I stitched Hector too, it was my new year new start this year. I started him on New Years Eve and I got him finished January 28th. I thought I was pretty fast, but according to my stitching software MarkupXP it took me 47h18m 😳😳😳. Almost double the time the magazine said it would take. I think they just make up times what they think it should take to finish, but it is not based in reality. You must be stitching like crazy to get even close to that time. So don’t feel bad about being “slow” cause you are not.
Always enjoy and appreciate your videos. I'm the same age as you and going through similar situations with parents. Stitching is definitely my way to calm my mind. Best wishes from down south in England.

When I saw him in the magazine I was so tempted to start him but I was intimidated because he looks like a lot of stitching (I don't know how they come up with the estimates because that would take me way more than 25 hours). Please don't feel pressure to keep a schedule or get back with everyone quickly. You absolutely should focus on your family and yourself right now. I hope that the occupational health will be able to be a help to you and your mother.

The only thought I have to offer is that music and particularly singing are often helpful for those experiencing dementia as rhythms and song lyrics are often quite rooted in memory when other things are lost. I’ve been quite Bad this year about market - loved absolutely everything I saw….My Mother passed away at 82 with dementia/Alzheimer’s- it’s hard, there just is no other word to describe it….It’s a horrible disease that just consumes them and the family if your’e not careful…..my heart goes out to you but especially to your Mother - sounds like she is a pretty special lady and a very strong one at that…. I have two new market starts....In My Father's House by Annie Beez and American Welcome by Plum Street. I like all the pears Annie has put out but I have yet to stitch any. I think the finishing intimidates me.:)
You made me chuckle with your comment about the "estimated" stitching hours needed for your Highland Cow piece. It's not you! I'm not the fastest stitcher in the world either, but I'd say I'm probably in the average range; I decided to stitch one of the little freebie cards that came with the magazine for my niece. I looked at how long it would take and figured out when I'd HAVE to get started on it for it to get finished on time and I needed a good 50% if not more time than they said. Their model stitcher must have needles of fire!! Big hug about your dad. Went thru something similar with my mom and I know how heartbreaking and plain exhausting it is. xxx
You are not wrong about the "time needed to stitch" numbers in the magazine!! I have never managed to come even close to their suggestions. I just took about five hours to stitch a freebie they said would be a two-hour project! :D I'm sorry about your dad, Amanda. I know how difficult it is for him as well as for you and your mom. You and your mom must take care of yourselves or the journey will be even more difficult. Enjoy the retreat! Oh, yeah, and your stitching and your haul are fabulous. Amanda, my heart goes out to you and your Mom. I know these days are difficult. My Mom went through a similar patch with my Dad where he fell and she couldn’t get him up by herself. If my brother was available, he would go over and help her but a few times she had to call emergency services to come help her. Unfortunately that ultimately led to him being placed in a senior care home for his own safety. I know it’s difficult. I don’t have any advice except to reach out for help when you need it. Don’t try to go it by yourselves. Congratulations on your finish! I love that Highland cow - he’s so cute! Don’t apologize for your haul! We love it! We’ll see you when you’re able to come back. In the meantime I’ll be praying for your family. ❤
It was so good to see you today and what you've been working on. Your Christmas sampler looks fantastic! I also love the colors you're using on your Bluebird Sampler! I think those 3 blue bird stitches will look so nice displayed together. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad's decline. It is unbelievable the amount of work the caretaker has to take on. He is blessed to have two loved ones so devoted to his care. You and your mom are doing a wonderful job with him in such an impossible situation. I feel for all of you. And 60 years of marriage...that's incredible! I loved seeing all of your haul! You had such a knowing little smile on your face whenever you mentioned the haul you had☺️. Amanda, I would love to give you the title of slowest stitcher but we may just have to arm wrestle for it. Lordy be I am slow. Same thing in the kitchen. You know those recipes that say for example 25 minutes of prep? Well forget it. It will take me at least double the time. We've been getting a lot of cruddy weather here in Quebec also so when the sun does shine it's a huge boost to the spirit. In your background you have your Legendary Girls stitch and I am presently stitching it for my dear grand-daughter in England. It's such a fun easy stitch and I'm doing it on the new Rose Vintage 32 ct Lugana. I am so sorry that family times have been so rough for all of you. May I just say your parents are very lucky to have you there dear Amanda. I wish you strength, courage and the ability to appreciate life in spite of the difficult times. xoxoxoxo

I’m so sorry about your dad. You are not alone, my husband had Alzheimer’s and it’s a hard road. Just be in the moment with him and don’t disagree. You will get through this. My heart goes out to you and your mom.

So enjoyed seeing all of your lovely projects and your haul. Please don’t ever feel you need to apologize, period. You’re going through a lot right now. I’ve been there, and it’s not easy. Try and find things like stitching that bring you joy, and can take your mind off your troubles. Please don’t be hard on yourself either. Everyone does the very best they can under these circumstances. I had to take things day by day, sometimes even hour by hour. I simply couldn’t do anymore. So sorry Amanda...you and your Mom are such good care givers and I know these times are very distressing. I know in difficult times I look to prayer and my stitching to help me get through those days. Prayers for your whole family. Oh I loved the little bunny and the squirrel that Stacy Nash put out at Market. That is not usually my style but I could not resist those. I have two new market starts....In My Father's House by Annie Beez and American Welcome by Plum Street. I like all the pears Annie has put out but I have yet to stitch any. I think the finishing intimidates me.:)

You made me chuckle with your comment about the "estimated" stitching hours needed for your Highland Cow piece. It's not you! I'm not the fastest stitcher in the world either, but I'd say I'm probably in the average range; I decided to stitch one of the little freebie cards that came with the magazine for my niece. I looked at how long it would take and figured out when I'd HAVE to get started on it for it to get finished on time and I needed a good 50% if not more time than they said. Their model stitcher must have needles of fire!! Big hug about your dad. Went thru something similar with my mom and I know how heartbreaking and plain exhausting it is. xxx

You are not wrong about the "time needed to stitch" numbers in the magazine!! I have never managed to come even close to their suggestions. I just took about five hours to stitch a freebie they said would be a two-hour project! :D I'm sorry about your dad, Amanda. I know how difficult it is for him as well as for you and your mom. You and your mom must take care of yourselves or the journey will be even more difficult. Enjoy the retreat! Oh, yeah, and your stitching and your haul are fabulous. I have Hester's Delivery; I need to get it out and start it now that I've seen yours!!

Amanda, my heart goes out to you and your Mom. I know these days are difficult. My Mom went through a similar patch with my Dad where he fell and she couldn’t get him up by herself. If my brother was available, he would go over and help her but a few times she had to call emergency services to come help her. Unfortunately that ultimately led to him being placed in a senior care home for his own safety. I know it’s difficult. I don’t have any advice except to reach out for help when you need it. Don’t try to go it by yourselves.

It was so good to see you today and what you've been working on. Your Christmas sampler looks fantastic! I also love the colors you're using on your Bluebird Sampler! I think those 3 blue bird stitches will look so nice displayed together. I'm so sorry to hear about your dad's decline. It is unbelievable the amount of work the caretaker has to take on. He is blessed to have two loved ones so devoted to his care. You and your mom are doing a wonderful job with him in such an impossible situation. I feel for all of you. And 60 years of marriage...that's incredible! I loved seeing all of your haul! You had such a knowing little smile on your face whenever you mentioned the haul you had☺️. My favorite kind of haul to see is patterns, and I loved seeing all the ones you got! Enjoy them!!! Hope you have a relaxing time on your retreat! Be well!

Amanda, I would love to give you the title of slowest stitcher but we may just have to arm wrestle for it. Lordy be I am slow. Same thing in the kitchen. You know those recipes that say for example 25 minutes of prep? Well forget it. It will take me at least double the time. We've been getting a lot of cruddy weather here in Quebec also so when the sun does shine it's a huge boost to the spirit. In your background you have your Legendary Girls stitch and I am presently stitching it for my dear grand-daughter in England. It's such a fun easy stitch and I'm doing it on the new Rose Vintage 32 ct Lugana. I am so sorry that family times have been so rough for all of you. May I just say your parents are very lucky to have you there dear Amanda. I wish you strength, courage and the ability to appreciate life in spite of the difficult times. xoxoxoxo

Sorry to hear about the struggles with your Dad. If you haven't already, maybe hang really large recent photos of yours and your mum's smiling faces opposite his bed. It'll be the first thing he sees when waking, it might help him not be frightened so much.
