I used to work at a Target within the same design. Fun fact, the cart escalators are actually run slightly slower than the human escalators, so you always arrive just before your cart does.
I have NEVER seen a cart escalator before, and I've never been in a two-story Target! But then, I live in the Midwest where we don't have these kind of stores. Pretty cool!
Pretty sure there are a few multi levels in Miami! Back when I stayed at solar Surfside, we saw a multi level Publix where they had conveyor belts for people to use. There is also a multi level target there. Unfortunately, after the collapse of solara's neighbor building, my family won't stay there ever again.
The flagship Target at Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis, MN has a setup just this. I've been there quite a few times now and the cart escalator will never cease to amuse and amaze me.
In the UK, our shopping trolleys have special wheels that lock into grooves on a modified escalator that has no stairs. Basically just an inclined travellator. It's basically the shopping trolley escalator and a normal escalator combined.
@@specialticket1122 omg you're kidding which walmart? its too late now anyways i moved across the globe three months ago so i cant even visit it if i wanted to😭

There’s a similar situation at the Kmart store in West Orange, NJ. It opened as an EJ Korvette’s department store in the 70s, became a Caldor in the 80s, and finally reopened as a Big Kmart after Caldor’s bankruptcy in the late 90s. I’m not sure if the cart escalators are original to Korvette’s, but they’re a really cool feature of a rather unique Kmart!
I have a childish love for cartalators. I used to shop at the Whole Foods on Park Lana in Dallas in part because they had one. There’s a Walmart in Shenzhen that has an interesting twist. The have a moving ramp way. It has the magic on it to lock the cart wheels, so the carts mostly stay in place til the top.
Ok but what does it do when the receiver doesn’t take his cart and other carts are coming from behind? Does it keep pushing or does it come to a stop until the receiver fully pulls it out?
In Thailand it like the slope elevator that can pick the cart and also human can go with the cart... ...its has some kind of lock to the cart wheels...
Those are Pflow Industries "Cartveyor" shopping cart conveyors. They are exceedingly simple in design mechanically, simply having a small AC motor and toothed belts to transport each cart.
ive seen a similar thing in china except its just a slanted conveyer belt for people and carts instead of a escalator and the carts wheels have grooves that grip into the escalator
That’s so cool. The first time I saw a cart escalator was in Taiwan. I was studying Chinese there. My classmates took me to a huge shopping center with multiple levels. I was amazed about the fact that if you got stuff in your cart one one level you could just take it to the next one and keep shopping. I probably was staring with googly eyes, which was probably funny to my classmates. The shopping mall and grocery stores in my town are just one floor. Whenever I go to bigger cities to shop I think, “ohh yeah, they actually need escalators!”
They are not Schindler cart conveyors. They are Vermaport cart conveyors, made by Vermaport Ltd in the UK. Very cool way to take your cart between floors without having to wait for elevators!
In France is not like that, the carts escalators are just a "rolling" carpet and peoples can bring their carts in the escalator with an ingenious system: the wells of the cart are "stuck" in the carpet so peoples can do other things without holding their cart and the cart doesn't fall! (Sorry about my bad English: I'm French)
The target in University Heights Ohio where I worked has one of these and pretty much on a daily basis some idiot push the cart on the regular escalator causing it to fall down and create a big crash.
I live near this target, and I have waited for centuries for someone to tell the world about this absolute marvel of engineering

Shopping cart escalators are everywhere in NYC!
We'll, things are more newfangled here.

There’s a bed bath and beyond in Paramus, New Jersey that has a cart escalator but it’s never operational.
Cart escalator!! That's amazing! I want this in my country Japan :(

Yuko's Japanese lesson I thought Japan had everything! 🇯🇵
In England they're called trolleys.
So it's a trollscalator
Yep :)
There's this thing called a travelator here in the UK which is like an escalator but you push your trolley on it and just go up with your trolley.
Wait - Americans don’t have them? I’m Irish btw we have them as well
They also have that at the Bridgeport target too.
In the UK, our shopping trolleys have special wheels that lock into grooves on a modified escalator that has no stairs. Basically just an inclined travellator.

The IKEA in West Covina CA has this too
WHAT A GENIUS SHOPPING MALL THAT I EVER SEE!!

The Walmart in Towson, MD has a setup like this. The Towson Walmart used to be the Towson Montgomery Wards.
they have that at the target in westfield mall in escondido ca

Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
I must admit that a shopping cart escalator is completely new to me. Never seen this before in Germany or anywhere else.

I mean, shops I've been to had travolators that you and the kart can ride at the same time.
But this is still interesting.
Yeah this is such a weird and over engineered concept - there are literally “elevators” nearby anyway that you could use
I have been to a two story target before in San Diego and it was cool. I have never been to a two story target. That was my first time seeing it.
They are awesome
We use to have flat escalators so we can go with the shopping kart
If it’s flat, how does it escalate
@@TheSaltyOG you keep sliding down that's how

I was worried he was going to use escalator to climb up after the shopping cart but what a relief, he used elevator
