Great advice. I tend not to take my bike out unless I actually have to so often I may go a few weeks without riding. Even this means I feel slightly rusty, going in wrong lanes etc. Been riding for over 23 years and driving cars over 16 but after a break it definitely pays to take it easy. As I get older its more apparent that I'm not invincible and often think I'll just walk.🤭😎👍
I've owned and ridden bikes since I passed my test in 1964, but when I got to 75 a few years ago I became a fair weather biker. Not a bike but a 350 Maxi Scooter now but all the good advice still applies so I've been talking to myself for the first few rides this year. Nothing to do with age 😊 I just find it helps and proves to me that I did see that hazard or read what that car driver was going to do, and it brushes the winter Cobwebs away. 👍
Annual warner riding season reminder once again.. I ride all year albeit a bit less In Winter than previously....I don't like puddle/pothole roulette or grit/salt ! In warmer weather some of us pick up the pace a little.....wise to be mindful we may need to recalibrate & refrssh a bit before diving in. Always good to hear your repeated thoughts similar to mine re some lower limits 😉 Hope all well ...Thanks 👍 🏍
Some years I kept my bike on the road year round. I found I didn't ride much in winter. So this year I save myself 3 month of insurance. Getting ready. Re started insurance early April and a service on my 1200 boxer. A little bit of time in a local parking lot just for fun. Now back to my usual routine. A short ride for coffee on nice days. Looks like it was a nice day for a ride.🙂
Great message and hopefully will get some people on refresher training. It’s a shame not all motorists are required to attend refresher training. It would be more beneficial than implementing 20mph zones and dropping speed limits everywhere.
I love my bike, I love riding. I also love your videos. Very educational and informative. I would very much like to do some advanced training and see where my skill level is. Could I ask, where are you Based? As I would be interested in having you as my trainer . I'm in Hertfordshire County.
Hi Andy. Many thanks for your comments. I am in East Kent so a bit of a distance from you unfortunately. But if you would like a day out please drop me an email to discuss further. motorcyclepwr@gmail.com all the best
Random off topic question Phil - do you have an opinion on the safety of backpacks being worn while riding? I have heard it is unsafe a number of times but can't work out why beyond potentially altering balance of the rider?
@davidyates1299 Hi David thank you for your question. Whilst I am no scientist on this matter, I think the reason it is considered unsafe is if you were to come off your bike. I guess that it would depend how the incident played out, there being many variables, but the weight, size and shape of the rucksack and/or any items contained could lead to injury. If you had a box or set of tools for example and you landed on them, they could concentrate the force to one particular part of the body, therefore resulting in a serious injury. You could argue that some items could reduce the impact. The other issue could be that a large rucksack could result in the backwards travel of the neck being out of skeletal range as you hit the road so again could cause injury. Some more research could prove interesting. I hope this helps and would welcome any other thoughts. All the best
@@MotorcyclePWR thank you for the insightful and well thought out reply Phil. I think I am looking for any reason to upgrade my current CBR650F to something more substantial with luggage... safety first of course ;)
Hi John, sadly sold in 2021 to make way for the newer RT. A great bike, but the BMW seems to suit my work purposes and me slightly better. All the best
The first sunny weekend of the year for bikes I stay at home. It's the time for the first ride of the year nonsense from the folks with rusty riding skills and their over-enthusiasm. I ride all year, always have done.
I always laugh when people mention biking season? as if bikes themselfs care what season it is. Summer only bikers will always have lower safety skill and lower overall awareness ironically than all season bikers its just a fact. Because they only go out once a year instead of everyday. As dangerous as biking is you may as well train as much as possible under all conditions to be able to handle whatever the road conditions or seasons bring to enjoy it as long as possible.
Completely agree. I often say to the learner students they are lucky if it rains on their course as it’s good experience. I couldn’t do 6 months without a bike ride!
This is exactly why I ride. Out in the countryside on a lovely sunny day. Can't beat it.

Good advice based on personal experience can't fault it.

Worth checking the bike out also, brakes and tyres especially.
I ride all year round for pleasure, even if it's raining or cold. Ride safe guys.

Hi Phil, where’s the Kawasaki these days? It does make a lovely sound.
