    If you're new to lifting and watching this, please please listen to this man. Do not main-gain or cut as a newbie if you are below 20% body fat. If you're skinny fat, you may even be better off in a slight calorie surplus. Stop having ab anxiety, build muscle first - you do not deserve abs, yet.

    Thanks to you and the "noble natty" channels I'm finally getting decent results, I trained for 2.5 years under a deficit and when I slimmed under 15% body fat, my torso was lacking muscle and looked just saggy, I started bulking 6 months ago and I look better now closer to 19% body fat than I did closer to 15% due to the muscle added, I am still scared to get fat again, but I'll see how far I can take it, it's a leap of faith, but so far it's been worth it, it has also fixed my relationship with food, I've been gaining 1kg of weight a month eating healthy sources, and my smaller jeans still fit my waist, but my upper body has changed shape. I wish I had started compound full body workouts and bulking earlier, when I was fully motivated

    I have "worked out" on and off severely for 5 years while maingaining. Made fk all gains.
    Went from 72kg to 82kg (175cm height) in that time and it was 90% fat gain, due to not giving a fk.
    Pulled my head in 6 months ago and decided to lose weight, hoping to see abs. I dropped from 82kg to 70kg in 13 weeks and what did I see, absolutely fk all. Borderline anorexic.
    Decided to finally bulk for the first time ever, yes I was scared of losing the abs I barely had. But I realised it's just not worth it, eventually I decided to send it and lean bulk at 200cal - 350cal surplus everyday and the odd 1000cal+ surplus accidently, 9 weeks later I put on 3kg of weight, the creatine and glycogen stores helped initially for the first 1-1.5kg, and the other 1.5-2kg have come from muscle and the smallest amount of fat that I didn't notice. Because I shit you not I look just as lean if not leaner than before, basically my bf% has not changed or has dropped slightly. Except now with visible muscle growth, even though it's been 9 weeks and only 3kg weight gain, I look way better and most importantly my abs are actually growing to show through the fat now and my body is starting to take shape. All the fat I thought I had is being dispersed around the muscles now, creating the illusion of looking skinnier. Definitely bulk if you havn't done so.
    I will definitely help yous out if needed.

    Good tips and the editing is on a whole new level. At what percentage of body fat do you recommend to stop the bulk and transition to a cut?

    • @polarityfitness
      @polarityfitness  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bulk to 15-16% and then cut to 10-12%. Repeat this process over and over. Body fat percentages are arbitrary but you’ll know when it’s time to start cutting. The point is just don’t transition to a cut when a little body fat accumulates.

    I had the same problem my first year but have currently been bulking for about 3 months now about +3 pounds so I think it’s going pretty well. I really thought that sudden changes would happen like I wound just wake up obese one day but I just adjusted about every month based off it I was gaining too fast or slow. After seeing a relatively slow gradual build up I’ve become way more comfortable bulking so for anyone afraid just know if you are gaining too much you can literally just lower your calories and get back on track you aren’t stuck

    My issue is that at 41 and wanting to focus more on overall health than on getting jacked, I find it really hard to actually eat in a surplus without having to eat bad foods and in turn end up with way too high blood pressure. Heart disease runs in my family and my worst fear is dropping dead of a heart attack...been lifting for about 2 and a half years and look way better than when i started but basically just worked my way to being skinny fat. Eating between 2000 and 2500 calories a day on average because thats all i feel like eating and my weight stays at 177 lbs (6ft 1in tall) and doesnt budge. I was 200 lbs when I started. So im obviously at maintenance now yet in all this time ive never been able to lose the fat around my gut and low back. If i try to be in surplus the only thing that gets bigger is my gut and love handles...if i try to eat less, the rest of my body just gets smaller....feels like a no win situation for me. However im always getting stronger at all my lifts so i feel like my workout routine isnt bad. Wish id have started this journey a lot sooner and also would have started out bulking. I tried cutting first because I listened to the wrong people starting out. At my age now i worry that my health cant handle a real bulk. Then again i see dudes way older than me that are also way bigger. Really feel stuck on what i should do. I want to actually look like I lift when I put a shirt on, but dont want to risk declining my health. Maybe im just overthinking that part of it. Id say at the very least 95% of my diet is whole foods...very little processed junk so I feel like health wise i really shouldn't be that bad off.

    • @polarityfitness
      @polarityfitness  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think your perception of what bulking is is wrong man. Eating in a +300 calorie surplus will not put a dent in your health. When I say that it’s necessary to bulk and gain a little body fat, I’m not saying get fat. It’s gaining weight to gain muscle. At your weight and height I would say 100% you should bulk. You could be 190-200 at your height, so if anything man, you are underweight.

    • @darkh3lmet82
      @darkh3lmet82 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@polarityfitness yeah I agree man. My goal has been to get back closer to my starting weight. I'm rock solid all over with muscle, just not big and like I said, really struggling with my belly never being close to flat despite obviously being underweight like you said. I've been following some of your lifting advice for about a month now doing way less volume with more recovery and have been hitting PRs every week. Really liking this method so thank you for your content bro. I feel like this is definitely the way. I'm going to try and up my calories by a few hundred a day and just commit to it for a while. Hoping for some good gains 💪

      what kind of fat around your gut? hard or soft? you are not at maintenance if you cannot lose soft fat. If it's hard fat, read William Davis's 'wheat belly'

    • @darkh3lmet82
      @darkh3lmet82 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heikorudi6105 I mean, it's fat bro. Not a ton, but even with my core flexed and sucked in there is a chunk of fat at the bottom of my belly that just won't go and the love handles are straight fat lol. Idk, but it has nothing to do with wheat because I'm borderline carnivore. Not super strict but probably 95% of my food is meat and eggs.

    • @kryptoniterazor
      @kryptoniterazor 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@darkh3lmet82 If you are concerned about heart disease, then a high-meat, high-egg diet is likely higher in salt and cholesterol than is ideal. I would consider adding some starches, grains, and fibrous foods like rice, potatoes, and greens to increase your calories for bulking without basing everythning on red meat.
      Losing the last bit of belly fat is pretty hard for everyone and *extremely hard* for a smaller group. If you are not already tracking your calories exactly with an app, give that a shot for your next cut. Very long, low-intensity walks/hikes (like 3-4 hours) are also good for burning hella calories without a ton of HIIT cardio.

I've gained probably an inch on my biceps since being inspired by you to focus on weighted chin ups over curls, in 2-3 months. And I'm just beginning, only with 15lbs so far. Do you think squats and deadlifts should be done majority of your training in the same week? I’m getting fatigued if I do squats on workout A and feeling like I can hit deads on workout B

    • @polarityfitness
      @polarityfitness  ปีที่แล้ว

      You don’t necessarily have to man. If it’s too hard on your recovery you don’t need to prioritize them both in your program. You can focus on either the squat or deadlift in a given training routine, and then use a less taxing variation of the other. For example, you can prioritize squats, and then focus on Romanian deadlifts or stiff legged deadlifts. If you want to prioritize the deadlift, you can focus on doing leg press instead of the squat. You can also train 3 times every 2 weeks. This would allow you to perform squats and conventional deadlifts in the same routine. It ultimately depends on what split you’re following, but this is what I’d do if training twice a week.
