Indiana!! Z5...started collecting my seeds (in between the rain), clone, Celsius, Echinacea, hibiscus...now start the *great takedown of 2019* and to start repotting/debugging what needs to be brought inside. Happy Autumn and thanks for giving me my 2nd wind!!!!

Ahhhhh... sounds like such an amazing harvest! I've never tried harvesting hibiscus seeds. Is that easy to do? Thank you for checking in from Indiana 🌍👋

@kellylehman Happy Friday!! Yes it easy! I have various varieties of perennial hibiscus. The *pod heads* break open (after a 2nd bloom has fallen off) and the seeds are inside. Either I collect the seeds to dry (in an old coffee can) OR...I take the pods/seeds and plant. They will sprout next spring--It will about 2 years to get growth enough for blooming.

I live in PA and we are re-doing our front yard, I love all the beautiful flower and plants the previous owner had planted, but they did it in a very hodgepodgey way that didn't work well for us, or look very nice. I have been harvesting the bulbs and seeds of most of the plants and saving them to re-plant in better places. I cut our celosia last year and stuck it in a bag and hung it in our garage all winter and spring and just remembered they were there! It really worked, the seeds feel to the bottom of the bag and now I have some to plant when I need them. Thanks for the tip...neighbor.

Hi! I’m from the Philippines and I got a celosia plant as a gift the other day. Thank you for such an informative video! I already harvested a few seeds but I do have a question tho, can these plants be propagated through cuttings?

    • @KellyLehman

Yep , you can easily take a cutting and place them directly in soil and leave them to root in their own . Should take about 3-4 weeks . Good luck with your new flowers 🌸🤗

Thanks so much. From Dahlonega, GA. Coming from WI/MN to GA has been a learning curve. I have some of the dried out flowers gifted to me by a neighbor and I’m just now planting them. Some in little starter cardboard inside with a light. Some in the soil (red clay) with organic starting soil and compost. Wish me luck.

I went out and just took a branch and took the tiny seeds out. So I came in and looked up saving celosia seeds. Your is very helpful. Thanks for sharing.

Just hoping that with care I can keep this beautiful plant and hopefully get seeds and increase numbers.

I'm in Norfolk, VA. This video popped up in my feed because I'm a first year gardener and have been watching a ton of gardening videos. I just subscribed. Celosia plants are my absolute favorite! I call 'em Critters because they remind me of Dr. Seuss creatures...haha! I've harvested hundreds of seeds already! I have them in a paper envelope in a dresser drawer. Eventhough it's October now, I have Celosia sprouts outside of my greenhouse- I guess some of the seeds ended up out there while I was harvesting them. That worries me because winter is coming and I don't want them to die! My zone is 8a, so we've had some milder winters, but the Farmer's Almanac is predicting a colder winter for us this year. I did dig up some of the seedlings and put them into pots. I guess I'll try overwintering them in the greenhouse. We'll see what happens! Thanks for this video! I look forward to watching more!

Karina, I am from hamilton, Ontario. First time growing Celosia. Oh wow ! thats all i cal say. some of the lost breathaking colors have come up. all of them are over 2 feet, the flowers theselves big and gorgeous. I am going to see how well the harvest goes. Like you I emptied a whole pack of the seeds I had bought. Lo and behold I see most of them came up. i was not sure what I had planted so took a chance they turned out to be celosia. when i harvets the seeds I will collect some for you as i have lots of plants. I will see how I can it over to you. You did not do anything wrong. next time put the seeds on a wet tissue and kept it in the fridge and put them put end of june I think. within a few qeeks they grew but now it is flowers galore. PM me if you want me to collect some seeds for you. I think i have like 20+++ plants growing in pots and in my forntyd. I am Shusha Meister on Facebook . PM me . thks. Have a lovely day

As I said, I have been growing them indoors for over 2 months now and they are just one thin tiny stem, 3/4 to 1" tall. I feel like they got that tall (not tall at all, actually), then just stopped growing. But if you think they will take off once I plant them outside I will go ahead and do so???

I am having such a hard time ordering cells is seeds. I do not want the type that are a once and done, I like the type that you can continue to harvest from. I know not to get the Bombay series. I love the ones that look like fans or brains. I am also looking for a great green one because that is my mother's favorite color. Do you have any recommendations on the best varieties? The ones I have growing so far are not doing so well. Tips on growing them would be a fantastic video or did you already make one and I missed it.

Hi Kelly. Thanks for the tips. I have a question. My Celosia flowers have turned brown and I wanted to harvest the seeds however, I am not able to see any seeds just yet. If I cut the flowers off from the stem will I eventually see the seeds or I have to let them be attached to the stem and only when I can spot the seeds then take off the flowers from the rest of the plant?

    • @KellyLehman
      @KellyLehman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Chaahat👋 Ill bet the. seeds are already there since the flower has turned brown already. Take a paper bag or ziplock baggy out to your garden . Give the brown flower a good shake over the bag. Ill bet loads of tiny black seeds come out . 🌸😊

    • @KellyLehman

Hi Lorraine , I find things grow best when they are planted in the ground with proper sun and water . Sometimes the roots outgrow the pot and root rot can sometimes be an issue if they are cramped and soggy . Happy gardening 🌸

I’m in Houston, Texas and it’s still above 70 in mid-October…maybe too early here? Does it vary by the type of Celosia? My Kelos Atomic Violet Celosia is producing an abundance of seeds now. 👍😁 But not the Intenz Classic. TIA!!!

Hi Laurie, oh i just loveee when they do all the work and reseed themselves. I have a lot of sunflowers that do the same . As far as the seeds i harvest in fall, i keep them in a cool dark place for the winter and then replant in spring . 🌸😊
