The overwhelming vast majority of people have no encounters with the police and innocent people tend to have positive experiences with police if they do encounter them. If you break the law and act like a turkey when it's time to face the consequences then yes, it is common sense that they will use reasonable force to bring you to face justice. You can't just walk away from them, everybody knows that. You did the wrong thing and now you must have your day in court. I know law enforcement as I worked in emergency services, they are normal people, but heroes are normal people. They aren't superhuman, which only makes what they do even more incredible. I have a story about a run in I had with a bikie fool that solidified this fact for me. I was waiting in line for a toilet at a public venue. Peeked around the door to see if the only cubicle was free as there was a line and I was next and wanted to let people go past me who needed a urinal. A guy in bandidos leathers who was peeing in a urinal on the other side of the bathroom happened to look over his shoulder and see me peeking. He came out and got in my face, he accused me of trying to "look at his penis" (impossible to do from where I was in the first place). He was just drunk and trying to act tough and was manufacturing any reason he could to start talking a tough game at someone. I chuckled and said "Whatever mate just keep walkin', get outta here.". That made him extremely mad, he started yelling "I'LL TALK TO PEOPLE MATE, YOU'RE DONE" he poked at me and I swatted his hand away and said "Settle down, hey?". Yeah, you'll tell your mates huh? Because you wanna fight somebody, but only if you get to fight them 5 against 1? Bad enough to be a violent drunken dickhead, worse to be a violent drunken dickhead who talks tough but can't even throw a punch when he's on his own. I was in my early 20s at the time, this dude was at least 40 I reckon. They're absolute dickheads, the lot of them, their minds are stuck in high school or something.
