Hey, I have orthotic insoles and I had to slowly get used to them. I wouldn't be without them now. They straighten out his feet so well!

It’s amazing how straight Griffin’s feet were: that seems to have amazing potential for his balance and walking.

I have spastic diplegia cerebral palsy and when I was younger I actually had the same type of system. Except mine had a big plastic molded piece for my hips. As they were trying to prevent me from externally rotating the hip in order to compensate for weak quadriceps. I was born at 24 weeks gestation and spent 5 1/2 months in the Nicu and had a grade 3/4 intraventricular/germinal matrix hemorrhage. This caused me to develop spastic diplegia cerebral palsy so I’ve had many orthotics throughout my life and physical and occupational therapy as well. At 22 years old today I do not wear braces though because I’ve always found the painful. Even though I have physical therapist told me they shouldn’t hurt. Logically this is due to the fact that my foot is fighting the brace constantly. My current career goals in life are to get a masters of public health specifically in epidemiology and work with children and families with chronic medical conditions such as yourselves. Actually I’m currently in my undergraduate degree for child and family development with an emphasis in child life and a minor in biomedical sciences.

I’ve had them before they prevent either eversion or inversion of the feet. I’ve had these before and from what I remember they were really annoying then again I’ve never really liked bracing.

Why did you wait so long to get afo?

She didn’t. Griffin has had them for years. The metal cables are new and were recently recommended by a physical therapist.
