I just saw live yesterday Louis Langrée conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic in.Saint Saens Symphony No 3 Otgan at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. It was excellent! I’d like to hear live the same forces in this César Franck Symphony in D.

The intensity of this magnificent, gripping performance reminds me of Bernstein's with Le Orchestra National de France under DG.
Thank you for sharing this video.

What an incredible performance of this oft recorded symphony. Such emotive passion and sensuality. Franck - I’m always coming back to his works - he had his own kind of genius. Also, I love the joy in Mr. Langree’s face as he’s conducting(example, the smile he gave to the harpist before they began the second movement). His joy gives me joy.

Marvelous! This performance has shown me the light regarding this symphony. I’d been stand-offish about the symphony before, but this account has a transparency that Franck benefits from. I especially like a conductor with no score: it shows competence and confidence.

Le modernisme musical commence avec le symboliste César Franck et c'est profonde et marveilleux!

What a pity though, the audio is monophonic... 🙁

Does anybody actually know why it is that so many conductors leave away the upbeat b flat in the climactic return of the second movement's theme in the finale? It's definitely there in the Monteux recording. It makes little sense to not have it accented, or else nobody will understand that this theme actually begins with the opening motif of the first movement. Is there some score edition reason behind this?

Merveilleuse oeuvre qui peut rester a coté de Brahms et Bruckner ( Franck a un regard sur le futur il est moins classique-romantique que Brahms). Il faudrait executer cette magnifique symphonie plus souvent. Orchestre et Langrée super!

The sonics are terrible, but the performance is just great!

I'm glad to hear this because I was beginning to think it was my hearing loss.
