The fact that ksp 1 can run with this craft where as ksp 2 flops with a normal rocket. Overall I can see many great missions being achieved with this craft, it will be interesting to see where this concept takes you.
This design and the concept of what its job could be is fun as heck, hope the Kraken is nice to ya and lets the dream come true! (thanks for the shoutout too, totally unexpected ♥)
Nice concept. Hopefully we will see it developed into an actual usable craft. For All Kerbal Kind is not limited to N9. It is an alternate history collaboration series between N9, Beardy Penguin and Carnasa . N9 plays the US while Beardy plays the Soviet Union and Carnasa plays ESA.
My suggestion for helping it work, nacelles. Front nacelles could help your thrust problem, and if you have the patience to make it work, use robotic parts to rotate the nacelles. You’ll have less lifting engines being dead weights during ascent and the extra power to push through the atmosphere, at the cost of dealing with robotics
I like the aesthetic of a sleek vehicle that becomes strapped with ugly fuel canisters in order to salvage the design. it makes it seem more realistic and relatable to actual vehicles created IRL. Weigh this thing down with tons and tons of huge fuel containers that turn it into an absolute behemoth please.
This ship is already unreal, your construction skills are unmatched VAOS, thankyou for sharing this amazing design, I can't wait to see where you go with this!
Y'know... I've seen Stratzenblitz75 make craft LIKE this. But even he has to compromise by having them have extra Booster and fuel packs. He got an entire Heli-carrier (yes - like the Avengers SHIELD Helicarrier) to Laythe and had it hovering indefinitely in the skies of Laythe. But he had to have an almost ridonkulously huge set of rube goldberg-esque fuel tankage and extra engines to make it work. And that's NOT what you're after. Maybe more instructive would be the GIANT Submarine he lifted to Laythe under it's own power with no extra tankage. But even THERE it required a stop at Minmus for a long extraction and refuel op.
Also - have you considered the B9 XL part set? This is a subset of the classic B9 Aerospace parts that features GIGANTIC single parts that might help you cut down on the part count while still allowing you to build something HUGE like what you are going for. It's a part set almost purpose made for making things like Macross or Battlestar Galactica scale ships. I've rarely seen anybody REALLY GO FOR IT and try to make something practical with that part set. But if anyone MIGHT make it work, it might be you!
I know Vaos prefers strictly 100% stock, and even uninstalled two visual mods to maintain this. But, for the sake of mental health, using XL parts to make an XL vessel makes sense to me. This vessel isn't being entered in any competition, and sharing the craft file would only require installing a single mod. Good idea Logan!
8:20 What the fudge?! No, don't come to my channel! The disappointments! Spare yourself the disappointments! I cannot live with these great expectations!
for the doors you could use docking ports. make it so that they dock when the door closes and undock when you want to open it. that is how i usually keep moving parts solid when i want to. also maybe a rocket trajectory would be better for this ship? (basically straight up) using a more shallow angle is usually only good for ships that use lift and/or airbreathing engines and both are not the case here. i think put a few more engines at the front to flip the nose up and then activate main engines. lastly using propellers to get off the ground might be a good idea?
I really hope KSP2 will eventually allow to make ships of sizes like this without the game turning into a powerpoint presentation or glitching out like crazy.
@@alexc9434 I was very afraid KSP2 could turn out to be a pump-and-dump, I wish I hadn't been right... well. Who knows, maybe a few fans will keep the game alive (Neocron is still around after all as well)... or someone actually picks up the rights and finishes the game.
Your design is still doable, even moreso, the original one without the VTOL. You're basically trying to do a horizontal launch, but you need to think of it more as a space shuttle, and you need a large amount of rockets and boosters for this to work. You can always jettison them later. A good rule to remember is that you need a solid thrust to weight ration, and 2 to 1, 2 pounds of thrust for every 1 pound of weight. Start there, and work up to a 3,4, or 5 to 1 ratio if need be. What makes your ship look ugly now can always be jettisioned later. You can still do this!
Gotta love when you find a brand new interesting video and then slightly glance down at a comment that reveals a lot about the end result of the video that you just started watching.
I already tried to make something similar a little smaller, it seemed pretty impossible to get it out of the atmosphere, so I tied two huge rockets on the sides to send it to space and it turned into an incredible spaceship.
It looks sooooo awesomeeee, it reminds me of the two rangers from interstellar, this could be a lighter one (for landings in duna, lathye or other moons) and another bulkier version could be designed for kerbin and similar. Of course, in that case this one would need another lanch system to help it get to orbit... interestinggggggg
Are you sure using an SSTO trajectory is ideal for Vector engines? You could pernaps try more of a rocket-like trajectory (although there would be a lot of drag). Putting the engines on swivels could help with that if you transition mid flight, but then you wouldn't be able to have the awesome recessed bays for them. Really cool craft and I hope you manage to get it to orbit!
I used to build a lot of these kinds of craft back in the day, I usually used the biggest air breathing engine (Forgot the name) for the Vtol since I usually only took of and landed on kerbin.
Hey @VAOS, An idea for the doors, use a docking port on the roof of the vehicle where the door closes and the on the door. It and holds it in place. only down side is when you try to ground load it can get in the way. would love to see this craft get to space!
Hey VAOS, I have a question/suggestion. If building it in segments and attaching all the segments together didn't work, and the noodle type way took a whole bumch of struts and autostruts but was better, what happens if you do spaghetti starting from the middle and expand in both directions?
@@vaos3712 What if you combine rockets and airbreathing engines? So it augments rapiers with rockets until it gets up to enough speed that they do have enough thrust, wouldn't be as efficient as just using the airbreathing engines but might still get you some gains
If you want usability and aesthetics, get some fusion engines from a mod my man 😉. Unless you want to keep it stock for the challenge, I guess that's half the fun.
This guy. Not only does he do great videos, he promotes others. Very noble, sir.

It’s great to see you buddy! Hope your piloting adventures are going well. Maybe build it in ksp and talk about it? Can’t wait! 😁
VTOL looks amazing, I've never been able to build a big ship like this

The orca is a great name
This definitely feels like a good ship too bad it doesn’t have enough fuel as of yet.

You could call it Alba Cetus/Albus Cete, latin for "White Whale", colloquially known as Moby Dick by the kerbonauts and engineers.
Also, could make it a "Leviathan Class" ship to maintain the sea monster theme.
This is interesting for sure. Like a Roll-On-Roll-Off for space. Perhaps in needs . . .

Helicarrirer vibes too, I can imagine a similar design, but with rotating engines so as to cut the engine requirements in half
