Wonderful thank you, brings back happy memories, in the year 2000 I rode my motorcycle from southern Ireland to England with three aims, to visit Edward Elgar in Worcester, Holmfirth for Last of the summer wine and to see Julian Bream my guitar idol in Consett, all of which I managed to do. I stood in your very footsteps by Compo s resting place. Of course Cleggy wasn't there then. May they rest in peace. Many thanks. Le gra mor. Gérard lacey in Ireland.
Hi Gerard and thank you so much for the lovely comment ! your motorcycle journey must have been great fun and to do what you set out to do is great - the area round the last of the summer wine country is really nice and was my home for over 50 years until I moved away ! I had one of my best ever holidays in Southern Ireland in Culdaff County Donegal such a beautiful area !! thank you again - Regards Graham
Just calming and beautiful - I do wonder though, why were Bill and Peter's hats not put in clear bags - left as they are they will rot away in no time at all. At least the wellies will withstand the weather !
Hi Jean and thank you for your comment ! it is a very serene area indeed ! you have a a very good point about the hats I have to agree ! The Wellies will be there forever !! regards Graham
Just bumped into this, having lived in Holmfirth, (from where you climb to Upperthong ), since I was five, I have to admit I found the tour of the graveyard very interesting , not been to that church since a young teenager, that was a funeral. So thank-you, good job.

03:05 Multiple head stones, same person. I think there was a family dispute which resulted in them putting their own head stones on Bills grave. But he is rests side by side with his best friend and fellow actor, Peter
Thank you for walking us through the cemetery Sir. It is indeed well kept. I don't think the two actors will ever be forgotten. Is their Resting place just coincidence?
Hi Priscilla , thank you for the comment , I believe that both actors loved the area so much that they wanted to be a part of it forever -The pair became close friends over the 26 years they worked together on the show before Bill, who played Compo, passed away in 1999 aged 85. Bill had chosen St John's Church graveyard in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, as the place he wanted to be buried while filming the sitcom 20 years earlier. After Bill died, Peter - who played mild-mannered Clegg "He pointed down the hill and said, 'That's where I want to be buried'." regards Graham
Hi Gillian and thank you for the comment ! the graveyard is really well looked after and it is nice to see as so many these days are in a state of disrepair - Regards Graham
