    Thank you for stopping by! In this video, I'm creating on an 8x8" cradled wood panel. I'm using acrylic paints and a variety of mark making tools.
    My work is inspired by my love for fields of flowers. You'll see me create it from start to finish. There's no music, however, you'll hear me talk through a lot of my process and discuss products/tools that I'm using.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and travel a couple of times a year to Preko, Croatia (where my parents live). I started painting in 2012 and focused on abstract art in the summer of 2015. YES!! I find listening to Don and Wendy Francisco's music or Elevation and Maverick City songs which I have on CD's has always loosened me up and launched me into great painting sessions! Also, sermons from Elevation church1-altho I must keep a notepad handy to jot down things that come to me as well.

    Hey Betty, huge fan of your works ❤️ if I may, could i request you to make more such vedios where you work on smaller canvases like this wooden panel, or even paper, or concertina books , because when you show work on small scale it's much less intimidating and much more easier to follow, especially for someone like me. I hope I'm not asking for too much ☺️. Please have a happy and beautiful day just like your artworks ❤️❤️❤️

    Yep, when I'm creating, I have to have something on. I usually don't care if its music or spoken. I have tinnitus, & I need to have something to help keep the ringing in the ears from being overbearing when I'm painting.
    And I really had to chuckle. At one point I kept thinking 'needs more green" & at another 'needs splatter', and whaddya know, you did just that!

    • @BettyFranksArt
      @BettyFranksArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha...I love that we were thinking the same! Sorry about your tinnitus. I can't imagine how difficult that must be for you. It's good that listening to something helps distract you from the ringing.

    • @BigMoepar
      @BigMoepar 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BettyFranksArt we all learn to adapt. Sometimes its just a longer process to find out what you need to do to figure out how to manage something like tinnitus.
      Took a while to get hubby on board with some of it. Harder for him to realize just what makes it miserable, and to remember that. He's catching on.

    Love your work, Betty. I plan to create a beautiful painting while watching this video and wanted to ask you a question. After finishing the painting, would I then be able to sell it as one of my own original works or would that not be allowed?

    • @BettyFranksArt
      @BettyFranksArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Deborah! Great question! Although it'll be your own original artwork since you created it, you'll be copying my style. I hope that you'll eventually find your own voice in your artwork. That being said, I have taken a workshop, created art using the techniques I learned, and then sold it. So, it's been done (by me and others), but it's not encouraged. Looking back, I realized that I shouldn't have sold those pieces. I hope that helps! Keep on creating!

    Just a quick note on Nova paints. If you are Canadians, beware of shipping and duty fee. I purchased $200 US of product, was charged $42 US of Shipping… to then get a bill from UPS for $96 CAD. So no savings at all for these paints. Could have bought the same quality at my local art store. Very disappointing.

    I have a question, when you are starting with mark making, are you using a crayon? wouldn't this interfere with the water based acrylics? Really enjoyed watching your video.

    • @BettyFranksArt
      @BettyFranksArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use pencils and crayons when I start. The acrylics cover them and with the water-based crayons, they smudge a bit. It's all part of my process. Thank you for watching, Adele!

    I would recommend that beginners Terri on paper first before putting money into canvases. Best to practice first to get an idea of what you are doing or whether this even resonates with you.

    So engrossing watching you paint. Question: I understand the dark/light reasoning, but what about contrasting colors like your orangey coral with the teal/turquise next to each other? Also white is the lightest of lights, but how does one get a true light without white? I mix in white to get a lighter tint, but doing this dulls the brightness, I think. Feedback appreciated. Thanks again, Betty for the video.

    • @BettyFranksArt
      @BettyFranksArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All good questions! Your eye will first travel to the point where the values are the most extreme. Then color comes into play next. Placing complimentary colors next to each other will create a bigger impact. It's all a matter of playing and practicing. I often like to look at other artwork and ask myself what draws me in? I try to get really specific...like the contract or colors of mark making. This helps me better understand what is working about a piece. I hope that helps!
