I am 65, from Bangalore, India. Our TV channel used to telecast Lucy Show back in the eighties. Television was new in India, and we had just one channel. But some iconic shows were brought home by this one government run channel. My mother used to love Lucy and she would finish all her chores in time to be able to watch The Lucy Show. She never spoke English. But she understood Lucy so well and throughly enjoyed it without any of us having to explain anything. Miss my mom and her favourite shows. Thank you for posting this.
I don't think she's so much underrated as people don't know about her anymore. She was a highly successful actress with a lucrative career , but time marches on... What I can't understand is how someone fundamentally unentertaining (Kardashians) can be so famous? Surely humanity can't have changed so fundamentally in such a short time? Even 50 years ago, people appreciated talented performers exclusively. Still do to a point, but now many are entertained watching wealthy, spoilt, surgically augmented, beautiful women self obsess - & other pointless, shallow, uninspiring content. Wtf is going on? Edit: sorry for puking on you, it just crossed my brain.
What a debt so many of us owe Lucy, for the many hours of forgetful lighthearted-ness she gave us. She was never afraid to play the fool or look ridiculous. A brave, brilliant artist.
Fun fact: the ballet instructor, played by Mary Wickes, also was Sister Mary Lazarus in “Sister Act” and voiced Laverne, the gargoyle, in “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
Those of us of a certain age remember her as Miss Cathcart on “Dennis the Menace.” I once read that the last time Lucille Ball visited Vivian Vance when Vance was dying of cancer, Ball didn’t want to go alone, so Mary Wickes accompanied her.
Fun fact. She has hundreds of credits to her name, over 4 decades at least, & is a renowned master character actor. Not just 'in' a couple things the youngsters might know, to get some internet points. 🙄
@@hensonlaura I’ve seen her in other things, but those two roles stuck out to me the most. No, I am not trying to “get internet points,” whatever those are.
I went to Lucille Ball's memorial mass at a Catholic Church in Beverly Hills, California, in 1989. Lucie Arnaz came in with Carol Burnett. They were in the pew right in front of me. Mary Wickes, the ballet instructor, was in the pew just across from me. I could tell she was a devout Catholic as she was saying the rosary. The priest said that a "parishioner" of the church and lifelong friend of Lucille Ball arranged the mass. I have no doubt that that parishioner and lifelong friend of Lucille Ball was Mary Wickes!
Catholicism is idolatory and ritual. No religions enter heaven as they are man made. People must repent of sin from the heart, commit to Jesus ONLY and His Word, and be walking the narrow road with Him daily in order to enter heaven as He tells. (They must be born again of the Spirit).
@@lorihansen8674 Interesting! knew she was in the chorus line, but not that. She had solid status as an ingenue and a starlett; for a long time those were her roles. She really was breathtakingly beautifulin her twenties, but comedy was her genius.
@@hensonlaura And her physical comedy was a big part of that, and I think much underrated. There was an episode in "I Love Lucy" in which she disguised herself as an upholstered chair -- which meant she had to maintain a squatting position for several minutes, and maybe even move a bit that way. It was then that I realized her talent.
In the 90's I was standing in line at my tv rental shop & the tv's had Lucy on with the sound down, I was laughing my head off despite no sound, the man behind the counter asked if he should turn up the volume, I said No thanks, she is funny even with the sound down. She was genius.
If i recall correctly, Lucille Ball started out as a dancer. AS is evident in this and several other episodes of I Love Lucy. I recall seeing her in several specials in which she did waltzes and some other dances. Very gracefully too. then she would suddenly break into a comedic version of the dance. THATS TALENT!
Lucy was incredible, so perfectly funny. It must be comforting to know that when you are being silly, daft, cleverly athletic, and completely hilarious, that you look amazingly beautiful! I bet she was completely beautiful underneath all the makeup. How very lucky we are that can still watch this.
So so funny, could not watch her as a child, in UK only two channels to choose. These videos of Lucille make me laugh so much, thank goodness the world has moved on from only two channels in UK, not forgetting good old YOU TUBE.
Such amazing comedic timing and body control. She was a genius.

❤thanks for sharing your heartwarming, sweet story! 🤗🥰
Knowing English was unnecessary to understand what the episodes were about. The facial expressions were enough.
A lovely memory, made me smile 😊
Gosh… we didn’t get TV until the mid 70’s because we were on the Aleutian Island’s in Alaska. She came with the TV in Pennsylvania in 1978
That was very sweet.
When she joyfully breaks into the Charleston dance! 😊
Mary Wickes the teacher. A totally underrated actress and comedienne. Love to see her. Lucy is classic.

her accent is nothing like she normally sounds..great job!
She was an awesome character actress who was in many movies and tv shows. Love her in the 1962 Music Man.
I too love Mary Wickes. Was't she in "Now Voyager?" I also love Lucy.
💯💯💯@@hensonlaura
Lol she was so freaking funny ! I'm 62 and still love watching her humor! My Favorite show ever!! She is so missed!!
I’m 62.. I tried the “shoulders back, stomach in” thing when I was 15… tried it today and nearly ruptured a disc!😂
Wie ist ihr Name Lusy ......?
Lucy was actually a wonderful dancer and very athletic!
LOL! Every second of this is hilarious! Don't know how the other dancers could keep from cracking up.🤣❤
That’s all I keep thinking too! Talk about talent on so many levels 🤯
I love to laugh at these old episodes....they can sure cheer up a sad day.
Exactly!
What a debt so many of us owe Lucy, for the many hours of forgetful lighthearted-ness she gave us. She was never afraid to play the fool or look ridiculous. A brave, brilliant artist.
And for Star Trek!!!!
She gave us years of laughs. Bless her.
A movie star, model, and comedy is what we loved. She was so beautiful.
Incredible Lucy, a woman, a comedian, an actress, everything🎉

She was also in White Christmas and on an episode of M*A*S*H* ^^
And lucy's best friend in real life ❤@@jeniferclemente1252

I honestly don't know how people worked with her without cracking up lol. OMG she's so brilliant.
I'm looking at the other dancers and wondering how they are not creasing up!
@@beckyharding6571 I am pretty sure that there were 3-4 takes before everybody laughed it out and were able to keep their faces straight.😂

As a CA generational Catholic, this makes my heart burst 💕🙌🙏
I love her. It was so funny when she was yelling at her leg.
Lucy actually had to be quite limber and athletic to do this. She made it look easy. A wonderful clown!
Lucille Ball trained as a classical dancer.

Lucy fought her own legs 😂😂😂😂😂
She was hilarious!
She must have been a good danser to make movements like this.
This is incredible considering that she was actually a great dancer and had to look awkward when she was anything but.
I did not know that! Thank you!
Her Charleston was great. High kicks!
Wow, I sure did love Lucy. Still do. And always will!♥️💖💗❤️🩷🥰
The funniest show ever. Lucy is the greatest.
This is right up there with the chocolate factory. I wish I could watch entire episodes.
They are on paramount+
Pluto
And crushing grapes with her feet.
Lucy, a truly great dancer, breaks into the Charleston during ballet class for comic purposes!
Lucy was so amazing in I Love Lucy that anything else she did afterward was not good enough. It was a blessing but also curse.

Mary Wicks had the kind of career i admire, she sure kept going and going.
I love character actors , a lot of the time they're way better then the main stars .
her petite battement had me crying
petit [battement] - but, yeah, you are right.
Watching this after studying ballet is glorious.
She was so athletically gifted.

There you go Lucy! You got it!
I love Lucy ❤️ no one like her. The rest of the cast
Just hysterically funny! In real life, no teacher would ever have that kind of patience. :)

Mary Wicks was Lucy's best friend.

Amaba ese programa!!!!! 😍😍😍
WONDERFUL I LOVE IT THANKS FOR SHARE ❤❤❤

Lucy had to have had dance lessons. No one's that good without training, surely.
This is so funny. Lucy was a master! Maybe not of ballet though!

Very funny.😆
I love it!!!!!
Did Lucy ever get anything right? What a joy she was.
She had to be incredibly flexible to pull this off. I know she was a dancer but physical comedy is so difficult! I miss this type of comedy!

Is that the boss lady from the candy factory line where Lucy and Ethel stuff their faces to keep up?
No, this was Mary Wickes; Elvia Allman played the role at the candy factory (just checked IMDB).
@@rejoyce318 Thanks!

Brilliant comedic actress...she doesn't even have to do anything to be funny...
The instructor is the same person as the boss in the candy assembly line episode.
I thought so too, but I looked it up and it isn't the same actress.
