I also don’t see Vegas and Minnesota as playoff locks, however they have very good chances at making it. I can see them potentially having to settle for the wild card.
They might be able to push Dallas and Vegas, but I agree they won't be able to overcome Nashville or Vancouver most likely. Minnesota I have no problem as a playoff lock, but that's undeniably their ceiling
I would put the Oilers as Stanley Cup contenders. They have a great Offense with Mcdavid, Draisaitl, Kane, Nugent-Hopkins and Hyman. They added some depth to their defense in signing Ryan Murray. Their goaltending got a major upgrade in signing a great goalie in Jack Campbell. I would also put the flames as Stanley Cup contenders. They have a great offense, great defense and an excellent goalie.
If You think the ducks are gonna be bottom 5 in the league, you are most definitely on drugs. As a devils fan with no bias I can bet my money they will be fighting for a wildcard or playoff spot with the Canucks or Kings

If you put Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings in the Wild Card hunt then New Jersey Devils should be in there as well, look at the new editions New Jersey's ,it is almost similar edition as the Ottawa Senators
Great job! Just a couple of observations; I noticed you have no team from the Metro Division in the Bedard category, but someone will finish 8th, likely Flyers or NJ from the "Competitive" category. Also, there is no other team in the "Stanley Cup contender" category from the Western Conference other than Colorado, but they have to play someone in the Western Final so, at least put Calgary or Edmonton (or both) in that category which would put one of them into the Stanley Cup Final if one of them were to upset Colorado.
As a Habs fan, this team is definitely in the Michkov sweepstakes lol. Team is really weak on paper and they're most likely gonna be trading Dvorak and if any team wants Anderson and Hoffman, hopefully them too. Price injury and trading away Petry will make life very hard for Allen/Montembeault lmao
Nashville should be a playoff lock. Saros a Vezina candidate and Josi a Norris candidate. Forsberg in his prime and Duchene finally settled. Balanced roster with Ekholm, Granlund, Johansen, McDonough and Niederreiter, plus good young talent like Tomasino, Jeannot, Trenin, Glass, and Carrier. I wouldn't be surprised if they finished second in the Central.
Hot take: the California road trip will once again be the hardest road-trip for teams. On average teams will leave California with 1 win (most likely against the sharks)
Agreed… You guys have a dumpster Fire to deal with!! I say this as a Former Flyers fan who’s City finally got a Team 20 years ago… in the Blue Jackets!! Its sad to see whats become of my once beloved Flyers….
I think the next time you make a tier list like this one, you should account for playoff spots. It would make it a lot harder but boy will the CPM on that video go up.
Three contenders from the east and only one from the west. If Edmonton didn't have half their core, including Smith, injured, they might have beaten Colorado. You should have the same number from each conference in each category.
I agree with your whole list! Except for Krakens I feel they will be better I’m a huge Shane wright fan and with beniers I feel they will impact the nhl right away! Or I hope so at least I’m a flames fan btw but I like Seattles young stars they drafted 1st round past 2 years hope they have great careers
Lol at Kaapo Kakko improving. He basically has no where to go but up. If he doesn't massively improve in the next year or two, I feel like he can safely be considered a bust.
Pretty good overall. Vegas: NO GOALIE! And I'm pretty sure they need to clear room. Wildcard at best. NYR: way overachieved riding a hot goalie last year. Even still, they 100% would've lost to Pens if Crosby didn't get injured. Playoff lock for them. Winnipeg: might be on the way down. Defence has been shit since they lost 4/6 staring D a couple years ago. Their top fwds are some of the worst defensively in the league, now getting exposed. Even a good goalie can't save them. Competitive.
You put a solid fourteen teams as being guaranteed playoff teams. That's kind of ridiculous.... Minnesota, LA, Vegas, and Washington are far from locks.
While I mostly agree with this, there are too many playoff lock teams. 14 spots already taken. Vegas and LA are definitely not locks this year. I could easily see one of them missing (Vegas). I think LA over achieved a bit last year but they did improve and their younger players will be a year older. The canucks are the ones who will probably surprise people. If u wanna call it that.
Love the breakdown and all, but you put down 13 guaranteed playoff teams so at least ONE of them should move down to Wildcard hunt. Which do you think it would be? (you do have 7 Western Conference teams in the “top 12”)
Oilers fan here Flames are definitely a playoff lock. I don't think they are as good as last year though. Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Huberdeau and Kadri all had career years and while I'd bet on them having good seasons I don't think they reach last year's totals.

Calgary outplayed them 4 of those 5 games but they outplayed Markstroms low glove side . Feel like playoff lock is accurate .
@@scottdriscoll2333 I think oilers completely destroyed the flames. Ya markstrom played bad, but maybe if he plays good, they lose in 6 instead, but McDavid was unstoppable. Draisaitl had 17 points in those 5 games
@@scottdriscoll2333 no. Oilers dominated those last 4 games against Flames, Flames only had game 1 under locks and they choked a 6-1 lead in that too
I don’t think Winnipeg is going to be in the wild card hunt. They’ll still be competitive, but I don’t think they can really push Dallas, Nashville, Vancouver, and Vegas.
Islanders - Competitive
Underrated channel
I would put the Oilers as Stanley Cup contenders. They have a great Offense with Mcdavid, Draisaitl, Kane, Nugent-Hopkins and Hyman. They added some depth to their defense in signing Ryan Murray. Their goaltending got a major upgrade in signing a great goalie in Jack Campbell. I would also put the flames as Stanley Cup contenders. They have a great offense, great defense and an excellent goalie.
Flyers, Ducks, and Kraken are both 100% gonna be in on the Bedard sweepstakes.
If You think the ducks are gonna be bottom 5 in the league, you are most definitely on drugs. As a devils fan with no bias I can bet my money they will be fighting for a wildcard or playoff spot with the Canucks or Kings
@@patrykkruczala8872 Dude they were horrid after the trade deadline last year. That's what they will look like for the entirety this year
@@thekillers1stfan yeah they traded out a lot of players and this off-season replaced them with better players.
@@patrykkruczala8872 They raplaced Lindholm with Klingberg but who else? Not to mention they just have 0 leadership with Getzlaf out
@@thekillers1stfan Ryan strome at center they acquired. Acting like the Ducks are gonna be as bad as montreal or Philly.
You have 14 teams as playoff locks or Cup contention, that means 2 of them will be in the WC and only 2 of the Wildcard hunt teams get in.
You’re good at math!! You get a cookie!!
I like how he added at the end "I know this list is gonna piss some people off. Lmao. I'd say this list is probably spot on though
Also as a Ranger fan i appreciate the love but I honestly would say the Rangers should be in the WIld card hunt. They had 33 come from behind wins last year. On top of that the division got better. I honestly think they might miss the playoffs but i hope they win the cup.
I understand where you're coming from but the Rangers were at the top of the Metro and one of the best teams in the leage for the entire season last year. I think you're being a bit too humble with this statment. They're better than what your saying
@@stevenbrodeur3023 Take it from an Isles fan, the Rangers will definitely finish to 3 in the Metro. I have them as cup contenders. I’ve been thinking the Isles will suck this year, but not many people agree. We tend to take a less positive view of our own teams but really your team is much better than that
@@arensaraydarian4648 I think its Carolina and the Ranger finishing 1 and 2 and then its wide open for those last 2 spots between the Caps, Pens, Isles and Jackets!!! Caps and Pens are starting off with major injury issues so if Columbus and the Isles start off hot I think their in!!! Bye Bye Consecutive Playoff records for both the Pens and Caps!!! If only any of our teams were in the west Lol
Ps I’m a Columbus Fan!!!
@@arensaraydarian4648 the division is so tough and I agree the isles will fall. Getting too old. I also think Tampa and caps will fall out of the playoff race. I know I know Tampa last 3 years Stanley cup. But I think they are 1-2 injuries from flopping even with vasy.
If you put Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings in the Wild Card hunt then New Jersey Devils should be in there as well, look at the new editions New Jersey's ,it is almost similar edition as the Ottawa Senators
I agree Devils are a WC hunt team but don't you think Canes, Rangers, Pens, Isles maybe, and Caps are all better so its hard until they prove us wrong
Winnipeg in competitive, Philly in Bedard and NY Rangers in playoff lock.
Im not so sure thats what he ment the ranking to work. You dont become a Stanley Cup contender just because only one in your Conference is.
@@bjornalm9950 I know, I was just making a harmless observation, no big deal. Thanks.
Can you please go back to doing quizzes on the channel those were always so fun to watch!
Love the videos, although the music can get quite repetitive, especially when it's the same one in every vid. Keep up the good work!
Could u do this with the top players in the league
Florida road trip would be tougher. But Alberta is also going to be a tough place to travel to for visiting teams.
Ya that’s a pretty hot take. San Jose is trash. The ducks are average at best. The kings are pretty good
Calling Gaudreau a big fish is ironic
Honestly a good tier list, there’s no rankings I disagree with so great job 👏🏻 love the vids
Great stuff! I hope you’re right about Columbus! Looking forward to see how Johnny Hockey changes the culture here.
Always a good day when he posts
Honestly as a Vegas fan I don't expect going to the playoffs, Logan Thompson is too raw to be a #1 option.
As a Flyers fan, we should be below the Bedard tier
Agreed… You guys have a dumpster Fire to deal with!! I say this as a Former Flyers fan who’s City finally got a Team 20 years ago… in the Blue Jackets!! Its sad to see whats become of my once beloved Flyers….
What do you think about Sabers bringing back goat head logo? Nice huh🙃
great stuff, spot on with that entire list.
I'll be shocked if Minnesota makes the playoffs
Time to be shocked, they’re tied for division lead.
Vegas is the one I differ with you. Bunch of spoiled brats with huge holes desperately grasping for glory instead of the rebuild they need.
Love were you put the canes
I think the next time you make a tier list like this one, you should account for playoff spots. It would make it a lot harder but boy will the CPM on that video go up.
Then they would be playoff locks if you only have 16. No need for in the hunt🤷🏻♂️
@@jamiepike6909 That's the point
Are the wild really a lock. Your dependent on Zuccarello and Hartman having career years again
I mean, as long as they're playing with Kaprizov...
I'm with you 100% actually. Blues fan, and I wish we had a better d core that would put us in that SCC level but alas we do not
The oilers have to be cup contenders just made it to the WCF upgraded team and our eventual matchup (the avs) have gotten worse
Or I hope so at least
I’m a flames fan btw but I like Seattles young stars they drafted 1st round past 2 years hope they have great careers
This takes me back to when I first subscribed to your channel, always putting in incredible work to bring us awesome videos, thanks OhNyquist 🙌🏻
how can Flyers be better when they are less Giroux and more Deslauriers?
I know right… I think its them Chicago and Arizona battling for the worst record!!!
Lol at Kaapo Kakko improving. He basically has no where to go but up. If he doesn't massively improve in the next year or two, I feel like he can safely be considered a bust.
OHNYQUIST! good morning, one day closer to hockey season. Keep up with the great content sir.
I agree….
Jets and Caps are overrated i think just watch
Love the breakdown and all, but you put down 13 guaranteed playoff teams so at least ONE of them should move down to Wildcard hunt. Which do you think it would be? (you do have 7 Western Conference teams in the “top 12”)
It's Easily Vegas that moves down
@@joshuagrimes4799 I’d agree, unless the new Calgary chemistry is atrocious similar to what happened to Montreal this past year
@@joshuagrimes4799 Vegas is wildcard hunt at best, having them as a playoff lock is a joke
i was genuinely shocked that u didnt put my flyers in bedard sweepstakes. at least someone believes we might not be bottom 5🥲
Don’t worry, flyers will definitely be in the hunt for bedard
This would have been a lot more literate if you would have broken them into conferences first... just a suggestion for next year.
Oilers fan here
Flames are definitely a playoff lock. I don't think they are as good as last year though. Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Huberdeau and Kadri all had career years and while I'd bet on them having good seasons I don't think they reach last year's totals.
As a flames fan I do think they we better, but oilers have that first seed on lock.
