Happens to everyone though. Rewatching one of your apm heavy own games and looking at your tech tree to see which fundamental techs you missed out on is an eye opener. Especially for these guys it's in a high level Diplo regicide where there's no safe place and potential allied snipes.
I've never watched competitive videogames before, and I haven't played AOE since the demo that was installed by default on the library computers in high school back around 1998. And yet youtube has recommended me this and I am thoroughly glad it did.
Ganji was MVP. His sling at the beginning, followed by his onager snipe, followed by supporting his team with resources (though he took Obediah's word), his strong fight against yellow, and finally his last vain attempt to hold against someone with *at least* 10k more of each resource. Such a strong showing. Side note: I've been subbed for a couple of weeks now and I'm just going back through and watching these regicide games. I love this kind of content. I really enjoy the diplomacy plays/ruses. Cheers :D

Late comment but the key thing here for Obadiah I think was that he could plausibly claim to need resources and be on the edge of death-because he genuinely was almost knocked out over and over-but he chose to hoard resources *anyway* even though he was almost getting knocked out and instead beg for aid-but he also wasn't so ineffectual (like orange by the end) that he didn't hold up his end of the trio and cause the northern team to loose. Pretty delicate balance.

1) The storm is basically a HP degen field that extends upto certain fixed distances into the map (from the edges) according to programmed rules (it kicks in at the 2hr mark in this game, for instance). Some of T90's map creators came up with it awhile ago and he's used it for various maps ever since. Look for his vids on 'AoE2 Battle Royale Mode' to see a more aggressive usage of it when he first discovered the mechanic. 2) Those objects are apparently part of the storm mechanic - they allow it to affect the islands even though the regular storm only moves in slightly from the edge of the map. You'll have to ask T90 how they work, but there it is. 3) CaptureAge is a spectating client for the game, developed by some folks from the community, that has a lot of advanced features which allow casters to instantly check a whole bunch of info and data in real time. You can read all about it, and contribute to it if you're so inclined, here - captureage.com/

Just me or did this match mirror WW2 a bit? Red/orange/gray were the axis, strong start but their economy got slowly fucked up as they tried and tried to conquer Obadiah (as Russia).

This map always reminds me of the treasure map that Teddy draws in the bobs burgers episode, “the belchies”, where they search the abandoned taffy factory for treasure. Now I’ve got the taffy butt song stuck in my head

When you give another player resources. So if you are getting pushed and your economy is hurting, another player 'slings' you resources so you can create units to fight.

Seems like a trick here is to keep some resources in your pocket and act a bit helpless when attacked. I’ve seen two decisive wins happen that way.
The pilgrim map is some of my favorite games. Such chaos, and yet you get to see everything that makes aoe such a great game
Part of me is a bit disappointed that they all went after Purple rather than use him in some way to break the 3v3 deadlock.

Means sending resources to an ally (like wood, food, gold), so that they can keep producing whatever unit they wants.
