Goldlewis and asuka having a debate, proving that things like "having HP" and 'neutral' are just a state of mind

I follow Gobou in the game and watched these matches, and I am not necessarily surprised that this was a 3-0 for Noedda. Gobou stated that since season 3, Goldlewis has been one of Asuka's harder match-ups. He summed it up as a *"watch the spells, then WWA"* match-up - because active at frame 9, WWA will beat any spell Asuka has on reaction; and then the round/game is most likely over -- just like in many rounds in this set; because Asuka has little to no answers against Goldlewis' pressure, and now having the ability to use the security gauge to essentially get RC BTs, this match-up became even harder for Asuka. Gobou actually switched to Goldlewis right after this set, and won 3-0 -- because at this level, that's how important character match-ups truly are. He also faced Summit's Chipp during his most recent stream, and stressed how weak Asuka is against Chipp in this version - and the first two games looked painful to watch...
Equally important ( *Long Post Warning* ): There has been a lot of discussion regarding Asuka's character strength after the major balance patch - with many individuals feeling that Asuka is weaker overall. However, Gobou declared that Asuka is stronger than in season 3 in the current patch, but most recently stated that Asuka is *_theoretically_* stronger than in season 3; and while I don't like the slight change of tune, I'm glad that he still considers the character strong - because we get to see more of his amazing Asuka gameplay.
For the sake of brevity, I will post some excerpts of how he felt about Asuka that demonstrates how he came to that conclusion:
When he used Asuka in training mode, he declared that you should wait to use your Bit Shift Metrons; the Deceleration Staff in Case 1 is still a cursed spell - that typically leads to the Asuka player losing if utilized; you can also turn over Harmonics Boost (Full Order) 18 times - which is enough to increase the level of RMS Boost to level 5 if you are discarding at least 3-4 spells each time; he said that the buff to Asuka's Mana Recovery spell in Case 2 is, as Asuka says, "足りない" (not enough); RMS Boost at level 1-2 is very weak, and RMS Boost at level 5 has stingy plus frames; he ended the training by saying ( _Translations by me_ ):
*Gobou:* *"Mana Recovery (Continous) has gotten stronger, and if you use it with Full Order, it will be amazing, but Mana consumption has gone up overall, and RMS has become very weak"*
ー *"It's not like there were any new elements added to a character that was already bad in the first place"*
( _Gobou actually did use the word bad when referring to Asuka in season 3 here_ )
ー *"I doubt if it will be used in tournaments"*
Furthermore, when he used Asuka in tower, his first impression was that Submicron is weak; Bit Shift might be strong - despite the 5-hit version being deleted from all Test Cases; Asuka _might_ be strong in this version-- which he later declared that if you can use Asuka effectively, he's stronger than in season 3; but he also kept stressing how difficult Harmonics Boost is to use now - where you spend all that Mana just to get a good set of spells, and then the next time it's utilized, it's "trash" - which makes it much more risky and expensive to use compared to before.
So, a little clarity as to why Asuka is theoretically stronger now than in season 3: Meta Asuka (Case 3) is supposedly stronger than in season 3, primarily because of the fact that the Mana Regeneration spell was actually buffed -- due to the rapid Mana Recovery - paired with Harmonics Boost (Full Order) and the Reduce Mana and Acceleration Staff spells from Case 1, you get explosive, suffocating pressure - the spell only lasts barely less than 5 seconds; and while your opponent is stuck in blockstun, this is when you switch to Case 3 and store multiple Bit Metrons until they count up to level 5 (it only takes 7 seconds) and continue pressure; also, the ability to instantly change from Case 3 > Case 1 also aides in your ability to convert off of combos where it did not exist previously -- with taking all of this into consideration, your 'Solitaire' game is even stronger than before -- or at least that's how Gobou sees it. Again, he didn't believe that Asuka was a strong character in season 3, but he does in season 4.
Moreover, viewers have been asking him about Asuka's character strength after this patch in his chat, and his most recent response was that Asuka is "difficult" - I am a bit concerned over the fact that he keeps stressing how hard Asuka is now - when he was already the hardest character in the game since his debut. What was once a clear and consistent game plan (get into Case 3 > Harmonics Boost > Mana Regeneration & Auto Import spells + spells for mixup/pressure), is now ambiguous and requires you to scramble between Case 1 and 3 spells to form a synergy that keeps your opponent guessing - and out of your personal space. The silver lining, if you will, is that Gobou said, *"If you don't give up on the him, he's stronger than in the previous version."* The only issue, is that you now have to completely change the way you play Case 3 - almost as if you are learning a brand new character...
As to be expected from the Asuka Innovator - count on Gobou to push and dissect this character to make him work at high level play. It honestly looks as if he's gotten better with Asuka than he was in season 3; he almost 3-0'd Daru_I-No in his most recent broadcast, and this match-up went from something like a 7:3 (when WA was a HKD) > 6:5 (towards the end of season 3) > 8:2 disadvantage for Asuka. No offense fellow I-No soldiers, but there is almost no excuse to lose against Asuka players in this version (skill difference and match-up knowledge aside) - I-No appears very strong in this version, and she depletes like 50% of the Mana gauge off of one meterless combo, along with factors like 6HCL being plus on block where Asuka's 2P does not even reach/gets hit if attempting to challenge it - and due to the increase in damage for many characters, an 80% combo on Mana Shield-broken Asuka from I-No is not uncommon.
Another thing I would like to note is that Gobou found out that Submicron no longer gives you any return, and is almost essentially useless. Although it is +6 on block, he stated that you cannot use any techniques - this is due to the extra recovery frames they added to it - so you will see Asuka crouch for a second - because the player is trying to input something; because I use Case 2 - which excels in close-range combat, I found this out on day 1 - and warned other Asuka users about it. I'm a bit worried when he finds out that when you are 1/2 - 1/3 screen distance away from your opponent, and if their back is not to the corner, you get no wall break...
In conclusion, I would be lying if I said that I was not a bit disappointed with the adjustments made to Asuka; but what I find mildly frustrating is the fact that when ASW weakens Asuka, they end up dragging the other two Test Cases that were already weak to begin with down with Case 3 - and I would not be surprised if the popularity of this character plummets - because nobody wants to play the hardest character in the game, that also has to give around 5X the effort of the easy top tier characters, without being a top tier character himself since the character was nerfed 6 months after his release... however, I would just like to state that even if Asuka were to ever be nerfed to bottom tier, that would still not stop talented Asuka users from overwhelming their opponents as if he was never weakened. That being said, if you don't learn Asuka proper counterplay, this character will always be a problem you...
    (Sorry about airing my grievances)
My apologies for the long post; just know that to those who take the time to read my post(s), I sincerely thank you...

The contrast between the first two rounds kills me. Asuka doing a dozen calculated inputs in four seconds to keep Goldlewis in perpetual blockstun and cleanly taking the round with a YRC bait, and then Goldlewis just tackles him and he crumples instantly.

    • @waitingforzato-1i-noinguil301
      @waitingforzato-1i-noinguil301 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

This is unfortunately a common occurrence with Asuka's bad match-ups - it's just that Goldlewis being a 'Power Character' really puts on display how inconsistent Asuka as a character is now. Asuka crumbles under pressure from characters like I-No, Faust, Sin, Chipp, Johnny, and Slayer just as easily - just to name a few. ASW's decision to increase the defense modifiers for most characters, and balancing those changes by increasing the damage to many attacks in this game was a smart move on their part; but now Asuka with no Mana Shield takes an unreasonable amount of damage from any character (except Bridget); pair that with some spells costing more - and the Mana Regeneration spell stopping when you either block a move or get hit - and you've just set the stage for Asuka users to either play every game perfectly, or all but guarantee lose the game from one mistake. This is probably going to draw competitors away from an already RNG-based and volatile character in the first place...

As you can see it is a lot harder to keep exodia going and having micro manage your Mana is an even hard chore with TC3 now.

Goldlewis is like a really sharp knife but with a sharp handle you can't push it too hard, Goldlewis entire kit is counterable by double jumping. The only thing that makes him busted is that he will bully in the corner just like you'll bully him in the corner he has no defense whatsoever his entire kit is based around finishing the round so fast that your opponent doesn't burst or YRC. He have the slowest run speed with the slowest normals its your fault if you make him get in your face.
