Oh man, you're bringing back some of the fondest memories of my entire life. I used to suit up in the middle of the night just to bomb through the snowmobile trails on my 1985 Suzuki QuadSport 230. I remember riding through the falling snow pretending the snowflakes were stars and that I was weaving through them like a Star Wars movie. I was around 14 years old, and it would be impossible for me to tell you how much I loved riding that beautiful machine. Sometimes, I would bundle up in the middle of the night just so I could go down to the barn and look at it and sit on it. That's how much I loved that quad. I eventually traded in for the QuadRacer, but soon after, I regretted doing so. There was just something about the 'Sport that touched a soft spot on me. I can't describe it. Thanks for posting this. I truly appreciate it. 👍
I just picked up an LT230 GE that has been siting in my neighbors yard for 10+ years for free! Took me 2 weeks but I got her running and she runs like a champ!
I had one, I bought it brand new. I rode it every day for 2 years, hot, cold, rain or snow. I’m not one of those guys that live in the past thinking about glory days , but those years were the best
It’s the one I grew up on and the only quad I ever owned I did things and went places I wouldn’t attempt today it was an amazing and fun ride thanks for the memories
I think you love the quad for the same reason everyone loves it, it’s a quad that ways just over 300 lbs and makes about 37 horsepower, the suspension is comfortable, it drifts good, nice semi auto transmission, and high redline can put a smile on anyone’s face
Thanks! They're awesome little ATVs that totally are able to be "thrown around." They don't make em like this anymore! I had this one for a number of years but I ended up selling it. They always come around so I'm not worried about getting and restoring more!
Ya i bought my 230e for $50 put a new build on the top end and she runs sweet. Just found a 230s finally got it for $100 it ran but blowing some smoke Plastics good seat trashed just got the top end done everything else looks good . Great machine thats wy you still see them poping up here and there There tuff and reliable they were way ahead of there time these are were the racing four wheelers of today derived from back woods apocalyptic machines...
We used to throw some light chains on the back tires and let her rip. I don't remember what model we had but 230 somewhere between the 84 and 86 Best of times.
Just bought an 86 last night... It's the quad sport with clutch but it doesn't run, kicks over nice and smooth though and good shape. Stored for 2 years, should be some easy carb work... I like utility quads better so I'll fix it up and prob sell it if your interested. I live in Michigan. Fun video
I just pick one up for free and I grew up on one back in the day and I had a blast and I said I was going to have one and I got in cuz I was on the hunt for one since I was 16 and when I saw it was for free I jump in my truck and pick it up didn't care if it ran but I got home with it looked it over saw there was a wire off for the spark plug hook it up pulled the cord fired right up
Good video. I love the classics. I have two 230E's. one all original 1 owner (woman). The other is in process of full restoration. Your right there getting harder and harder to find.
I have an 86 quadsport LT230S i bought it for $300 and didnt run with no plastics, wrong gas tank, wrong seat, bad brakes, bad front wheel bearings, no light fixtures, pretty much ran ro the ground... One day this spring, I hired a mechanic to give it a few hours of work to try to start it... I couldnt believe the mechanic got it started actually... But the clutch was burned out in it, so put a new clutch in it, oil change, carb rebuild, new air filter, new correct used gas tank, seat, light fixtures, handle bars, brake pads, repaired hole in exhaust muffler, ground off all the rust off muffler and frame, touch up frame and repainted the muffler... Liika almost like new now with exception to the missing plastics which are now just delivered in a box... Need to bolts and hardware still but its been almost as much fun bringing back to life from the scrap yard as it is doing barodies in the snow ;)
The '85 QuadSport was the one I had. It had a manual transmission with a hand clutch. I used to go riding on the snowmobile trails in the middle of the night in New England, and I so loved that machine. It's impossible to put into words how much fun I had with that quad.
I have one of those I have swamp foxes on the back in the black fenders are not on the front but my stock tires are bald on the front it's at for 20 years and we got out again for me to ride I love your video you should do some more mudding videos that would really be good
We have the same quad 1988 Suzuki LT230 our oldest son rides a 1984 Honda 200s three wheeler I ride a 1997 Polaris Trail Boss 250 my wife rides a 2006 Kazuma Falcon 110 our youngest son rides 2 Manco Dingo Buggys our youngest son and I race a 2 seater Silver Fox Buggy a 2 Hammered side by side buggy a Alsport Trisport three wheeler 8hp Briggs Stratton 300cc they are a blast in the snow
I noticed a lot of peoples rattles like this it’s all the exhaust cover I swear 99% the time that back clamp screw vibrates out stick something in there no more rattle every time
Hey there! there is a utility 230 at a local auction, it say it runs good, and it looks very good, no cracks in the plastic, and the seat is good. How much do you think it is worth? im in ohio if that matters. Love your videos by the way!
@@WeTryMotorsports Thanks, I think ive got a budget set now. If you don't mind could you describe some of the difference s between a sport and utility?
@@ryanhawthorne7893 man that's a whole can of worms. for starters the utility from the 80s has no rear suspension. it's also low geared. the sport vs the utility 230 looks way different as well. really the only thing they share is the motor, the rest is totally different.
When you want to put it in reverse do you have to shift down to natural? Am getting a lt230e today to fix up and keep. There really is not much information on these atvs on youtube

What did you do to get it running @deathraydave

it makes about 12hp and can maybe max out at 20hp. LOL "It makes like 37hp" SMH
This bike never made over 15 hp stock...
I had the one with the manual clutch. Boy, I loved that thing.
I just picked one up a month ago and now I’m rebuilding the top end lol

I'm about to look at a 90 lt230 and it's mint condition no issues for 500 bucks. Should I snag it?
I’ve got a 86 quadsport, which I crashed, but I plan on fixing it soon
Love this buying one hopefully this weekend love old quads they are tanks

I have the same one and I love it!
I have a Suzuki 125lt its great!
My 1985 quad sport does good in snow as well
Im fixing an 85 quadsport right now

I have one and I love it
i have same exactly atv 1987 LT230 its so best i bought for 100! its the best!!
Me during this whole video: yes yes, now stop making me jealous.
I have one of those I have swamp foxes on the back in the black fenders are not on the front but my stock tires are bald on the front it's at for 20 years and we got out again for me to ride I love your video you should do some more mudding videos that would really be good
had my 230s for a while now and its just a ton of fun learned how to ride with a clutch theres nothing like it
right on!
I have same one I'm 245 pounds and it still rips me around
We have the same quad 1988 Suzuki LT230 our oldest son rides a 1984 Honda 200s three wheeler I ride a 1997 Polaris Trail Boss 250 my wife rides a 2006 Kazuma Falcon 110 our youngest son rides 2 Manco Dingo Buggys our youngest son and I race a 2 seater Silver Fox Buggy a 2 Hammered side by side buggy a Alsport Trisport three wheeler 8hp Briggs Stratton 300cc they are a blast in the snow
Man I’m bout to get one lol for $2000 super clean bike !
I just got one I love it it's a 1980s through 1989 I don't no the year of it I picked it up for $200
can't beat that price!
My favorite four-wheeler you can make the 230 sport a woods killer tgat know other four-wheeler can catch
i traded a mower for a ltf 230 the only thing i don't like is parts being harder to find
I noticed a lot of peoples rattles like this it’s all the exhaust cover I swear 99% the time that back clamp screw vibrates out stick something in there no more rattle every time
I bought one yesterday I need to get running. Is it automatic?
Following. Automatic or manual
Nope, semi auto, you have to shift, but no clutch lever go easy on shifter, that's expensive surgery if you wreck the shift mechanism
Is it adult size?
Hey there! there is a utility 230 at a local auction, it say it runs good, and it looks very good, no cracks in the plastic, and the seat is good. How much do you think it is worth? im in ohio if that matters. Love your videos by the way!
Thanks so much!!! The utility version is much different. probably worth 500 if it runs but it's ugly. 1000 if it's mint.

Yes you need to be in neutral to go into reverse
I just got one
Looks like an 86 the 87 had plastic around the head light ,what suzuki did is took the leftovers from 86 and called them 1987s
I found a deal for that atv that was 17 hundred do y’all think it’s a good price?
do you mean $1,700? I would only pay $700 ish for one.
@@jacobdavis2296 yeah I was thinking it was a bit much but thanks for the response
yeah bit pricy, look for 500-800 range if you can get them. anything around a G better be mint
That's a 230E Quadrunner, not a Quadsport. Still nice vid though!
I have the same one electric start pull start kick start reverse except it's an 87
That's the quadrunner the quadsport has a clutch
It's the sport edition of the runner (the other runner has no rear shock) You're right! Lt230e.
I have a lt 230 the engine is blown😢
Rebuild it
Throw a 550 in it
Take off the silencer it sounds soo good
What quad? All I see is a snow mobile
🤣🤣
I just bought one for $300
I paid 350;)
Boss Chile lol nice. Enjoy that

yes, you have to go into neutral, then slide that lever toward the rear on your left heel
