oven during the cooking process which adds a slight crunch taste to the jackfruit and mushrooms. But you can eat it from the pan if you prefer it's still delicious either way. 😊
This very delicious😋😋😋😋 I am drooling 😁 I usually do mushrooms and onions are two ingredients that are never missing in my recipes🍄🍲🥗 Annotated your recipe😘✌🙏
do you have any suggestions of where to get the mushrooms? I have never seen anything other than white button and bella mushrooms. I would love to try other types.
I made this yesterday and it was first attempt at making vegan meat. I watched several videos and even prepared the actual fruit myself the day before. Super great recipe!!!!! I'm now following on IG too ;O)
