6:24 - 7:36 In my humble opinion, Steve Wilson plays one of the solos that have the ability to penetrate my soul essence, inside my heart. There may be millions of guitarists and I appreciate it infinitely, but very few understand that the heart needs these types of guitar solos in order to rise out of a boring and predictable timeline. Basically the song is a structure with two parts (and their respective transitions) and an ending. This beautiful solo is from the second part. The first is rocker and with excellent scales with a progressive tint, while the second part: a calm sea with dolphins and whales.
I can't understand the secret of this man. During these years has been composing hundreds of stunning songs and kept the quality level of his productions on top. All bands and composers I know have a parabola during their career. After eventually masterpieces there are more or less good records. This guy instead hasn't had any parabola instead. His career is really flat and "boring". It's able to produce masterpiece only.
Antonio Novi he is a genius no doubt about that, I think his inspiration is carried and personalized by every great musicians he composed with, which gives an infinite talent :)
I think that it boils down to what motivates Steven. I know that in my line of work, nothing but the absolute best will do. It doesn't matter if I lose money on the deal, what matters is the end result. I think Steven is on the same wavelength.
Absolutely. I was apprehensive hearing his solo work in the beginning because no artist i knew had ever made great music after leaving their band and going solo. 5 albums later, this guy is still making stuff that can be matched with nothing else out there. Same amazing quality as with his earlier career. And he has worked on multiple projects besides PT. It is unbelievable.
Seen Steven many times. Truly some of the finest music the Western world has ever had to offer up. Steven is on my list of desert island musicians, along with folks like Mark Hollis and Level42.
Descubrí a Steven Wilson tan solo hace dos años, y no me equivoco en señalar que es lo mejor del mundo en ROCK PROGRESIVO!!!! Esta en permanente evolución y ascenso. Admirable su música y sus músicos !!!
This jam is sick!!!! I love that Steve Wilson goes on this fusion journey - love the keybrds - and his mellow moments are just so ethereal - love his melodies - he dose channel prog from the 70s without being derivative - always love his instrumentation - flutes or saxes - strings on ROUTINE! violin! love his voice - very british!! this music gets 10 stars in my opinion.
Fell in love with this song when Steven and the band showed a snippet of it in the 2015/16 tour rehearsal video. Hearing the full thing at the Royal Albert Hall last September was a treat among treats, just so damn special
chazblitz Radio doesn't even come close to play the ultra-complex pieces he produces. There will be too much loss in quality if trying to air his or PT songs. The same reason why thrash metal couldn't be aired over. Over 3g/4g network it's possible, so welcome to the present.
No deja nunca de sorprenderte este pibe, siempre en constante evolución. Un capo total, sino el mejor, uno de los mejores músicos de rock de la actualidad. Excelente, excelente.
+Ishaan Kochhar Yeah but, I mean, when other big music producers realese an album (or an EP), views are coming way faster... At the time I post this comment, 6 days already past... And if you look at other big (and aswell, many times, "shitty") productions, they already have like million views after that time. I just wanted to say that it is a shame that high quality productions like this are not more popular.
This is not your mainstream pop where you have views pouring in for whatever content is out. It's sad but yes the fans here feel and connect better to the music and however the amount, stick with the artists.
Been a huge fan of SW and PT for a while now, how did I miss this one? Seriously have not heard 70s style prog brilliance on this level since the 70s, this album is so far beyond amazing words fail. Literally played this tune like half a dozen times in a row, haven't done that since Yes put out "awaken", not that the two have anything in common besides awesomeness... 😍
I saw him last night, incredible talent. I met Nick, Adam and Craig they signed my Transience album. Beggs deserves his number 1 vote for prog Bass player. I have just worked out the words for this will post soon.
+Anita B The ending is also surely incorporating 'Sunday Rain Sets In'. The guitar follows closely, and the phrase 'When the rain sets in' is even uttered. Maybe he built the latter into this track before scrapping this one also?
+Big Mike Smalling Everything's possible ;) This track is, nevertheless, absolutely amazing and I'm very happy that I had the chance to see him perform this song live
+anitasrce You're right, it's a fantastic song. Steven just doesn't run out of ideas. Saw him play this live in Bristol, and he was flawless. Tied with Opeth for best gig i've seen.
This is so good! I just discovered Stephen Wilson from his David Bowie Space Oddity tribute to Bowie at the Hammersmith Apollo. Happy birthday to me. Looking forward to knowing his work better.
+Lady BlackStardust Everything he creates is a masterpiece for me, but the ones that really stand out are Hand.Cannot.Erase and The Raven that Refused to Sing.
The strumming does sound like time flies and the soft part has Sky move s sideways feel. I grew up listening to porcupine tree and i'd like to agree with you but the bass line is nothing like what Edwin would play , they have completely different styles.
I agree. To me the first solo sounds very much like a Guthrie solo. Especially the four little 'slide-ups' around 3:50, those scream Guthrie and Dave doesn't seem to do them live. Makes me wonder how recording this song worked out. If Dave re-recorded something Guthrie had already written but hadn't finished recording or something like that. Also interesting that there are three guitar solos in this song and Steven plays two of them.
Guthrie's playing is way superior! U have listened to the aristocrats right? Kilminster is a wicked player, fast and slick, but Guthrie is another level.
Love the production values. And the writing. And the arranging. And the instrumentation. And the performance. And the choice of personnel. And and and and. Also the nod to Neil Young lyrically. Please do a vid on the various plugins you use and production technics. Logic v. Pro-tools etc. To The Bone kicks ass on so many levels. My ears are quivering with delight! An aural orgasm, if I may be so bold. Don't take too long of a break between TTB and your next foray into the realm of the Muse. As David Crosby once said "Music is love". Love us.........
I'm pretty certain this song neatly fits on "Hand Cannot..." where "Routine"is, and actually makes the whole story fit together better; only problem is that "Routine" is arguably the best song since "Raven". Steven makes my head hurt. Can I go home now?
Was this "Song X" from the Boulder, CO gig in June 2015? Steven's tour manager handed me a set list after the show, and we stuck around afterward, and Mr. Wilson autographed it for me. It's proudly framed and hanging on the wall.
4 1/2 is an absolutely superb, interim album. I seriously enjoy every track on this record, much respect to Nick, Adam, Steven, Guthrie Govan and everyone involved on these songs!
+Andii Rejino its is but ive realised steven does this because he wants to create a song that is perfect. if he uses the same sounds and integrates into the song to make it flawless.

Agreed, this is one of my favourite solos.
@@hemanwalia5424 He has always professed his love for soulful guitar solos and this is definitely one of those.
Always original, never fails to amaze. Can't believe how talented this guy is. Hidden gem of British music
This nine minute long song makes you wish it was longer!

Ludwig Van Beethoven was also like that, only masterpieces to the very end.
To The Bone was kinda lame. But I agree with you on everything else he's done

That solo at 6:25 just fills me full of melancholy. Wistful melancholy.
reminds me the vibes of " The Sky Moves Sideways " album from porcupine tree
Just a cool, beautiful song. "Don't let it bring you down. Just wait till the morning comes."
Seen Steven many times. Truly some of the finest music the Western world has ever had to offer up. Steven is on my list of desert island musicians, along with folks like Mark Hollis and Level42.

Es un buen músico y productor

Mr. Steven Wilson, do the world a favor and never stop making music pls

Yes! This is the sound I love. So PT-ish. And Nick Beggs, that bass makes love to my ears. Damn it.
Fell in love with this song when Steven and the band showed a snippet of it in the 2015/16 tour rehearsal video. Hearing the full thing at the Royal Albert Hall last September was a treat among treats, just so damn special
Steven Wilson has out-done himself again. It's like when you think he can't top himself any more, he does.
I am always amazed at the genius of this man. Vermillioncore is an awesome piece. Can't stop playing it.
Vermillioncore should have been stretched into one of his iconic 8 to 10 minute long masterpieces It ends much too soon.
Just a great song , as usual from Steven Wilson
Hooked seconds in.....I feel like a fisherman who is getting reeled in by the fish...
Steven Wilson is so utterly gifted. 4 1/2 is yet another triumph.
Wow!! He did it again!! Superb!
I'd like to know why American radio has never played this guy's stuff?? Absolute genius.
chazblitz Radio doesn't even come close to play the ultra-complex pieces he produces. There will be too much loss in quality if trying to air his or PT songs.
The same reason why thrash metal couldn't be aired over.
Over 3g/4g network it's possible, so welcome to the present.
Generally too complex and sophisticated for the MAGA crowd.
UK radio never plays him either.
This is my go to track almost every day. It's simply brilliant, well done AGAIN SW
Great song - it has a real Todd Rundgren feel to it which can't be bad.
ooh he thought you wouldnt notice imo very elliot smith too
Can you name some Todd Rundgren songs similar to this?
@@ankihansen2489 I LOVE Todd, but he hasn't reached this level in a LOOONG time.
Ahh mr. Wilson is full of stories to tell. He keeps churning them out without sacrificing the qualitative nature of his art.

i just love it, it is like a mix of different PT and SW stages

eh, barely rings a bell.

Steven Wilson _/\_ ..Good to see fans of PT and steven wilson with the same Tempo..Magical music
How about a shout-out to Nick Beggs for some nasty bass playing?
Damn right, Beggs is an absolute beast of a bass player.

Some recognition for Craig's excellent drumming on this too. Discovered Steve Wilson in mid-2014 - never looked back since.

Wow. I didn't think anything could sound this good.
This music brings tears to my eyes.
Steve Wilson for Emperor of planet Earth!

Never has a bad one NEVER
Great tune, lovely solos
very interesting at the first listening!!
When the double kick comes in at the end of the song!
steve amazing. great performer
This is the closest Steven has drifted to the Porcupine Tree sound since they 'went on hiatus.'
True.
+Nolan Boyer Especially the middle section with the synths. Made me instantly think of Richard Barbieri and what he brought to the Tree.
The strumming does sound like time flies and the soft part has Sky move s sideways feel. I grew up listening to porcupine tree and i'd like to agree with you but the bass line is nothing like what Edwin would play , they have completely different styles.
I think he just got even closer to Porcupine Tree sound with his song "A Door Marked Summer"
Nolan - Are you the real bard?
Heard it live. The Song was fucking amazing.

Me too just last Saturday in Newcastle, amazing
Works sooo fkin good live!
I agree
First time I heard it was live in SLC, didn't even know he released this album until I saw them selling it at the stands haha.
Excellent. Once again.
Steven is a genius!!!!. This song sounds a little like Marillion.
Now that I hear it, that intro sure is A sign 'o' the times...

Apart from PT, I hear influences
ods to Yes and Rush in there
Yes, especially Squire's very active bass.
He has remixed some of Yes albums in 5.1 DTS, so...
Sometimes [once or twice on each cd] Beggs or whoever is on bass sounds very Squire-like.
Nailed it. : )
4 1/2 is an absolutely superb, interim album. I seriously enjoy every track on this record, much respect to Nick, Adam, Steven, Guthrie Govan and everyone involved on these songs!
how did you forget marco? by the way it's not marco and guthrie on this track he got some new guys and they're great

Great track. Didn't really get into Hand Cannot Erase but this is giving off a better vibe. Reminds of Raven that refused to Sing.
it's very chill this song

My pleasure Sarthak.
found my jam for the next week.
great sound! a best brand new.
the song remind me the Rush, but with a modern sound a bit elettronical, the prog is not dead
In the back of a taxi cab in London town
It's like watching TV with the sound turned down
'Cause I can feel it I've got a buzzin' in my head
And I'm on my way
I see the kids deserting ships like shopping malls
On street corners they ignore their girlfriend's calls
'Cause they got plans now and tonight they won't be home
All of this can be read
In my book of regrets
Don't let it bring you down
Just wait 'til the morning comes
Sore necks and teenage wrecks in subway worlds
And torn tights when drag queens fight suburban girls
But they don't care now 'cause they'll soon be safe at home
All of this can be read
In my book of regrets
Don't let it bring you down
Just wait 'til the morning comes
Under neon lights she walks home
Back to her apartment, oh a safe way
Harbored when she locks the door she could slip away
Looking out behind the curtains finding drugs she barely seems to notice
And the gas fire starts to buzz when the rain sets in.
In the back of a taxi cab in London town
All passed out and dreaming on the underground
Yes I'm someone but I'm no-one all the same
All of this can be read
In my book of regrets
All of this can be read
In my book of regrets
Don't let it bring you down
Just wait 'til the morning comes
just wait 'til the morning comes
I know that Guthrie and Marco were not at the concert in Calgary in 2015 but I think it was still a good concert

+Garrett Lappe Hi
I just put lyrics up for you all :)
haha I'm like wtf time flies?!!
I think 4.5 is a reference to 9. Some further clues:
Regret #9
The colour purple used on the album cover of Hand. Cannot. Erase. Purple Rain (reign).
No Twilight in the Court of the Sun / Twilight Coda
Time Flies / The Watchmaker / Clock Song
Voyage 34 (the next step after 33)
What does this all relate to?
SATURN (AKA Satan): The Black Cube. The Black Sun. Saturday. The number 9. 'Phoenician purple'.
The transmitter of the space / time illusion ("for the TIME BEING")
Satan: the prince of the air(waves)
Saturn 'The Lord of the Rings' (Nazgul: the 9 dark riders; SAURON "The all-seeing eye")
Nope, it just that it's an EP that was released in between his fourth and fifth full albums, making it "album number 4.5"
A fabulous track that I would have swapped with ancestral on HCE to make it a perfect album (life!)
The main calm guitar riff reminds me of Down by the River by Neil Young, if you don't know it try listen to it and then tell me!
Fighissima 😁
thanks a lot man.
Pleasure, mate.
That reverse piano in the beginning.
Hait sala kada 👌👌👌👌
