I took some lads too Blackpool in the 90s in a minibus, rather than drive home then return in the early hours too pick them up I decided too stay, I went for a wander down the prom and noticed advertisements on the trams for Freddie Starr on the North pier. I didn't realise after walking for 2 hours towards a pier that it was the south pier. I walked back too the North pier then witnessed one of the funniest comedy acts of our generation, and what a great singer.. Rest in peace Freddie..
I used to know a chauffeur who once picked him up and they got caught in a traffic jam. Freddie jumped out the car on an island and was directing traffic as if it was part of his comedy act! True story. Very funny man. RIP.
So sad how he ended. Unwell, penniless and no where to live. Died in a sleepy hotel room in Spain. Never got over being accused of sexual predeter like Jimmy Savile. Last four letters of his name says it all. Vile. He made us laugh. Heartaches there were a few and he did it his way. RIP.
He didn't die in a hotel room. He was found dead on the floor at his home in Mijas, Costa del So on the 9th of May 2019. He died from a heart attack.His carer Nelly Georgieva found him. He died penniless.
See him live at lewisham town hall many moons ago. He came out in his usual skin tight trousers,showing of a large packet. Was 10 mins into his act then stopped,put hand down trousers ,pulled out a large banana and said,oh thats better! Think the women were all disappointed
