I was a Genesis kid and we only owned a few titles. Between Battletoads, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Eternal Champions, Dinosaurs for Hire, T2 Arcade and Evander Holyfield Boxing the game we played the MOST was Bubsy 1. It was frustrating but it was so much fun between myself and my siblings to see how far we could get. I think what gets overlooked is the music in that game. I still get it stuck in my head from time to time and that was one of my drives to keep going. Another great thing was the crazy variety of environments: Fields, Circus/Carnival, Wild West, Alien Spaceship. So much fun!
Zero Tolerance to this day is one of my favorites! Every time there was a sega collection compilation, I would cross fingers hoping this game would finally be added, but never was.
I love your positivity, and thoughtfulness. You can tell you love this stuff, and have definite opinions on it, but seem to be very open-minded as well. I really enjoy your reviews, and you do a good job of informing with bits that people may not know. I haven't played my Genesis in quite a while (probably decades), but I still have it. I'll have to look back and see if I have any Accolade titles on the Genesis. I'm pretty sure I had at least a few Accolade titles on the Commodore 64, and enjoyed them on there. Of course it's probably been decades since I revisited the 64 as well, but I still have it all, and have been meaning to revisit it. I remember playing Test Drive with a buddy on my 64 in High School all night until sunrise trying to beat each other's times, and see how far we could get. I think several weekends worked out that way. Great times! Thanks again, for your reviews, and videos. I really enjoy your channel.
Accolade was the definition of shovelware. All the HardBall games are complete garbage, make no mistake about that. You were very generous with your scores/rankings. None of these games are worth a play or owning. I do have both Bubsy games and they are the best of the bunch. Both would have a hard time qualifying as a C. Love watching you videos, appreciate your view.
I was waiting for Zero Tolerance to come up, and wasn't disappointed! I remember playing this game with my brother using the link cable. Hours of good times back in the day!
I actually liked bubsy back in the day. It wasn't as good as Sonic, but I still spent a lot of hours playing it. Definitely doesn't hold up as well today though.
I’m the same, I rented it a few times. It seems it’s just popular to hate on it, rather than it being actually that bad. There were a lot worse games on the Mega Drive. I downloaded Bubsy 3D just recently to check it out. It doesn’t hold a candle to any of the better PS1 one games, but again, it’s not that offensively bad. It’s just at a lower standard, but it’s not unplayable as people make it out to be. On first try anyway.
I hated it since the first time i saw it. Mostly because an envious neighbour had it and was like "omg this is much better than sonic" (he had a snes and I had a genesis). Then i played it and hated it even more.
i stuck around for the Zero Tolerance ranking .. Glad you ranked it an A ... I def agree played this as a kid and was hooked ! Right up there with the game , Outlander , experience i had
I discovered your channel recently and I am hooked. I rented most of these games as a kid. I had no way of knowing if they were good or not until I was stuck with them. It takes me back man.
Combat Cars, such an underated game & banger of a soundtrack. Fun Fact: the Russian pirate game market took it and re-de the sprites as a Fast & Furious game 😂
Excellent video, and thanks again for the shoult out! I definitely seem to be in the minority when it comes to Brett Hull Hockey - I thought it was below average, but most seem to think it's higher up than that. I should give it another shot!
I only know the great Accolade from Test Drive 1 and 2 for DOS (RIP Egghead software on 3th and Madison downtown Seattle, and Northgate way in North Seattle.) Thanks for another great video, John!!!
PC port of Summer and Winter challenge were installed nearly on any computer here in the Czech republic when I was child. I talked about the individual disciplines with my girfiend yesterday.
Yeah I was surprised I actually have one of the games on this list I have Brett Hull hockey 95 I might stretch it to a b. Like the first time I played I was surprised this actually as good as it was especially if you pick the Saint Louis Blues obviously or the LA Kings
Wow! Zero Tolerance! Talk about a game I loved but completely forgot it existed. I actually rented it twice from Blockbuster just so I could finish the story mode.
Hey, good day, man, I played Hardball III in PC. It was the best baseball game for me. I liked all the modifications and commentary. Anyways, John...can I call you John... Well, I had a lot great memories with Hardball III... I remember my father observing my enthusiasm with baseball. Anyways, he eventually, as a gift and surprise, he took me to a Houston Astros game in the Astrodome. I played more than 100 hours of Hardball III in the PC... Already then, an awesome video, thank you, and be safe out there. 😎🙌👍
Woot Woot! I was mostly responsible for Barkley 2's front end. So glad you thought it looked better. I'll just take it for what its worth, lol. thanks!
Always wanted to give Zero Tolerance a try back in the days of Doom 1 and 2. The only Accolade game I had was Double Dragon and always thought it was a good version of the game.
i dont know if its just me but. BUBSY WAS AWEOSOME!!!!! takes some time to addapt, the mechanics were not fast for sure, but being able to "fly", retry the levels several times, the music, colourful world. Man, loved that game!
Fun Fact, I waited a Month to be able to finally rent Nhl, the first one, it was a big deal here in Canada. Bought them all until 1994, then rented 95+, cuz they were more of the same. I still play Nhl 94.
@@oasisbeyond It's alright to be more fond of NHL 94, but 96 is objectively the epitome of the series on the Genesis. It's true that NHL 95 was nothing but negligible tweaks in gameplay despite being an entirely new game engine, but 96 had the glorious reintroduction of the fighting mechanics, alongside noticeable improvements to injuries and penalty structures, amongst other added gameplay features.
SONIC was so big back then that everybody was trying to make their own Sonic., Bubsy, Aero Acrobat, Awesome Possum, Rocket Knight, Havoc, all of them did copy the sonic gameplay style, some were good and others not that good, even Jazz Jack Rabbit on PC was also based on Sonic
i remember my grandmother getting me 2 genesis games back in 1997. They were batman & robin and Mike Ditka power football. Firstly, I was completely out of genesis at the time and all about n64 so I had no idea there was a batman game (turns out, loved it. still own it today). Then Mike Ditka came in a yellow/green cardboard box, a cheap knock-off genesis cart, and had 1989 genesis launch title graphics. out of the two you can imagine which one I played. One thing I will say is that the passing was better than sports talk football. STF (starring joe montana!) was just an interception sim unless you played 2P. power football at least had a passing game. Watching you show off their unique cart design in the begining.... god, I can still feel the cheap texture hahaha
I just so happen to have 2 Sega Genesis (one is a Nomad will it still work?) but just one copy of Zero Tolerance. Might give it a try one day if i get another copy.
I like this guys accent + seems like a good dude i always had sega since I was like 4 i had the Master system i sure wish they would have survived the console wars
Do you know why Accolade games were so bad? Were they just like LJN or was there something else happening behind the scenes we aren't aware of? Was this committee think gone awry or something darker? If anyone knows I would love to hear about it.
True bubsy is bad when it come to die so so easy in it and the control handles could have as well but it's an decent game i used to play back on sega mega drive but the snes version is better and you can debug the game as well but can't on mega drive 😅
Bubsy is a great game in my opinion. Its a game i regularly go back to and i dont really die all that much. It helps to not think of it as a sonic clone especially since it has hardly any similarities other than the character moved fast. The game over all has never really felt like sonic or mario and i feel like the fact that people expect a platformer to automatically be like those games really blinds people to the game.... Its bubsy, it plays like bubsy and i guess people gotta get good
I don't think I played any of the Accolade games on Genesis. I had a few for Dos, though. Test Drive 3, one of the golf games, and the first Les Manley game. There might have been more, but that is what comes to mind.
Accolade must of had some kind of rental deal in the UK because looking at this list I realise I rented 4 of these games back in the day any that wasn't something I did often.
The most memorable Accolade games for me were Test Drive and Test Drive 2 for the Amiga. Played those games to death and loved them both, though I definitely preferred Test Drive 2. I guess Test Drive never made it to console it seems.
Wow, this one really took me back because it was some games that noone ever talks about and i literally haven't thought about for 25 years Thanks for digging them up. Barkley Shut up and Jam! lol what a title!

I still have my Zero Tolerance passwords too! Written on Post-It sheets! As a kid, I had much fun with this game... Best Ego-Shooter for Megadrive/Genesis!

"if you're looking for a below average platformer"
That's a niche market.
I love your positivity, and thoughtfulness. You can tell you love this stuff, and have definite opinions on it, but seem to be very open-minded as well. I really enjoy your reviews, and you do a good job of informing with bits that people may not know.

Thank you for your kind words and glad you like the videos!
Daaaang. A whole 18 games?! I'm ready for this, oh, Immortal One.
Bubsy is a classic, i love it.
I don't think it's that bad lol
@JC Denton bruh bubsy amazing legit
Accolade was the definition of shovelware. All the HardBall games are complete garbage, make no mistake about that. You were very generous with your scores/rankings. He hates alot of decent games. I mean their not all TMNT Hyperstone Heist but their not all Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde either.
I enjoyed it too, a lot. He was funny too.
I was waiting for Zero Tolerance to come up, and wasn't disappointed! I remember playing this game with my brother using the link cable. Hours of good times back in the day!
Ending on a high note.
Thanks for the great vid man! Keep it up... we love you!
I can't get enough of these videos.

As a kid Zero Tolerance was one of my favorites growing up. Great video John!
I loved Zero Tolerance. I remember renting it and all the Tremors movies one weekend. What a blast!
Good video and ranking of the Accolade games! I have about half of them! I won't mention them now!
Bubsy doesn't deserve the hate it gets, it's a fun game
I agree bubsy first game is pretty good true you die easy but I like it it's playable
I agree with your comments on Zero Tolerance, it is a very impressive game considering it is running on the Genesis.
I often forget that accolade published the very first double dragon on the genesis.
And it’s very good
I liked Bubsy on the SNES. I thought it was pretty cool.
Combat Cars has a wickedly underrated soundtrack as well
I always think that I’m the only one who really likes Bubsy 1. Not as bad as other games.
I dont understand the hate bubsy gets i actually like both 16 bit games and have a lot of nostalgia for them
This as a great channel, just discovered it and subscribed. Also, you have the greatest hats ! Loving that Altered Beast hat.
cool! I just got a renewed genesis in to play the classics! Model one Genesis! I feel like a kid again! thank you for the vids man!
Rock on!
@@johnhancockretro Thank you for the great show! Bro!
I had no idea that Barkley Shut Up and Jam had a sequel. Great video as always, John!
Zero Tolerance was one of my favorite games to rent back in the day. It is definitely at the top of my list of games to get right now!
Happy Mondays are for John's Videos!
Thank you!
Great video John, Zero Tolerance for the win!, played it on my megadrive back in the day, it's now also available on the Nintendo Switch eshop.
Zero Tolerance is a great game. Especially if you were into the Alien movies at the time.
Combat Cars, such an underated game & banger of a soundtrack. Fun Fact: the Russian pirate game market took it and re-de the sprites as a Fast & Furious game 😂
It reminds me of Thrash Rally on the Neo Geo which I used to love playing.

Oh Bubsy. The character no one wanted that refuses to die
Love these videos so much John. Do you think whenever you finish doing this for Genesis you;ll do something similar for Sega CD? Or other consoles?
Absolutely.
Lol your Bubsy reaction is awesome.lol
I really enjoy this channel. A perfect example of what a good retro game channel should be.
I had no idea about the publishers and phone directory! I always learn something new from your videos!
Thank you!
Oh my god this was a wild ride of a video. Loved every minute of it.
I only know the great Accolade from Test Drive 1 and 2 for DOS (RIP Egghead software on 3th and Madison downtown Seattle, and Northgate way in North Seattle.) Thanks for another great video, John!!!
You are most welcome!
Zero Tolerance is an amazing game I enjoy it I bought it cib a few years ago
Loving your channel dude! Keep up the great work!!🤘
Thanks! Will do!
That Bret Hull Hockey is best played on the SNES the view they use plays better.
Your videos have provided a sufficient amount of viewing pleasure. I therefore will subscribe.

R.C. Pro Am is the absolute best!...Yesssss!.....the animation of the player at bat in 95 looks really good man.

Star Control is a masterpiece.
WOW!!! Hardball 95 pitching and batting animations are extremely impressive.
I have NEVER seen that Brett Hull Hockey game before. Interesting.
Who needs Al Michaels when you can play as Mike Sweeney?
I loved some Accolade Games on PC (maybe it was C64). Stuff like Apollo 18 and Test Drive. Apollo 18 was incredible!
I love the odd shaped cartridges, makes them stand out from the rest. Figuratively head and shoulders above the rest so to speak!
Great Channel !!!
You are the best !!!
That basketball game was the first game i heard say a curse word. "Shut up and get the damn ball!" That blew my mind as a child.
As a kid I had much fun with Zero Tolerance!👍🏻

Didnt they release Star Control 1 on genesis, i got a copy of it.
Nah just looked at the box its balistic
Agree 100% about the Bubsy's. I tried so many times to get into them but the cheap deaths thing ruins it.
You're too harsh on Bubsy, man. Sure the games aren't great but they're still better than what they credit for.
Loved Bubsy as a kid!

It's not quite Doom, but I did enjoyed Zero Tolerance. The fact it was FPS on MegaDrive/Genesis was a major selling point!
