“Voices of the Ancestors” is a new concert programme by the drum and bagpipe group Auļi in collaboration with musicians from various countries around the world. Auļi have travelled far and wide to meet singers representing ancient and unusual singing traditions and techniques. This time the group has focused on powerful men’s voices that characterise a specific region. Performances by well-known singers from various geographical regions merge with the Auļi’s powerful instrumental music based in Latvian traditional music, creating an impressive programme of world music.
“Orbina” was created in collaboration with Kai Somby, a Sami joiker from Norway.
Mongolian throat singer Batzorig Vaanchig, whose song “Hunnu Guren” we have already become acquainted with, will also be our guest in concert.
    • Hunnu Guren - Batzorig...
The names of our other two guest musicians will be announced soon.
“We’ve become acquainted with several representatives of ancient singing traditions and discovered how these voices meld with drums and bagpipes as well as with Latvian folk songs. We invite you to come along with us on this exciting and memorable journey!”

I never realized how close Sami yoiking and Native American chanting is. It would be fun to have Auļi collaborate with a Native American artist.
    Apsveicu Auļus! Laba sadarbība!

One pretty strong theory is that the cultures have the same origins and that Native Americans are a product of migration from Siberia :)

@@kroakakaka Sámi are asian? That's not the strongest theory at all. The Sámi have more in common with the Basque people from the Iberian peninsula, both representing the V mitochondrial haplogroup, and 90%~ of all Sámi are of the U and V haplogroup. A TINY 5% of the Sámi are haplogroup D and Z, both which exist in Asian populations AND european populations. Furthermore, the D haplogroup existant in Sámi populations is the D5 subgroup that's specifically particular to Europe, which makes that connection particularly ANCIENT.
As in, Yamnaya Culture ancient, before the indo-european split happened. Most likely more than 10k years ago.

our 'pagan' roots are the same. people unite during ice ages and then time and space separates them again. and this goes many ice ages ago... so the symbiosis seems effortless.

My maternal ancestors which made it to the USA were German Jew and East Indian royalty which mixed with native American. I'm THE STANDING ROCK & White Buffalo calf woman.
My direct hands are Christian and Muslim; both need held in the world.
