    US retired expat moved to Kampuchea two years ago and learning Khmer has been difficult and slow. Tried many ways. Dara, I'm glad I just found your videos. Slow enough to practice every word all day. It's finally sinking in.

    Great lessons but often the english letters are incorrect. Hoop sounds like “boot” when you want to write “hope”. Hop rhymes with cop. Hoop rhymes with scoop.

    • @DaraYin

      Quat is for people and Wear or wiah is for animal. Thanks

    • @AlexandreAuCambodge
      @AlexandreAuCambodge 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      For animals and things (like "it" in English). And young children. And people you're mad at. And westerners, sometimes.

    I am confusing as some of the words pronounced differently from different persons teaching Khmer.
    Also Moak Wigh should be pronounced as "wigh" or "wing"?

    • @DaraYin
      @DaraYin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes this is wigh not wing.

      Lots of dialects in Cambodia. The official dialect is not the most spoken. Most spoken is the Phnom Penh dialect. And you'll never understand Siam reap dialect

    If you don't mind me asking to aide in my understanding, if the k is silent why put it in there at all. It just adds to confusion.

    • @DaraYin
      @DaraYin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Samual, great question and comment actually ending is important in this language. but don't pronounce it. you just swallow it.

    • @samualcrocket1405
      @samualcrocket1405 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You "swallow it" meaning take the emphasis off of it, I think.

    • @DaraYin
      @DaraYin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that is the right term emphasis of the sound. Thanks

    • @TrueGritProductions
      @TrueGritProductions 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As if English doesn't have all kinds of confusing words and ridiculous grammar... let the Cambodians have their silent k's, actually they sound like quiet g's when you have a stop final consonant
