Amex Gold card is a credit card in Canada. I also have one.

Amex gold is good, but I think the Scotiabank gold card is a really good competitor to it. The points multipliers are better. Thoughts?

The Scotiabank Gold American Express Card does have better points multipliers for sure. But the points are Scene Points and not Amex Membership Rewards. Scene points are great for everyday rewards and I love how easy they are to use. But it is harder to use Scene points to travel Business Class or First Class. So just depends on what your goals are.

Since I don't own an Amex I guess that's why I am not aware of this. So the value of Amex points is more than scene points?

I prefer amex points over scene points. Scene is great for everyday travel but amex will give you more value. For example you can transfer 75,000 points from amex to aeroplan and get a business class flight to Asia. Vs with scene you'd need a lot more points.

I have a secondary debit card, small retirement savings with CIBC. Would it make sense to get the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite over the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite? I feel like there’s not much difference between the two. I’m planning to pair one of these to my AMEX Cobalt.

Both are pretty much identical. Biggest difference right now is the welcome bonus. CIBC requires $15K spend in the first year but waives the annual fee. TD is $10K in the first year but you pay the annual fee.

Yeah currently for CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite:
      - You get 20,000 Aeroplan points when you spend $6,000 or more during the first 4 monthly statements periods.
      - 20,000 Aeroplan points as an additional anniversary bonus when you have at least $15,000 in net purchases posted on your account during the first 12 monthly statement periods.
(I think CIBC is attainable since I will have an upcoming wedding expenses I can put on the card, so $6000 to $10000 (solely for the wedding) spend in the first 4 months is doable for me)
Whereas TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite offers:
      - Earn 20,000 Aeroplan points when you spend $6,000 within 180 days of Account opening.
      - Plus, earn a one-time anniversary bonus of 20,000 Aeroplan points when you spend $10,000 within 12 months of Account opening.

amex gold is not a charge card in canada

You’re correct on that. They changed it from a charge card to a credit card. I’ve had mine for a while so still have the old perks.
