  • The Hero's Journey 17 Steps: This week's video explains the 17 stages in Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey. The work explores where myths provide a psychological and spiritual blueprint for life, the connection between all hero's journey's and if there is one inside of us all.

    She is a very beautiful woman, the 17 steps made me confused with the 12 steps seen on most websites... liked her version very much.

    Thanks for watching. I'm currently on the "Road of Trials" in my stage in the Hero's Journey. I would love to hear which stage you are on in the comments below. 💫

      It seems that once we go through the stages of the journey, the journey begins all over again once we have accomplished our goal. A different sequence of stages in life begin again, specially if we fall into a routine.
      I went literally ritually through my first "heroe's journey" when I was 24 and I decided to travel to Europe from the states, when I had never slept outside of my home prior to that. Twelve years later I relived the same experience when I did the pilgrimage of Santiago de Compostela. I was not aware of the heroe's journey until a few years after when I came across Campbell's book and I felt like a lightbulb went on in my mind. I could see every stage of Campbell's myth theory in each of my travel adventures. But the complication happens when we return with the elixir. It seems that a "new" reincarnation occurs as if a new soul enters our being without having to go through physical death. That new soul begins his own journey all over again.
      experiences. This concept of a new incarnation is not discuss in the Hero with a thousands faces, but it is discussed in the esoteric teachings of Hassidic Judaism, the Kabbalah, which seems to be the one subject that Jung had regretted at the end of his life for not having had more time to explore it, as he wrote in 1962.

    Congratulations! This video was well synthesized and the best explanation I've ever seen concerning the Hero's journey. I am studying the Monomyth and preparing a presentation to a public speech and your video gave me the right concept of how I can show it.

    I struggle with the ending part of this - I’ve read the book and it all makes sense to me, until the return. Then it seems complicated and it seems to be unnecessary to some, so even skipped over by some.
    Thank you for going through them all. To me, it’d be interesting to see an even deeper look, if you were interested. Especially the return, because this is touched on less.

    • @truesovereignself
      @truesovereignself  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What you say makes a lot of sense. Would the return perhaps be seen as a levelling up to a deeper inner-standing?

    • @nyarlathotep13
      @nyarlathotep13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TRUE SOVEREIGN SELF I don’t mean it’s for me personally, if that’s what you are asking.
      I’m actually studying this to give some song structure to my next album (music). Unrelated topics in the songs, but put together with this story telling structure that Campbell put together from all around the world. It’s just something I’m using to fuel creativity.

    • @nyarlathotep13
      @nyarlathotep13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TRUE SOVEREIGN SELF though I do think I see what you mean, where you can generalize the return section as just simplified as a more personal understanding.

    • @truesovereignself

      @@nyarlathotep13 Oh wow that's awesome, so would finishing the album be the return?

    • @truesovereignself
      @truesovereignself  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@nyarlathotep13 That's my inner standing of his work. This is my favourite quote from him which makes a lot of sense “The psychotic drowns in the same waters in which the mystic swims with delight.”- Joseph Campbell

      I'm sorry to ready about your difficulties. Change will only come from within. You need to work with the wounds and heal them. Nurture your inner child and start to innerstand the protector parts which may be around. This can be worked on and through in sessions but may take time and commitment.
