I remember every Saturday night at 9pm that my family watched the Love Boat. It was a staple in my household. Watching movie greats like Janet Gaynor, the First Lady of the Academy Awards, come out of retirement to make a guest appearance with Lew Ayers was the highlight of the show entire series. Many of these stars are gone now but they still live in my heart for their contributions to entertainment. These are memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life!
Gosh, just hearing the Love Boat theme is so exciting and exhilarating and just simply beautiful- Best TV show if you want to ask me- ♡♡♡ Look at all these Hollywood tv/movie stars! ♡♡♡
I used to watch this when it aired in NZ on a Saturday night when I was 9 years old ... hearing those disco wah wah guitars jangling away suddenly makes me feel very nostalgic and very old !
Dallas outsourced a lot of the cast back then! I spotted Cliff, Clayton, Lucy, Donna, cousin Jack, Pam's sister Katherine and Lucy's mother Valene! The Love Boat was truly a Who's Who of late 70s snd early 80s TV stars as well as some Hollywood golden age legends!
It was. Many many young actors and actress seemed to have their starts in this Show. Shows like knight rider, golden girls, chips, falcon crest, wonder woman, a curly Tom hanks....
Amazing list of stars... sadly about 90% are gone! The 70's and 80's when Hollywood was still full of talent and glamour... compared to now!😝 Fortunately. I've seen or met more than a dozen of those shown. Great memories!
Don't forget Lillian Gish, one of the first cinema superstars who began her career with her sister in 1912. She played in the famous "Birth of the Nation" of D. W. Griffith
Glad to see that the Duke brothers got to go on the Love Boat before Winthorp and Valentine bankrupted them in an ill-advised orange juice futures trade.
Anne Bexter... Joseph Cotten.... Don Ameche.... Dorothy Lamour.... Zsa Zsa Gabor.... Jane Powell.... Debbie Reynolds......Ralph Bellamy.... Lorenzo Lamas and his mother Arlene Dahl.... Tom Hanks young..... And the Great actress of silent cinema Lillian Gish......
Okay, you got me. I used to sit through Love Boat in order to get to the show I really liked - Fantasy Island - but I'd forgotten just how many great guest stars they had on the show. I also loved stuff like "Battle of the Network Stars."
I can't say I loved The Love Boat. I liked it OK; it was pretty trite. But I am OBSESSED with this parade of stars for each season. I can't stop watching.
There were also a lot of A listers. 32 Oscar winners appeared over the years. And there were some younger actors who got their early career starts on Love Boat, like Tom Hanks and Michael J. Fox.
So many familiar faces here. Paul Burke is one who was in a bit of everything at the time. He was in Dynasty and had other supporting roles in many series. Robert Vaughn, he was also in a lot of things, both films and TV series, during the 70s and 80s. Many names here make me wonder "whatever happened to him/her?" Some of them were so young at the time that they probably are still alive, but somehow faded away from publicity.
In 1915, Lillian Gish was in "Birth of a Nation." Sixty-six years later, she played Isaac's old high school teacher who's a passenger on the boat. And in the episode, Isaac tries to avoid her because she had high hopes for him and he's ashamed to admit he's a bartender.
@@sherryhannah498 I was just listing MASH cast members. No one else from Alice was a guest star in S4, but Beth Howland did four episodes (two parters in both S5 & S6) and Philip McKeon did one in S7.
Pat Morita for the win, Lynda Goodfriend, Erin Moran & Donny Most from Happy Days, Nobu McCarthy from Karate Kid II, & Demond Wilson from Sanford & Son
A great game to play while watching this is "Dead or Alive--or Who??. As the stars from past years click by, see if you can figure out in a split second who's dead or alive. At least the ones you know. The others get the Who?
Adam Sandler for the win, Darren McGavin from Billy Madison & Debbie Reynolds from The Wedding Singer, McGavin & Reynolds played a married couple in this season's TLB

i wonder if stars jumped at opportunity to be on this show similar to the more recent dancing stars show as it seems to boost their exposure and lead to other projects ?
Wow I am old enough to know all those people. Im very lucky to be born in 1971.
Me too. Good year and we're at a good age

Erin Gray...The shimmy then the hair flip...What a lady!
Yeah wow....hard to beat that...
100%
Memories of school boy crushes on Erin Grey and Maureen McCormick. Loved how the show gave the tv stars a chance to a change of pace.

The girls of the 70s and 80s were really beautiful.
I thought the same thing.
Watching the stars that I watch on tv growing up. Good time in the 70’s.
I always enjoyed seeing how well (or not) the guest stars handled those awkward looks into camera as themselves.
True either an actor was at the beginning of their career or the End of it , but I was entertained by it's light hearted humor
I like that part too , they focus on the camera eye , good observation !
They’re all beautiful in their own way! 🙂
Through that weird love circle portal
I watch this and try to imagine myself giving a look into the camera that I would not, possibly get arrested for ..

yes talent and glamour and no woke politics and lecturing and preaching
Wow , Olivia de Havilland was on The Love Boat, season 4. Gone with the Wind and The Love Boat is certainly an unusual pairing on a resume !
Don't forget Lillian Gish, one of the first cinema superstars who began her career with her sister in 1912. She played in the famous "Birth of the Nation" of D. W. Griffith
That is the best part of LB, older stars getting a payday.
Wow, Dana Wynter was in this! She was pretty famous in the 50s and 60s. I remember her in Sink The Bismarck. She was absolutely gorgeous.
Olivia de Havilland was in this line up too. She was Melanie in Gone with the Wind.
Glad to see that the Duke brothers got to go on the Love Boat before Winthorp and Valentine bankrupted them in an ill-advised orange juice futures trade.
"I told you we shouldn't have committed everything, you asshole!"

This makes me want to watch the show all over again.

Boss Hogg: These Dukes are gonna drive me crazy (about Bo and Luke)

What J.D. Hogg don't know, that one of the Dukes had already took a cruise, two times.
Good on ya for clarifying. As it turns out, there were Dukes on this cruise…Randolph and Mortimer.

Saturday night, dinner time. Great memories 40 years ago TV Mexico. Salutes
FYI: At 7:21 and 7:40 respectively, guest stars O.D. Warbux and Sonny Wilde are just Gavin MacLeod under very bad hairpieces.
Was that to get him another paycheck? Or did he just want to be other people too?
There are lots of actors here under bad hairpieces. I didn't know Gavin MacLeod's herpes was that bad though
I have to say...what a range of people !
Although I never saw a single episode of the Love Boat, it was fun spotting who I knew from 70's TV.
Boy what a great line up on great actors thank you not just this episode but on the rest
My pleasure.

A lot of female crushes here when I was young.
Love Boat kept many a C grade actors careers alive just that bit longer. Then no doubt they made an appearance on Fantasy Island as a guest
And also Hotel. All three were Aaron Spelling shows and followed a similar formula.

It's good to see the Bluths (Tambor and Walter) on The Love Boat.
3:00 David Hasselhoff, before Knight Rider.
Shelley Smith just died last week at the age of 70. She was in a lot of these and she was very pretty! RIP Shelley!

i can't believe Nellie Olsen is in the ship with Caroline and Mary Ingalls
The Duke (Mortimer and Randolph) escapes and take a cruise!
Nellie should have thrown them overboard!
Instead of a cabin they got a big wooden box.
Nellie Olsen was on a different cruise, making havoc for Jane Hathaway and Cpl. Duke Slater. Pvt. Lester Hummel was on board as well.
