My husband picked up Duncton Wood for me as a kind of joke a few years ago, I ended up LOVING it. I never thought I would become so invested in a story about moles. I hope your month is going well so far.
I had to hit the subscribe button when I heard you defend Wuthering Heights as a love story. Can’t wait to see your full explanation, as I totally agree, but rarely encounter anyone taking that pov. Thank you for sharing!
@@ArtBookshelfOdyssey Yes! I was very excited to find it. Most of the stories included are new to me. I think it’s definitely going to be a highlight of my Victober this year.
I'm reading The Warden again and it always tries my patience. But I really want to read Barchester Towers, so I'm determined to get through it. I really liked Marion Fay, and that was my first Trollope. But boy oh boy, The Warden is the only book in the whole corpus of classics that I don't like. It's quite an incredible achievement on Trollope's part.
@@Bookslovejenna I am here sadly to report that I have once again given up on "The Warden". I picked up "Caleb Williams" by William Godwin instead and felt myself put into a sort of trance. I'm loving it so far.
I too have a complicated relationship with Thomas Hardy, I did read Return of the Native and liked it. If you didn't like some of the Barchester series, I don't think you will like the last book. Read a synopsis of it. But if you do read it, you may not be sorry. It completes the story of Barchester and its outward residents. Please read The Way We Live Now by Trollope, That was last years group read. He has about eighty books. How am I to get to all of them? They are chunkers.
I've been wanting to read Hardy but I'm a little intimated since I've heard conflicting things about his themes. Whould you mind telling me what were some of the elements you didn't like about his works? Would you recommend starting with Tess of the d'Urbervilles? (I own a copy 😅) Great selection of books for october!
@@sds7613 Hardy is a terrific writer. You feel deeply for his characters. He does not treat them well. There’s not much hope in most of his books. It really depends on the reader though. If you like books you want to throw across the room in outrage - some people do :) then start wherever you like with Hardy - except Jude the Obscure. That’s a tough one for anyone. If you like redemption arcs then I wouldn’t start with Tess. She’s treated poorly throughout and that never changes. It’s worth a read - again, he’s a fabulous writer - but her story is really tough to read. I’d start with The Woodlanders, The Trumpet Major, or Mayor of Casterbridge. And don’t trust Hardy with the hearts and lives of his characters. Never trust him. :)
@@Bookslovejenna Thank you so much! I think I can deal with such stories much better if I'm prepared ahead of time! And I do want to experience Hardy's writing. I read the synopsis for the books you recommended and I think I'll start with Woodlanders.
Man and Wife is so good! And Wylder’s Hand, too! The Grey Woman and The Poor Clare both play with form 😊

Elizabeth and Her German Garden is hilarious! 😂 If I’m remembering correctly. 😅 I can’t wait to hear more of your thoughts on Wuthering Heights.
You’ve made me so excited for Victober/fallish reading! Happy Autumn, Jenna! 😁♥️🍂🍁🕷️🕸️🐦⬛🖤🍁🌻
@@amyofhearthridge Yay! I love Autumn and Winter. I’ve been waiting to get here all year. 😂🍁🍂
That was a fabulous TBR! I've added so many books to my wishlist! 😊
@@zombieprincess82 So pleased to hear this! Thank you. 🙏
That Victorian ghost story collection sounds great!

Autumn by the Sea, Broken Hearts Bakery, and Esme Cahill are ALL fantastic reads!!
I looooove the Dark is Rising series! Very creepy retelling of Welsh mythology etc! ♥️So atmospheric!

You must watch Sherlock. It is soooo good, and I had zero expectations for it.
Jeremy Brett is my favorite Sherlock actor. Unhinged. 🤣
I love Veronica Speedwell!
