What a cutie!! I think he's very handsome!! ... You can tell that he's so nervous!! This was his first appetence on such a big, nation wide show! ... He swallows, and licks his lips over and over. As well as doing the first, dum, of, dum, dum, dum, dum, dowah. Making sure he's in time with the lip sync. ... Love this sweet, kind man and his voice!!
I’m 47… still no man touches Roy’s vocal for me! My parents said from when I was 2! I would go mad for Roy, when my dad would play his many records! It’s never changed changed for me! The most beautiful male vocal ever! ❤️
One of the most beautiful voices ever in music, one of those voices that seems like existed forever, and seems like you already knew it from somewhere even before you first heard it. It's like the first time I heard Sinatra or Karen Carpenter, as you hear it you think “ok, this is it, I've just met THE VOICE”. But whereas Sinatra seemed full of himself, Roy seems a genuine and sweet person. Looking forward to read his bio.
Wonderful early footage of Roy before his dark glasses era, this is how we first knew him in England. That special summer I'd turn our radio up to full volume, open the door and blast my street with Only The Lonly - nobody complained. Magic memories!
Great. Why ever did he have to wear those heavy, dark glasses when he had perfectly good looking eyes. Just see the effortlessness with which that beautiful voice comes out. What it is to be truly gifted!
John M. W. Smith Roy left his regular pair of glasses on a low-winged charred plane whilst on tour with the Beatles. The only glasses he had with him were the sun shades (mr. Raybans), they became a trademark shortly after that.
On this day in 1960 {Oct. 20th} Roy Orbison's "Only The Lonely" reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on the United Kingdom's Singles chart Four months earlier on June 6th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #2 {for 1 week} & spent 21 weeks on the Top 100... Co-composed by Roy; it was turned down when offered to the Everly Bros. and Elvis Presley, so he recorded it himself Nine years later in 1969 Sonny James covered it; his version reached #1 on Billboard's Hot Singles chart
Jay Black, specifically. He and Roy were friends, and Jay tells a story about him saying to Roy, "I sound like you", and Roy replied "No, I sound like you". Jay often opens and closes his shows with Roy's songs as a tribute to Roy. My favorite is "Running Scared", of which there are three different Jay Black versions on TH-cam. Search for dunepaul9999 to find them.
He didn't start wearing glasses until the peak of his career In 1963, in 1964 he had his final 2 big hits of the 60s and his record sales then started declining, so he didn't wear glasses for the majority of his big hits. His earlier releases album sleeves contained no actual photos of him, and it was only reissues of earlier big hits that contained later photos of him wearing glasses that established him as a man with black hair who wore dark glasses, which is strange to have a complete image change 3 years after being established as a major pop star.
Actually, Roy wasn't new at all in 1960. He first came to prominence in the 1957 with the Sun Records release of 'Ooby Dooby'. He charted again on Monument in 1959 with 'Uptown' and 'Only The Lonely'.
They dont come close to Roy Orbison...Not a bit. These people are merely singers. not as classy and individualistic as Roy... He had only one sound..His own and noone else can hold the slightest candle to the greatest singer ever....
Hi friend, you are welcome... Well congratulations for you have all his recorded songs and thanks for comment with this good words that is very curious for me. Take care. Greetings, ((^.~)) ~Tinorbison~
Hi! Well, when you are adicted to see someone always looking the same and after something changes and that person looks different, it causes some excitement, and in case of Roy, he aways weared glasses, and now that he didn´t use just for one time, it makes suspanse....For me is very normal, but is always nice to make make that reference here, to catch the attention to people. Maybe to some people like us, doesn´t make any difference, but to another people it really does Always, ~TheTinorbison~
When touring in Europe (The Beatles were HIS opening act) he forgot his prescription glasses on the plane. All he had were his prescription sun glasses and was forced to were them, which became a trademark! Roy had poor vision though and was not comfortable performing "blind" without corrective lenses. Just FYI
Roy was/is awesome no matter what but I think I actually prefer him without glasses and his natural hair color like in this video. Too bad there isn't more footage out there without the glasses.
@Quatorzel4 It is great, isn´t? Everybody gets amazed hehe...Me too, when I saw this for the first time....He looks very nice I guess, but with glasses he looks like he is a trademark of himself :D So you are a fan of him, right? Thanks for share the nice coment with us...You´re welcome. Greetings from Portugal, ((^.~)) ~TheTinorbison~
John would play his harmonica, and sing little child.......Then came Roy Orbison out on the stage.....He looked so old, so out of place among all of us teenagers in london.....
@skipper8257 Yeah, everything you mentioned on your coment, it´s right...and he really died for an heart attack...So sad!!! Thanks very much for express your feelings with us. With people who feels the same as you.... Hope you keep in touch with me. Greetings from Portugal, ((^.~)) ~TheTinorbison~
@csnu5 Well, people in this time, dressed very classic and have no difference with an old dress person with a young dress, and it´s hard to distingue....Well, the record colour wasn´t the best too, and everything helps, cause I have some pictures in this tim from him and they have much better quality and they are coloured.... :D
@jasonerling Yeah he had an astigmatism problem, not blind hehe...for that he used all the time dark and very strong glasses. Hope keep in touch. Greetings, ((^.~)) ~TheTinorbison~
@harfuch1 That´s a good comparation hehe....Thanks for the nice coment...I really enjoyed that. Hope you keep in touch. Greetings from Portugal, ((^.~)) ~TheTinorbison~
Good lord this is good.
Love how he takes us all on a roller coaster ride with his voice, especially the ending.
Never has any voice rang with pure emotion like Roy Orbison: all at once mournful and joyous amazing!
What a cutie!! I think he's very handsome!! ... You can tell that he's so nervous!! This was his first appetence on such a big, nation wide show! ... He swallows, and licks his lips over and over. Roy Orbison was beautiful inside and out. What lovely, kind eyes he had.
😮 WOW ! One ☝️ of the most beautiful male🎤 singing voices ever : Roy Orbison ‘The Big ‘O’ 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽💫💫💫

C'est grâce à ce chanteur que je suis tombé amoureux de la musique des années 60
Great times they where, and yet still listening to this great singer.
Number one the week I was born. I love this song and listened to it on my mom's old 45s when I was little. How sweet and wasn't he adorable? :)
I’m 47… still no man touches Roy’s vocal for me! My parents said from when I was 2! I would go mad for Roy, when my dad would play his many records! It’s never changed changed for me! The most beautiful male vocal ever! ❤️
I am 41,I Hispanic and we have great singers, but no one gets close to Roy Orbison level he's voice is out of this world
@@thewolf81lobo86 absolutely Xx
@@Foxys1974 try listening to Pop Smoke
I would have never known that was Roy Orbison by appearance only.
You don't have ears for this music..he have quite some
All you have to do is listen and you know exactly who’s singing.
Love this song! I can so relate! Roy's voice is exquisite!
He looks handsome without his glasses
he looked so cute with his blond hair and no glasses on. awesome!
thanks Tina for sharing!!!
What a voice. So pure

Elvis said he was the greatest singer! He was spot on !

But he's miming!
I think that without his glasses your able to see no emotion in his face, or physically. But with glasses he does look or seem to be having emotion.
I saw lots of emotion here Divest_., he looks a bit nervous and even overwhelmed. Bashful too.
extremely talented individual
Muy Grande!!

A great song of Roy without glasses. I like to hear it with his Gretsch white falcon
@Tinorbison yeah, he discovered his sunglasses image in 1963 when he lost his regular glasses while beginning his tour with the beatles
noooooooo glassssssesssss... OMG!!!!!! awesome
Thanks for posting this fine film.
I may be too high, but Lyle Lovett has a similar "look" to Roy Orbison as a young man.
Very Rare to see Roy Orbison without glasses
Dustin Biebeier or whatever is his name there are a bunch like him. but like Mr. Orbison, never will be another one like him
They should've had him sing live instead of lip sync......fabulous Voice 😎🎶🎸

I honestly don't know whether I would have recognised who it was if I had been shown the picture without the caption.
I wonder are there are more rare videos of young roy??

what jaundice?
Suddenly I understand why Tom Breihan referred to him as a "polite Texan dweeb."
True
This is before he discovered his sunglasses image.
@Kailjiin will never see that again...
roy orbinson doesnt look like roy orbinson without his glasses on
Please don’t take offense to this, I’m only trying to help, it’s Orbison not orbinson
Whoa! What happened to your glasses, Orbdawg?
he should plug in his guitar
