I think the theme music is trying to drive you insane. I was forced to stop the video because it was so unbearable. The human voice does not need background music - EVER.
You should never heat up alcohol, this video shows the best way to dye polyester and have positive results. No RIT is not disperse dye but iDye Poly is and you can get those at places like Joann's and Michael's.
Hi Judy, I actually went with coffee staining the Friday before my Sunday wedding lol. Talk about a risk taker eh?! Worked out AMAZING! I must mention that there is an inner liner and I have a feeling that the outside was cotton, inside was polyester and both contained spandex for some give. I did a test run with a white shirt made of the same combo before and it worked perfectly, so I took my chances with my dress. I didn't wash it after, just rinsed, as I adored the colour :)
I feel like I'm watching one of those science experiment tutorial videos that were played in middle school Edit: poor guy worked so hard on this video but all the comments are just making fun of the music 🤣🤣🤣
@@waysandhow all joking aside this video was very helpful. I'm dying a polyester figure skating dress for my friend and those dresses are expensive so I cant afford to mess it up (litterally) :p. Thank you!! :)
All this makes you think this is definitely a witches brew. Kettles, wooded spoons, outdoor fire pit. Strange! This process makes me want to go online and reorder my sheers!
in need of advice! i have a satin top, with metal work embroidery, as well as foil work 😕 but the dye keeps rubbing off on anything i touch! how can i set the dye?
It will go over another color. Now with that being said, you cannot cover a dark color with a lighter color and other common sense things like that. Also, the stove top method works leaps and bounds better than the washing machine method. You may need to double the amount of dye you use if you want a super dark color.
I am curious as to what brand was used. I looked up disperse dye at amazon and it brought up Jacquard. Is that a good disperse dye. It says it works on natural fabric too. I just want to dye synthetics.
Just now I dyed polyester with orange and dark green colour in a diamond shape design. The colour powders were dark but my fabric got light colour. Then i came to watch this video. Is it because the heat was less or I mixed (1ltr) more water or because I dipped my fabric in plain water before and after dying?
Certain things are missing here.....auxiliaries that help the dye break down, be attracted to the fabric n get locked inside the fibre of the fabric.... Water ph.... Salt for %shade
Aren't you supposed to rinse the dye off at the end with cold water, not warm water? I've been tie dying cotton for a long time and was always told by others to use cold water otherwise the heat of the water will make colour wash out a lot more.
If you go straight to cold water after near boiling water, it is likely to set any crinkles in the polyester. This is why you should start with warm water and move to cooler room temperature water.
I have a some white polyester garments that I need to tiny a very faint/pale blue for a costume (the corpse bride). What would be the best way to do this? If I used a royal blue shade of dye will that tint the fabric the colour I want? I think that might work better than trying to use a pale blue dye
I have a royal blue polyester dress with sheer top and 100% polyester lining which are two textures just afraid if I dye it if both will take...please advise
I want to sponge paint the dye onto my 100% polyester dress. Is this possible? How much water do I use to one packet of iDye Poly? I want to make sure the color is strong and that I don't burn my hand. The sponge will be in my hand, and I will be wearing rubber gloves. I am using a sponge, as I am drawing a design (butterfly) onto the fabric with the iDye Poly colors orange, red, yellow, and black. I plan to use all 4 colors on one dress when drawing the butterfly. Advice?
I really wish you got an answer to this question! I am trying to figure out the same thing. I want to dye a white dress for my wedding with tea bags, but it's 60% cotton, 35% polyester, and 5% spandex. I can't seem to find an answer that is close. I am so worried about the exact same thing, what if some areas dye and others don't :(
Dying is the process of turning a light object to dark. If you want to turn dark to light it's called 'bleaching'. Do you must take the color to white, then dye it red. Sorry I'm 5 years late XD
They won’t. I’ve cLled every one I could find in all price ranges from California to Florida. It’s too much of a liability if you consider your garment “ruined” by not being the color You thought it would be

Not sure if I should post here since not lots of people are answering questions, but....will dyeing a 100% polyester military backpack via the stove top method (cooking at high temperature for at least 30 minutes) weaken the strength of the bag? I read that polyester is plastic and could melt, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume it could weaken. Not sure why the Q/A board on RIT dyemore has not only not answered this question but deleted both of my messages about this?!
Is this theme music trying to tell me that dying polyester is paranormal?
it's very eerie-sounding
by the way, this was a great help. my project turned out awesome

Totally got that vibe listen to the music and him explaining everything XD

I feel like I just watched an X-Files episode.
this music makes it sound like if u make one mistake,u will be doomed...
It becomes monoester...
I'm dyeing polyester rn and I'm telling you if you make one mistake the fabric might be doomed maybe not you though 😭

I couldn't sleep last night cause of this video. It was helpful though... scary, but helpful.
Okay, I'm glad the video helped.
That background music took me on a one way ticket to Hell. Strangely addictive though, I must say. Keep up the good work, kind sir.

That x files comment tho.. LOL
how well would this work on 100% polyester?
Got excited when I saw the title.
Quickly started to I feel like I watching some classified information...
What do you mean?
@@waysandhow Just the music is all I’m playing. Very informative video thanks for sharing.
this background noise is terrible.
Will this work on 90% Polyester and 10% spandex? :/ ??
I'm not sure how one could do all this outdoors, unless it's over a campfire??
And that music..... what's up with that, lol!
I drag a cable all across the yard and dye mine on a portable electrical stove outside.
Don’t dump dye water in the environment please
Jacquard make a great range of dyes for both synthetic and natural fabrics.
Hi Cyclon! Can you tell me how I can dye some shirts compossed by 60%cotton 50%polyester, I have my Brand and I need to Sell my work, please! 🙏
All this makes you think this is definitely a witches brew. Kettles, wooded spoons, outdoor fire pit. Strange! This process makes me want to go online and reorder my sheers!
Thanks! Can the dye cover another colour, or will it mix with the main colour?
I have been told that alcohol would work much better than water :x Is this true?
Also! Is rit considered as a disperse dye?
Thanks :)
important question does it matter what color the fabric was before the dyeing
in need of advice! i have a satin top, with metal work embroidery, as well as foil work 😕 but the dye keeps rubbing off on anything i touch! how can i set the dye?
Will the plastic on a backpack's zipper melt if I do this?
will the fabric shrink from this process?
yes
The background music makes this sound like I’m making a bomb not dying fabric
Are you?
@@waysandhow 😈😈 yes
where can one purchase this dye?
Hi, can I follow the same procedure for nylon? Cheers.

Does this wrks on all the stretchable fabrics
I don't know, you are going to have to test them to see.
helpful info -- background music was really distracting though...
After watching this video, I quit dyeing my poly-cotton fabric😂
Thanks for watching.
Okay thanks :) well hopefully it will work out!
What if I do this on a backpack will the same results come out?
Also, will it tint metal?
I have a grill but I don't know if it's good to try and boil water over a small BBQ lol and how can you rinse with warm water if your outside?
I am curious as to what brand was used. I looked up disperse dye at amazon and it brought up Jacquard. Is that a good disperse dye. It says it works on natural fabric too. I just want to dye synthetics.

How do you know what kind of metal your pot is

I see a lot of comments about the music. I'll just watch it without sound. The words are on the screen for those who can read.
Thank you for your comment and for watching.
WHAT IF WHAT YOURE DYING IS 65% cotton and 35% Polyester?!?! will the cotton areas dye more than the polyester areas? or will it still dye evenly?!

if i'm using liquid, not powder, does the dissolving into a cup and soaking up the excess or whatever was going on there still apply?
I should've watched this before dying my polyester socks .3.
i wish i got an answer as well! i know this is late reply but im sure you will look beautiful on your wedding day :)

iDye Poly needs to be done in a constant boiling pot in order to work. I've tried really hot water, gloves, a brush and failed miserably. :(

What if you want a light dye colour not a dark dye colour
WaysAndHow couldn’t I use the washing machine put the dye in if it’s too dark wash it again to get some of the dye out
Now I'm afraid to dye! 😅
Why is that?
Used a 10 gallon pot with 5 bottles and 5 shirts followed directions and I did it for 1 1/2 hours still didn't work
Sorry to hear that.
I just want to dye my doll thread.

IMMEDIATE QUESTION!!
do i have to let the dye soak? or the fabric? or do i just stir it for the 30 minutes and then rinse it?
hmm... i wonder how well this would work to do just the letters on a jersey. its a black jersey luckily, not sure if the letters are polyester
Yea especially if you have to soak it, not gonna go well
